Chainclaw is a minor character in the Transformers franchise. The original version of the character was based on a figure from the 1988 toyline.

History[]

Chainclaw first appeared in the Marvel UK story "(Double) Deal of the Century". He was acting as a courier for the Autobots from Cybertron, transporting their battle plans to Optimus Prime on Earth for inspection. Just prior to his meeting with Optimus Prime and the Race Car Patrol, he was ambushed by the mercenary Doubledealer, who, through a number of deceptions, managed to ransom him back to the Autobots while selling the battle plans to the Decepticons and leaving them at each other's throats. Chainclaw apparently remained with the Earth Autobots for a time afterwards, as he was sent with Getaway and Cloudburst to perform surveillance on the Decepticon base. When they encountered Starscream, they followed orders not to engage, but this only served to enrage Starscream who gave them both a beating.

Chainclaw's only Marvel US appearance was in Issue #67, as part of an alternate 2009 where Cybertron had been destroyed by Unicron, and the Decepticons had conquered North America. Chainclaw was part of a small group of surviving Autobots led by Prowl who were working with the human resistance and desperate for a victory to stop the European powers nuking the area to end the Decepticon threat. When they saw Cyclonus and Scourge in the woods near the Decepticon power station, an enraged Getaway charged them without orders. Realising this could give them the distraction they needed, Prowl ordered Chainclaw and Guzzle to assist him. Chainclaw was the last Autobot left standing of the free and managed to bring down Cyclonus, the only other combatant left. He came close to killing him but was himself killed by Galvatron first.
