Heroine Overview

Well, as most of you know, I was born here in Hell and growing up, I always tried to see the good in everyone around me. Hell is my home and you are my people. We just went through another Extermination. We lost so many souls, and it breaks my heart to see my people being slaughtered every year. No one is even given a chance! I can't stand idly by while the place I live is subjected to such violence! So, I've been thinking: Isn't there a more humane way to hinder overpopulation here in Hell? Perhaps we can create an alternative way to change souls through... redemption? Well, I think yes! So, that's what this project aims to achieve! Ladies and gentlemen, I'm opening the first of its kind, a hotel that rehabilitates sinners!
~ Charlie's announcement of the Hotel.
That's Princess of Hell to you, pig!

In the pilot, she was voiced by Jill Harris who also voices Noelle Silva in Black Clover, Suletta Mercury from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury and Philomela Sargant from The Ancient Magus' Bride in her normal voice, while her singing voice is provided by Elsie Lovelock, who also voices Uzi in Murder Drones, and Saiko Bichitaru and Meggy Spletzer in SMG4. Appearance[]

Charlie is a tall and slim-figured hell-born demoness who stands at around 6 feet tall or over, with white skin and large, rosy-cheeks. While appearing mostly humanoid, she sports a few abnormal and even animalistic features; such as red-toed hooves under her shoes, a dog-like black snout, a mouth with naturally black lips and fangs inside, and pointed black finger nails which vaguely resemble small claws.

Her thick, blonde ankle-length hair has thin light coral streaks on the thicker, paler-blonde highlights, and it is usually kept into a twice-banded ponytail by two black hair ties with flipped-bangs that ended with a curl. She also has eyes with light yellow sclera, red pupils, thick fluttery eyelashes and silver-like colored eyelids.

Charlie's attire consists of a red tuxedo-jacket with darker-colored lapels and under-cuffs, as well as small white tag on the left side, worn over a high-collared, white untucked dress-shirt with small black buttons on the upper-front, and small gold cuff links on the elbow-length sleeves' dark gray cuffs. In addition, she accessorizes her shirt with a small black bowtie and black suspenders over her shoulders.

Her dress pants are a darker shade of red compared to her jacket, and her shoes are that of heeled white saddle shoes with black toes and tips of the heels.

Full Demon[]

When in her full demon form, Charlie's appearance altered; her hair was let loose and is more flowy, and she gained a pair of maroon-colored horns atop of her head. Her eyes are reverse-colored; having light yellow irises with red sclera, though with slit pupils, thin black streaks across each eye, and longer and thicker eyelashes which resemble butterfly wings.

Her fingernails sported a much more claw-like appearance, and she also gained a long, black demonic tail with spikes and a red heart on the center of the triangular tip.

Pilot[]

In the Pilot, Charlie's appearance was nearly the same, only with some noticeable differences; her hair was wavier and was instead kept in a low-loose ponytail, her rosy-cheeks were a paler shade of red, and her pupils were black.

Her clothing then sported a pale red-black color scheme, with her jacket being a paler-red with black lapels and under-cuffs, and her dress pants being black with pale red cuffs, and two light yellow buttons down the waist.

Personality[]

A bleeding heart who wants to solve everyone else's problems except her own.
~ Husk summarizing Charlie's character and hinting at her insecurities.

Despite being born in hell and being the daughter of the Devil himself, Charlie is shown to be anything but what a normal Hellborn would act. In fact, all things considered, Charlie acts as what any angel would be in heaven and is shown that despite everyone being a jerk, she is shown to deeply care about the only home she's ever known.

Charlie cares about her friends and her people. She is naive and theatrical while brimming with passion. Charlie does everything in her power to make everyone happy and she is determined to make her kingdom a better place. However, she can be stubborn when something doesn't go her way. She has a cheerful and sweet personality while being somewhat naive. In addition, she also has a taste for singing and her girlfriend Vaggie tries to convince her to stop singing. Charlie appears to be a determined and compassionate character, driven by a desire to bring positive change to Hell. Her storytelling about the history of Hell and her commitment to creating the Hazbin Hotel reflect her imaginative and hopeful nature. Despite facing challenges and criticism, she remains optimistic about her mission to save demons from extermination.

Charlie's relationship with her mother and the absence of her father, Lucifer, for seven years suggest a complex family dynamic. Despite this, she holds onto the hope of making her parents proud and seems motivated by a sense of responsibility for the kingdom her mother cared about.

Her interaction with Vaggie reveals a close connection, with Vaggie being supportive and understanding of Charlie's emotions. Charlie's excitement about the leader of the Angel Army wanting to meet highlights her eagerness to engage with others and find solutions for the issues in Hell.

