Heroine Overview

Charlotte Magne, most commonly referred to as Charlie, is the main protagonist of the 2019 adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel created by Vivienne Medrano. She is the Hell-born princess of Hell and the founder of the Happy Hotel. Despite what most of Hell thinks, she believes that redemption is possible for any and all demons and hopes that it will help with the betterment of the kingdom.

She is voiced by Jill Harris, while her singing voice is provided by Elsie Lovelock, who also is set to voice Uzi in Murder Drones and voices Saiko Bichitaru in SMG4.

Charlie is a tall and slim demon girl with long pale blonde hair and red cheeks. Her eyes are black, and her sclera is light yellow. She has small fangs, usually the only outward sign of her demonic nature. She usually wears a black bow tie, a white shirt underneath a red tuxedo, and long black suspenders. In other times, she wears either a black tuxedo or wears just the white shirt.

When in her full demon-form, which she has been shown to assume while excited or angry, dark-reddish horns protrude from her head, her mouth becomes larger with pointed teeth, and her eyes sclera turn bright red. Other demons seem unnerved by this.

Charlie cares about her friends and her people. She is naive and theatrical, while brimming with passion. Charlie does everything in her power to make everyone happy and she is determined to make her kingdom a better place. However, she can be stubborn when something doesn't go her way. She has a cheerful and sweet personality, while being somewhat naive. In addition, she also has a taste for singing and Vaggie tries to convince her to stop singing.

Nothing is known about Charlie's past (until now), so far, the only information given is that she was born in hell, as the daughter of Lucifer, the King of Hell, and his wife and queen, Lilith. As such, Charlie is demonic royalty and Lucifer's first and probably only "heiress".

Hazbin Hotel

In the present of the story, Charlie is seen crying over the failure of her hotel, right after she sings the song "I'm always chasing rainbows", shortly after, is shown a flashback of the last few hours, showing Charlie dissatisfied with the way in which overpopulation in hell is avoided, so she decides to open the hotel so that the sinners have their souls "reaccepted" in heaven so that they don't suffer anymore, however, since it was not extremely successful, as she imagined, she asks for help from the anchor of the main channel of hell (but there was a failure in agreement, resulting in a fight), then, she asks for help to the most famous demons to make her hotel grow, in that, Alastor appears wanting to help Charlie, but was only there to have fun seeing the sinners trying to reconcile as good souls, but at another point in him he claims that charlie's hotel really is a failure, much to Charlie's disapproval. Charlie tries to cheer up the audience by singing a song to say that there is still a light inside each one, which ends up causing the demons to humiliate her by laughing, leaving her sad to the point of cry rivers, in the meantime, News 666's anchor announces that the princess's hotel is a failure, causing everyone to leave it, as she returns to the scene at the beginning, Charlie finishes watching, impressed and terrified by the power of alastor while crumbling Pentious's airship, Charlie then accepts the proposal to change the name of her hotel to Hazbin hotel, suggested by Alastor.

  • Charlie bears some similarities to that of Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well as Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and despite being a protagonist, she has a similar design to the Joker from Batman.
    • Ironically, although she still cusses occasionally despite trying to make a place that can change a sin.
    • Her romantic relationship with Vaggie is supposed to be the lesbian version of Jack Skellington and Sally relationship.
  • It was confirmed that Charlie is bisexual as Vivziepop tweeted a bisexual pride flag above her and her affections towards Vaggie.
    • Her ex-boyfriend was Seviathan Von Eldrich, brother of her rival Helsa Von Eldrich.
  • Charlie's appearance and personality may have been inspired by Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx as they are both female heroic monsters that have sharp fangs and long hair, as well as appearing to be much more cheerful and loving to their love interests.
  • According to Vizziepop, Charlie and her father both have fully functional demonic wings that are only visible when being used.
