Status Dependent upon Player Choice

Many video games are very non-linear and feature extensive moral and story–affecting choices for the player to make over the course of the game. The heroes in this category have multiple possible fates that are affected by the player's actions; for instance, they might be killed, spared, turned evil, disappeared, etc. As well as that, many heroes in this category are playable characters and, depending on the player's choices, they can either be an ideal hero, irredeemably evil or anywhere in between.