Despite her kind and understanding nature, Charlie is shown on a few occasions that she can be genuinely enraged because of how other people treat her and others. When Katie Killjoy's petty mockery went too far, Charlie called her a b*tch to her face out of frustration and during her fight with her, Charlie slams her face on her desk. She also is furious when she sees Valentino abusing Angel Dust and was prepared to attack him and was only stopped by Angel Dust shielding him and forcing Charlie to leave. When Susan of Cannibal Town kept interrupting her speech to convince them to fight against the exorcists, Charlie snapped and called her a b*tch then she started hugging in frustration. These moments show that Charlie can be assertive when she feels pushed too far. It’s also arguable that she’s too nice to the point that she can’t hurt someone without saying sorry even from enemy territory, as seen when she battled the exorcists to protect the hotel.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Demon Transformation: Charlie can enter a fearsome, more powerful Demon form.
  • Flight: According to Faustisse, both Charlie and her father have the ability to summon wings and are capable of flight.

Skillset[]

  • Multilingualism: Charlie speaks fluent English and is said to also be able to fluently speak the Demonic languages she grew up learning.
  • Hand-to-Hand Combat: As demonstrated in the pilot, Charlie is able to hold her own when in hand-to-hand fighting. She did not hesitate to engage in a round of fisticuffs with antagonistic newscaster, Katie Killjoy
  • Musical Talent: Charlie is considered a very talented singer, even outside of the show's non-diegetic musical numbers. She can also play the piano.
  • Dancing: In addition to her musical abilities, Charlie is also a skilled dancer and a fast-learner, as shown in "Alastor's Reprise" wherein she dances perfectly in sync to Alastor's steps. Charlie's personal style of dance is tap-dancing. It's something she can do very well.

Unique Abilities[]

  • Pyrokinesis: Charlie is able to summon fire at will while in any form. The pyrotechnics shown during "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" were summoned from the palm of her hand. She can later be seen using it again (albeit offscreen) to set Tom Trench on fire during her brawl at 666 News.
  • Demonic Magic: Being the daughter of Lucifer, Charlie can access powerful magic that is exclusive to the higher-ranking demons.

Weaponry[]

  • Trident: She has a three-pronged spear that she can will into existence and use offensively. This is possibly an angelic weapon, as it is capable of wounding Adam. The design of this weapon includes a snake coiled around the handle and an apple at the base of the blade, suggesting it was given to her by her father.
  • Shield: She has a crest-shaped shield with the same apple insignia on the front that she uses both defensively and as a bludgeon; as yet, it does not seem to have any special properties.

Biography[]

Past[]

Aside from brief flashback of Charlie as a child, very little is initially known about her childhood (until now), so far, the only information given is that she was born in hell, as the daughter of Lucifer Morningstar, the King of Hell, and his wife and queen, Lilith. As such, Charlie is demonic royalty and Lucifer's first and probably only "heiress". What little is shown suggests she was close to her parents, who were loving and protective, possibly overly so.

Growing up, she was mainly attached to her mother, but had a struggling relationship with her dad because he fell into a deep depression after accidentally causing evil to find it's way into creation, but she inherited not just his red cheek marks but also his dreams of creation before his fall into heaven but both still tried to get to know one another regardless but she still had to watch as heaven would send down an army who would exterminate sinners due to hell's overpopulation. When she reached adulthood, seven years ago her parents eventually split & it also forced Charlie to move out of their home with two little dragons named Razzle & Dazzle given to her by her dad as both her bodyguards & helpers along with a shapeshifting cat named KeeKee, despite technically being the 3rd most powerful being in hell (behind only her parents) her cheerful & goody-two-shoes personality lands her with little to no respect to anyone in hell (then again hell is full of sinners) & people only let her go around due to her status & because they fear her father's power.

Three years prior to the start of season one, during the night of one of the annual purges, Charlie found a girl named Vaggie in an alley, horribly wounded, mutilated, and dying. Believing her to be the victim of one of the Exorcists (technically true) she bound Vaggie's wounds and brought her to safety. Though at first she let her stay with her seeing that she got nowhere else to go, Charlie & Vaggie grew very close to each other since they only have each other to look out for & eventually, they started dating and became lovers where Vaggie became extremely protective of her in general. What she didn't know was that Vaggie in truth was an Exorcist herself who - for showing mercy to one sinner - had been assaulted by one of her allies. She kept this secret for the full three years, fearing the truth would cause Charlie not to trust her.

