Chao is a recurring character in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. He is Master Oogway's former student.
In the episode "Sight for Sore Eyes", Master Chao visits the Jade Palace with Junjie for an inspection to see if Shifu is the right fit to lead the palace. During the ceremonial sparring, Po secretly watches Chao, Junjie and Shifu. When Junjie uses the Golden Lotus Clap, Po becomes blind and ruins the performance with Furious Five.
Chao was disappointed to see that Po disobeyed Shifu, thus was under the impression that Shifu was not a competent master. Afterwards, Chao tells Shifu he is no longer the master of the Jade Palace and replaces him with Junjie.
A few weeks later, Chao comes back to The Jade Palace, he hears Junjie telling Po he helped him to trick Chao. Chao is angry to discover the Fox's true nature. Unfortunately for him, Junjie and his students attack Chao and Po to capture them and lock them in a cell of the palace. When Master Chao wakes up, he is imprisoned with Po and Shifu but Po uses the golden lotus clap to unchain them. He is impressed by Po's performance.
After Po and his friends have defeated Junjie and his leopard. Chao apologizes to Shifu for his mistake and gives him his job back. He tells Po, he learns to him that sometimes doing what is right is better than following tradition. He brings Junjie and his student to Chohr-Gom Prison
During "Kung Shoes" He comes to the jade palace to see Po performing the three needles test. Po does it with the power of Kung Fu Shoes, he is impressed. But later it is revealed, he comes to help shifu and Furious Five to teach Po that it is useless to use incredible Kung Fu techniques without training.
He unsuccessfully tries to help Po to remove Kung Fu Shoes who controls him and forces him to attack Shifu and Furious Five. When Po cuts Kung Fu Shoes, they are multiplying themselves to control Master Chao, Shifu and his students. Fortunately, Po removes the shoes from Chao's feet and destroys Kung Fu Shoes. Shifu thanks him for helping him, he tells him it was nice to see someone performing the three needles test even if it was because of Kung Fu Shoes.
In "Five is enough", Chao comes with his students for the Tournament of the Sun Pennant. They are competing with Shifu's students.
