You're from Burma, aren't you? Was it nice there? Do you miss your family? (the snake at the zoo gestures to a sign that says "Bred in Captivity.") I see. That's me as well. I never knew my parents, either.
~ Harry Potter to a friendly snake.
Hera: We'll get you home now. Your parents must be worried sick.
Ezra: I don't have parents.
~ Ezra telling Hera that his parents might be dead or missing.

A recurring theme in fiction concerning heroes is the loss of their parents (typically both), typically at an early age, at least before their 18th birthday.

Some orphans get separated from their families and take an quest find them. Some orphans, however, never even had parents and are clones born in a laboratory (such as Clone Troopers), and occasionally, when the death of both of their parents is bad enough, they are sometimes brought in by kind or abusive guardians or raised by animals.

Luckily, orphans get adopted by a new couple as their parents. Additionally, adoptive parents would do anything they can to give the orphans a warm place to live, good food to eat, clothes to wear and give them love, care and support.