Hazbin Hotel[]

That's Entertainment[]

After sometime, Charlie having grown tired of the yearly exterminations heaven makes to deal with Hell's overpopulation, comes up with an idea to deal with the overpopulation in a safer way be redeeming sinners by bringing them together by opening a hotel she calls the "Happy Hotel" where the goal for it is to check out sinners so they can ascend to heaven, while also seeing this as a way to somehow fix herself with her family problems. With support from Vaggie, Charlie's first step of starting the hotel, the hotel itself is made from one of her family's buildings, is to find someone willing to check in but after failing to find anyone willing to do it, they decide to get someone to do it, which ultimately came in the form of an obnoxious famous porn star named Angel Dust, though he only decides to do it for a better place to live.

Two weeks later after the recent extermination, Charlie begins her next step in promoting the hotel is getting a live interview with the news, but before she can do so, Vaggie advices her to not sing because no one will take her seriously, unfortunately once demons barely react happily to her announcement she bursts out her announcement in song, but this get everyone except Vaggie to laugh at her. Things get even more chaotic when the ruthless newswoman Katie Killjoy mocks her even more about it & when Charlie tries talking about Angel, she soon discovers that he's joined his best friend in the recent turf war, ultimately getting into a fight herself against Katie with the camera still recording them.

One explosive brawl later, Charlie and the others drive back to the hotel in sadness over the interview going crazy, after stepping out, Charlie tries calling her mom about what to do, but sadly puts her call to voice mail when she sadly begins thinking that her dad was right about her not making a difference. However when she steps back inside, she gets a surprise knock on the door & when she opens it she finds herself in the presence of one of hell's many overlords & the fearsome Radio Demon Alastor, but despite her girlfriend's objections she lets him in, where she learns that Alastor has come to "help" her & she accepts Alastor's deal, with that set over, he immediately starts making renovations to it by bringing in a demon named Niffty as the maid & another named Husk as the Hotel's bartender.

Little did Charlie know was that while Alastor did (much like everyone else in the city) see her goal as a joke, he actually has much deeper motives for getting her on her side, which something that is made even more obvious when he changes the Hotel's name to the "HAZBIN" Hotel, suggesting grim things to come for her.

Overture[]

One week later Charlie comforts herself with the story of how hell came to be & hopes what she's trying to do will make it better, though that is proven a lot harder than she thinks because Alastor's commercial to promote the Hotel is basically his view on it. Fortunately, Charlie gets a call from her dad for something & when she answers she learns that he was scheduled to have a meeting with the leader of the Exorcists: the angels in charge of killing sinners, but asks Charlie to go in his place, seeing this as a chance to get heaven's support thinking they might love the idea, Charlie heads over to the bell tower where the extermination is signaled right now & puts Vaggie in charge while she's away.

When arrived at the main office, she is actually greeted by the second-in-command on the Exorcists Lute along with a holographic recording of her boss Adam, who she soon learns that he's actually the Adam, the first man ever created & her mom's ex-husband. When she tries to discuss about both Heaven & Hell's shared problem of overpopulation, Adam simply and obnoxiously guesses on a bunch of other random things which completely frustrates her, & making her see why her parents absolutely despise him, finally having enough of it, Charlie tries talking about the overpopulation issue right now, but Adam & Lute simply brushes it off as they see the extermination thing as the simpler solution to it and see sinners as evil regardless of their other aspects.

Despite this Charlie tries explaining her plan on redeeming sinners, Adam ruthlessly shoots it down by saying they already had their chance while also saying that he & his army take enjoyment in killing them again which angers her, but the worst part of it is that because of said problem, Adam tells her that he changed the next extermination date from a year to six months & (somehow) kicks her out of the room much to her frustration. After the meeting, Charlie walks back to the Hotel in defeat, but is overjoyed when she learns that Vaggie & the rest of the staff have made a brand-new & much better commercial for the Hotel, unfortunately Katie & her partner interrupted it to reveal the new extermination deadline, which sends all the main city into a panic.

Little did Charlie or anyone know was that the real reason for the new extermination deadline is because during the last one, one of the exorcists actually got killed, something that hasn't been done in centuries, and Adam is determined to make sure something like this doesn't happen again, though this was gonna give Charlie & her allies a huge advantage much later.

Radio killed the video star[]

Though rattled, a panicked Charlie is still determined to gets as many sinners into the Hotel & redeem them as fast as possible, something that also gives Vaggie the idea by realizing that with the new extermination deadline, sinners are practically willing to do anything to avoid getting killed & have their chance at getting more guests. While they are in the middle of this, they are attacked by the Victorian era snake-like demon Sir Pentious (who just attacked them last week) in an attempt to destroy Alastor, though he is defeated pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, after a while despite the new extermination deadline, Charlie & her girlfriend are unable to get any new guests to come to the hotel because everyone (as Angel puts it) would rather spend their time before the extermination having a blast rather than stay at the Hotel. Though surprisingly, they actually do get another guest in the form of Sir Pentious himself, & despite Vaggie & Angel's objections, Charlie invites him inside for a path to redemption.

Little did Charlie know was that Alastor's presence back in the city caught the attention of the current group of Overlords running the city the Vees, or more specifically the technology member of the Vees and Alastor's longtime rival Vox, who feeling threatened by his return hired Pentious to spy on the Hotel staff to destroy. Eventually, Pentious is soon discovered as a spy by the others, but after seeing that he's become a wreck in front of the Vees, Charlie forgives which convinces a grateful Sir Pentious to stay at the Hotel for real.

Scrambled Eggs[]

Now that they at least have more than one resident staying at the hotel, Charlie officially begins the rehabilitation process of her Hotel by trying all sorts of nice activities for the others to do, but seeing as there are obvious distrust between the inhabitants with sir Pentious, especially with him being depressed after having to part with his minions in order to be redeemed, Charlie has everyone everyone do trust exercises. But seeing as how her girlfriend's having a hard time trusting the others, Charlie lets Vaggie take control of the assignments, which immediately sends her into drill sergeant nasty mode & has everyone other than her girlfriend on an even crazier side of each other.

Wanting to make sure everyone gets to know each other on a more bigger level than trust falls, Charlie suggests everyone try & get to know each other somewhere, but when Angel's place of suggestion leaves everyone completely bothered, Vaggie suggests everyone start to learn trust on where she learned to trust people. Charlie is thrilled by this at first, but is shocked to learn that the place in question is a bloody battle zone for territory & throws everyone in the heart of the chaos, something which Charlie scolds her for.

However, by the end of the day, Charlie soon sees that the exercise was actually a successful plan just as Vaggie comes back to apologize for their earlier argument. As a special bonus, with the sight of everyone getting along with each other, Charlie and Vaggie decide to let Sir Pentious keep his minions (who spent the whole day with Alastor) inside the Hotel.

Masquerade[]

Sometime later, after being grossed out by Angel's latest porn star movie as part of their latest exercise for the redemption path, Charlie sees that he is struggling between his work & time at the hotel and wants to help him but he declines & heads out. Afterwards Charlie asks Vaggie on how can she help Angel with his problems, to which her girlfriends advices her to try & command more authority due to her status as Hell's princess but seeing as she's to kind to do that, Vaggie points out that it can be "aggressive kindness", which inspires her to be so "aggressively kind" to Angel's boss that he'll let him off the hook.

Heading to the porn studio where Angel works, Charlie tries to defend him when he sees him being treated like dirt by his rude boss & most ruthless member of the Vees Valentino despite his hard work, but Angel quickly and rudely kicks her out, out of fear that Valentino might hurt her, which sends her running off crying much to Angel's regret. At the end of the day, after Angel gets into another argument with Husk over him faking his persona, Charlie & Vaggie urge him to go off & make up with him, with the former telling to at least do it in a nice way.

Later on when he & Angel head back to the Hotel a depressed Charlie hugs & deeply apologizes for her earlier accidental intrusion, but Angel, who had just gotten to know Husk a lot better & even got to tell each other's secrets & regrets, both thanks her caring about her & forgives her despite that she had nothing to apologies for. Hearing this sends Charlie completely exploding into tears as it was the first time anyone (other than her parents & her girlfriend) had ever forgiven her as she is picked up & handed over to Vaggie by Angel and she happily carries her still crying girlfriend all the way back to their room.

Dad beat dad[]

Five months later, Charlie quickly discovers that despite all the nice activities she's been having everyone do, no one is nowhere close to even flying up in heaven & starts going a little crazy on how to make her hotel work especially with the next exterminations, fortunately Vaggie is able to snap her out of her crazy mode by pointing out that it should be time for her to use her biggest advantage yet: call her dad for help. Charlie is initially against this idea due to him letting the exterminations happen, but is able to see the advantage of this by realizing due to his former spot in heaven, she hopes he could be able to get her a meeting with the one in charge of heaven to show them her plans.

Despite having initial setbacks in calling him ever since he & her mom split, Charlie is able to talk to her dad for the first time in years, on the other side of the call Lucifer (who had gone into a depressive state since their family's split) tries denying her cry for his advice which starts to let Charlie down, but with Vaggie comforting her by taking her hand in her own, Charlie is able to calmly ask her dad for help, which Lucifer takes as her inviting him over which he immediately accepts. With the "Big man of Hell" coming over in an hour, Charlie & the other prepare for his arrival, where Charlie gets into a giant bear hug with her dad as she guides her around the hotel, but he gets into an instant rivalry with Alastor which almost abrupt into a fight between them but fortunately gets interrupted by an old acquaintance of Alastor named Mimzy.

After being given a tour around the rest of the Hotel, Charlie asks her dad if he could get him that meeting with heaven, but still refuses to do so while also pointing out that he really doesn't see the point in helping sinners because they already doomed themselves in life already. Which is able to be proven right when a gang of literal loan sharks who Mimzy angered start attacking the hotel, while Alastor begins attacking them, despite this Charlie points out that while Alastor does find what she does ridiculous he at least has faith in her while her own dad can't, which rattles Lucifer.

After the loan sharks leave Charlie begs her dad to why he doesn't believe her, which then Lucifer reveals that the real reason is because he believes heaven won't listen to her just like they didn't listen to him because he tried to change their minds about the exterminations but failed, while also saying that now his kid's "the only thing worth fighting for". Hearing this, Charlie assures him that her dream is worth fighting for, which is enough to finally convince Lucifer to get her that meeting with heaven before leaving.

Now that she's got a meeting with her father's old creator, Charlie is now excited to finally get a chance to promote her Hotel in heaven as well as learning how does one's soul gets into heaven, however, her father tells her that he won't be coming with her but while now convinced she can do fine on her own, Charlie excitedly tells Vaggie that she's coming with her to heaven. Unbeknownst to her Vaggie is anything but excited to come along with her & Charlie is completely unaware that during her upcoming trip she's soon gonna learn something that'll rattle her to her core.

Welcome to Heaven[]

Now that she has the chance to promote her Hotel in a more passionate way, Charlie begins hastily packing for her & Vaggie's trip to heaven, but despite her girlfriend's initial dislike for coming along, Charlie tells her that she needs her up there to which she decides to do. Before they head to heaven, Angel's best friend & famed bomber Cherri Bomb arrives to initially take Angel for a night out in town, but she is paid by Charlie to take everyone else for fun just as a portal to Heaven arrives to take her & Vaggie there.

Upon walking up to the golden gates where heaven resides, the hellish couple are happily greeted by it's gatekeeper saint Peter who when asks for their names she quickly points out that she's Lucifer's kid which sends him into a troubled state considering his reputation there. Fortunately Charlie & Vaggie are greeted soon afterwards by Sera, the High-Ranking Seraphim who knew her dad during his time in heaven and Emily whose pretty much Charlie's heavenly counterpart & they get along quite well (which slightly drives Vaggie jealous), but as they tour heaven's capital city, she & Vaggie are unknowingly spotted by an angry Adam & Lute but despite being told by Sera to "keep this problem from getting worse", Adam instead chose to ensure that Charlie's Hotel business is shut down so the exterminations can continue.

After a while of touring heaven, Charlie's hearing with Sera eventually begins, unfortunately Sera turns her meeting into a trial with Adam against her, in court, Charlie tries to show of her Hotel's functional means of rehabilitation, Adam forces her to speed up her presentations which makes her fire back at him by asking how he got into heaven despite his rude attitude. This leaves Adam completely speechless because he himself doesn't even know how he got into heaven despite being the first human soul there (though all things considered it's safe to assume that he was brought into heaven regardless), which forces him to quickly make an absurdly short list that all but reads: "Act selfless, don't steal, stick it to the man", as the ways of getting into heaven.

To prove him wrong, Charlie is able to show the heavenly court that shows Angel's progress & with Emily's urging Sera allows them all to continue watching him which shows him doing exactly all three at once: ordering drinks for everyone, stopping Niffty from stealing something, & even standing up to Valentino, despite this Adam still refuses to see that sinners can change but when Charlie points out he did everything on his "checklist" to which Charlie wonders why isn't he here, which leaves everyone in question. With this sight, Charlie realizes that no one in heaven knows how their system works which Sera noncoherently answers by saying they only know when someone arrives & not how they do it & tries to dismiss the conversation but Emily, who was with Charlie's side her whole time in heaven, agrees with Charlie's plan & aids her in trying to talk sense into them, which leads to Adam accidentally revealing the extermination to everyone, which was Sera's one rule to him, hearing this the angry demon & angel pretty much call them out for treating the system of good & evil as black & white when it's been made clear that it's just one big shade of gray, but out of spite for her simply breaking his reputation (may I remind you that he's only tolerated for his attitude 'cause of he's the first human) & despite Vaggie's plea to don't do it, Adam ruthlessly reveals to Charlie that she's an exorcist & by extension an angel, which leaves her completely heartbroken.

This revelation, but also secretly fearing that Emily might end up like Lucifer if she went against heaven's rule, Sera hypocritically rules the court in Adam's favor, despite that his case was very poor to succeed which leaves both Charlie & Vaggie even more devastated, even worse, Adam heartlessly tells them that once extermination day arrives, he's leading his army directly on their hotel first & kill everyone there, before opening a portal behind their back that forcefully pulls the couple back to hell. Despite this, Charlie was able to at least ruin Adam's reputation in heaven & Emily (whether she heard her or not before being sent back) promises to help her with her plans.

Hello Rosie![]

After their trip to heaven, completely devastated with the fact her plan with the Hotel falls on depth ears & the fact that an angry mob of exorcists are right on her doorstep, on top of the fact that Vaggie (the one she felt she trusted the most) hasn't being completely truthful to her, Charlie locks herself in her room (though it's been shared with Vaggie since it's opening) to sulk about her biggest failure yet. However Alastor, seeing his biggest chance with her yet, comes into her room to sorta help her, when Charlie vents the situation of her problem, adding the fact that Adam's army is seemingly invincible, Alastor reveals something he knows something & will only tell her if she makes a real deal with him to which she does, fortunately it's not her soul he wants but rather a favor he wishes her to do in another time.

When Vaggie tries to attack Alastor for it Charlie, still upset with Vaggie not revealing her past to her, stops her from doing so & Alastor reveals that Exorcists can be killed & that Carmilla Carmine, a fellow Overlord who made a fortune by selling leftover angelic steel, was able to do it, which Charlie orders her to learn how she did it while she & Alastor head out to find more help. Since they need an army to combat the Angels and no one in the city is even willing to help her 'cause they see her as a joke, Charlie follows Alastor to someone who can get them the help they need, while walking Charlie vents about the fact that she spent 3 years with Vaggie & she tells her everything about herself but finds it infuriating with the fact that she's been unknowingly dating an exorcist angel before discovering that the place they're hear in is Cannibal town, which as it's name implies is a place full of Cannibals but is surprisingly nice, which Charlie finds surprising as even she found their nature to be disgusting.

Entering an emporium, Alastor introduces Charlie to a fellow Overlord & old friend of his named Rosie who currently runs the town, whose shown to be one of the nicest sinners Charlie's ever met yet & even admits to having a love to musicals, though she tells Charlie that if she wants the help of the cannibals she's gonna have to convince them to do so. Entering the town's center podium, Charlie tries to get the town attention but can't pitch her ideas right because she's still upset ever Vaggie's secret, along with getting absolutely riled up the town's most stubborn citizen which forces Rosie to take her into her house to calm her down.

Taking her into her room & seeing she's being bothered by her relationship problems, Rosie asks Charlie what's bothering her, to which she reveals Vaggie's secret but when she questions if all the times they spent together was part of the lie, a question with Rosie can't bring herself to admit that she hates her and makes her see that their love is just as genuine as her actions which is enough to make peace with herself. But still unable to pitch her Hotel right, Rosie inspires her to just do it the way she does it: singing, returning to the podium & with Alastor even handing her his microphone, Charlie is able to sing her way into the hearts of everyone (mostly through the promise of letting them feast on the angels) & they all march back to the hotel to prepare for the fight ahead.

Returning to the hotel with the cannibals behind her, Charlie meets up with Vaggie right at the front door, but before she could say anything, Charlie reconciles with her first which is enough to melt her heart as well commenting on her newly restored wings (which were cut by Lute when she spared a sinner) and the boatloads of angelic steel she got from Carmilla, as it was the only thing capable of killing angels. As a special bonus, when the once again happy couple return inside, they find everyone else (who were at first told to leave the hotel to avoid the extermination) preparing the place for war, happily showing Charlie's actions to them was enough to gain their undying loyalty, which leads to the two of them helping along.

The Show Must Go On[]

With both an army & the knowledge of killing the exterminators at their disposal, Charlie & everyone present make their final preparations to fortify the Hotel and give Adam a fight he will regret picking, with everyone (plus Cherri Bomb who has decided to join them in the fight) having one last drink together before the big battle. Though once everyone settles into their rooms, Charlie cries over the possibility of them losing & the fact that she's leading them all to their deaths, but when Vaggie sees this she slowly leads them into a light corner to assure her that while she didn't redeem her guests she at least was able to help change their lives, before they both admit they love each other and kiss.

Once extermination day finally arrives, Charlie & Vaggie (dressed in appropriate attire for the fight) lead everyone into battle with Alastor aiding them by creating a forcefield around them to both grab even more angelic weapons & (at least) slow down the angels for them to kill them. But Adam breaks it down & goes head-to-head with Alastor, as the exorcists grow closer on them, Charlie gets a little out-of-focus due to her apologizing for all the attacks & defenses she makes before Vaggie gets her back in the action.

Though things get even more difficult when Adam, having just forced Alastor to briefly retreat, begins raining holy laser beams on everyone, realizing they need to get him out of the way, Sir Pentious heads up to his blimp to prepare to fire on him, just not before revealing his newly-developed feelings for Cherri Bomb and kissing her, but because it was taking to long Adam easily destroys it & taking Pentious & his minions on board with it. Devastated by this forces Charlie to go full-demon and has Razzle & Dazzle transform into full-on dragons with her as she and Vaggie mount on them and fight past all the exorcists, eventually the pair are able to get to Adam & Lute with Vaggie personally taking on the latter while Charlie goes head-to-head with her mom's ex-husband, as she finally hurts Adam back, managing to stab Adam on his shoulder and make him bleed as well as finally insulting him back, calling him a "pig".

Despite having the sheer advantage in power, Charlie is unable to keep up with Adam's slightly superior combat experience just as he manages he grabs her by the neck & choke her with Vaggie being forced to watch, but just before Adam kills her he knocked away as Charlie falls out of his grip & lands on her dad's arms: despite allowing the exorcists to kill sinners, Lucifer was able to get them to not kill any hellborn demons, & because Charlie's one of them (more specifically because he deeply loves her) it's all the reason for him to finally get involved. With that set in mind, Charlie watches Lucifer begin to openly humiliate Adam as they duke it out in the air, but when she rushes to save Vaggie from Lute she gets caught in the crossfire with Adam that tears apart the Hotel & falling into the crack between them before once again being saved by her dad, but when Adam tries to attack her again Charlie grabs him by the arm with her new abilities, proving that she is much stronger than Adam much to his shock before as Lucifer sends him crashing to the ground (breaking his mask in the process) & gives him a well-deserved beatdown all the while reminding him why he's the big man of the netherworld, although Charlie convinces her dad to spare him despite everything he's done but Lucifer does so 'cause he's already satisfied, but an ungrateful Adam has a complete breakdown, foolishly proclaiming himself a god before Niffty (who took Charlie's orders to stab any exorcist seriously) stabs in the back & finally kills him, afterwards Lucifer then orders a grieving Lute to get the rest of the army to go home.

Although her act of standing up to the exorcists was enough to get even the respect of Katie and even forcing heaven to straight-up cancel extermination day, Charlie is left completely heartbroken over sir Pentious' sacrifice & her failure in getting heaven to work with her even if was all Sera and Adam's fault they never listened, as well her hotel being destroyed & feels like giving up. However Lucifer, now fully believing in her dream, cheers her up by reminding her that she has done something no one else could: unbury the good in damned souls, and with her girlfriend and everyone else following his lead, Charlie's hope of making a difference is restored & together (along with a restored Alastor, much to her dad & Husk's disappointment) rebuilt an even bigger version of her Hotel, and as a big bonus (though unknown to her and her friends at the moment), Sir Pentious' selfless act thanks to Charlie's influence is able to get him reformed & sent to heaven, proving to Sera that demons can indeed become redeemed and capable of joining heaven.

~ Charlie, attempting to convince Angel to go to her hotel. (In comic version.)
Once upon a time, there was a glowing city protected by golden gates, known as Heaven. It was ruled by beings of pure light. Angels that worshiped good and shielded all from evil. Lucifer was one of these angels. He was a dreamer with fantastical ideas for all of creation. But, he was seen as a troublemaker by the elders of Heaven. For they felt his way of thinking was dangerous to the order of their world, so he watched as the angels began to expand the universe in their ways. From the dust of Earth, they created Adam and Lilith, equals as the first of mankind, but despite this, Adam demanded control, and Lilith refused to submit to his will, She fled the Garden, drawn in by her fierce independence, Lucifer found her and the two rebellious dreamers fell deeply in love. Together, they wished to share the magic of free will with humanity, offering the Fruit of Knowledge to Adam's new bride, Eve, who gladly accepted. But this gift came with a curse for with this single act of disobedience, evil finally found its way into the Earth, with it, a new realm of darkness and sin and the order Heaven worked to maintain was shattered. As punishment for their reckless act, Heaven cast Lucifer and his love into the dark pit he had created, never allowing him to see the good that came from humanity, only the cruel and the wicked. Ashamed, Lucifer lost his will to dream, but Lilith thrived, empowering demonkind with her voice and her songs and as the numbers of Hell grew, so did its power. Threatened by this, Heaven made a truly heartless decision that every year, they would send down an army, an Extermination, to ensure Hell and its sinners could never rise against them. But Lilith's hope remained and her dream was passed down to their precious daughter, the Princess of Hell.

Trivia[]

  • Charlie is bisexual as Vivziepop tweeted a bisexual pride flag above her and her affections towards Vaggie.
    • Her ex-boyfriend was Seviathan Von Eldritch, who is the brother of her rival Helsa von Eldritch. It was never clarified what happened between them that made them break up whether it was by choice or by force.
  • Even though Lucifer and Lilith look like normal people, Charlie has animal traits. This may be due to Lucifer's shapeshifting or hell itself, even though she was literally born without sin to warp her appearance.
  • Charlie's appearance and personality may have been inspired by Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx as they are both female heroic monsters that have sharp fangs and long hair, as well as appearing to be much more cheerful and loving to their love interests.
  • Charlie's character may have been inspired by the princesses of the Disney franchise, but among all of them, it's Rapunzel who she takes the most inspiration from, mainly because both of them are blonde princesses with a happy and all-loving personality who try to see the best in everything, as well as the unbreakable will to make their respective dreams come true.
  • Vivzipop has confirmed that Charlie's relationship with Vaggie parallels the relationship between Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
  • According to Vivziepop, Charlie and her father both have fully functional demonic wings that are only visible when being used.
    • Though the first season finale implies Charlie is either out of practice using them or hasn't used them yet chronologically.
  • Her last name "Morningstar" is a reference to The Sandman, where the Devil is referred to as Lucifer Morningstar.
    • In actual religion, Lucifer is often referred to as "Venus" which means "Morningstar".
  • Charlie doesn't show any of the seven deadly sins and pretty much embodies all of the seven heavenly virtues:
    • Charity: Everything Charlie works toward is for the betterment of others at no gain to herself. She’s very content with the idea of Sinner living in the hotel for free as long as they want to redeem themselves and in the prequel comic she gave to Angel Dust a hefty sum of money as an “investment in him”. This is also probably the virtue she embodies like her father as well, as everything he did back in Eden was out of an attempt to give others happiness.
    • Chastity: Charlie is easily one of the most morally wholesome characters in the show and lives a very clean life free from the many hedonistic pleasures found in Hell. While Husk noting that Charlie confides in him suggests that she might occasionally drink, it’s never to the point of addiction and she never uses drugs or indulges herself in unhealthy behavior. It's also implied she and Vaggie have a very active, happy sex life but the two are in a monogamous and committed relationship as opposed to most Sinners.
      • VizziePop confirmed that Season 2 will show Charlie and Vaggie's sex life.
    • Kindness: She really wants to redeem Sinners with having nothing in return, and she willingly forgives those who wronged her as long as they genuinely repent. In the past she even saved Vaggie, who at the time was recently injured and banished from Heaven by Lute and Adam with no questions asked, although she mistook her for a Sinner who had a close call with an Exorcist.
    • Humility: Despite her being The Princess of Hell, she never uses her status or her powers to boss people around nor looks them down upon, and instead goes to great lengths to protect them. When Adam asks her why she would give up her immortal life for Sinners during their battle, she immediately responds that everyone in her hotel is her family.
    • Patience: Even when she has to deal with shady jerks, she tries to be professional and civil to them, and when she does lose her cool, it’s either in self-defense, or because those people earned her hatred for good reasons (such as Adam and Valentino).
    • Diligence: She takes her job at the Hazbin Hotel very seriously, and she is willing to confront Heaven itself to make sure her goal of redeeming damned souls would come into fruition, despite starting with little to no support, and despite the many challenges and setbacks she faces, Charlie always picks herself back up and keeps pushing onward to make her dream of redemption a reality.
    • Temperance: Despite starting from a position with very little knowledge of how exactly to redeem Sinners, Charlie is mindful of personal limits and boundaries. She often reins in the more extreme impulses of the other residents of the Hotel, such as when Vaggie took a trust exercise to a warzone, while also being open minded about their thoughts and histories.
  • She has gained some infamy on the internet by appearing in a $50,000 animation commissioned by Youtuber, Verbalase in which she chases and seduces him. This is obviously non-canon, especially since it wasn't approved by any of the show's creators and never will be. Weirdly, she has white eyes in said animation instead of the usual yellow.
  • Being born in Hell, Charlie is one of the only characters in Hazbin Hotel not to be born as a human. In addition, she’s probably one of the oldest in Hell.
  • Going through pictures in Lucifer's room, Charlie had an emo phase in her younger years.
  • According to YouTuber Faustisse, who worked on the show, Charlie is around 200 years old, making her around 20 by demon standards.
    • If Season One is contemporary to 2024, Charlie would have been born 1824.
  • Charlie's pilot name may be a dead giveaway to the real-life historical monarch Charles the Great, who is also known as Charlemagne.
