Charlotte Lee Richards, more commonly referred to as Charlotte Richards and Charlotte, is a major character in the TV series Lucifer.
She is a defense attorney and co-founder of the law firm Richards and Wheeler, in Beverly Hills. During a meeting in a hotel with a source to try to dismantle an entire mafia organization, Charlotte is murdered by a fellow lawyer. The Goddess then takes possession of her body and pretends to be Charlotte, before moving into another dimension and creating her own world. Charlotte is therefore resurrected. After understanding her sins, Charlotte tries to repent and do good.
She is portrayed by Tricia Helfer, who also voiced Sarah Kerrigan of the game StarCraft II.
Personality[]
As a defense attorney, Charlotte was confident, energetic, determined and cold. In any case, she helped several mafia, murderers, criminals and other mobsters to escape justice in order to fully earn a living and make a place for herself in the legal world. Charlotte is so well known in the criminal community that it is said that criminals could be jealous if they ever saw another criminal being defended by Charlotte.
Yet deep down, Charlotte considered herself a good person, who paid her taxes and was not accountable to anyone. She is also very competitive, but is a negligent mother and cheats on her husband with her partner. Sometimes, however, Charlotte acted in the right direction, as before her murder, she tried to bring down a notorious Mexican drug cartel. However, basically, Charlotte felt guilty and knew that what she was doing was wrong, so that's why she ended up in hell when she died.
There, her infernal loop showed her waking up in the morning, smelling the smell of coffee and sitting down with her family for breakfast. At that moment, a criminal she knows and has already defended before, enters and kills her entire family. Charlotte she smiles and does nothing. Each time, it is a different criminal who enters, but always a criminal she has helped escape justice.
At her resurrection, Charlotte is unable to remember the last months, when the Goddess pretended to be her. She learns among other than during her absence, she divorced her husband and granted him custody of the children, bought 30 cases of merlot and bought an apartment in downtown Los Angeles. Charlotte claims to remember everything and continues to do her job as a lawyer but no longer understands what is happening. After a discussion with Lucifer' Charlotte learns that she feels guilty for having helped several criminals and for being a corrupt lawyer. From that moment on, and thanks to Lucifer and Dr. Linda, Charlotte leaves her law firm and now works for the prosecutor's office.
She now assists Chloe and the LAPD in their investigations, really trying to change and do her best. However, doing bad is a lot easier than doing good, and Charlotte has a bit of a hard time letting go of her old shadow. Over time, she begins to believe that she is going mad, after Amenadiel accidentally said too much things about divinity and angels after he mistook her for her mom, and she falls into a depression. Lucifer decides to show her his angel wings in order to get Charlotte out of this bad patch. However, now having the certainty that angels do indeed exist, Charlotte convinces herself that Lucifer and Amenadiel will be able to carry her to Heaven and therefore abandons all her efforts at kindness to return to her former self. She confesses to Amenadiel that doing good is too hard for her and that she will end up in Hell anyway. Amenadiel succeeds in convincing Charlotte that it is not impossible for her to change and that he knows that she is capable of it. Charlotte then helps him investigate Marcus Pierce to prove he's the world-wanted criminal know as the Sinnerman and works hard to put Forest Clay, a former client of her, in jail and protect Forest's current girlfriend from his abuse. Charlotte then discovers that she likes to do good, even if she still doubts the possibility that one day she will be able to reach Heaven.
Powers and Abilities[]
Being a human, she does not have supernatural powers but nevertheless has several abilities :
- Law Enforcement Expertise : Having learned to be a lawyer around her 20’s, Charlotte acquired many legal skills and knowledge, particularly concerning the rights of accused persons. As a lawyer, she will often seek a legal loophole so that her clients are exonerated. During her redemption, Charlotte leaves her law firm when she is offered a position in the Los Angeles district attorney's office and will use her many acquired knowledge to arrest several criminals and help Chloe and Lucifer in their investigations.
- Extreme Intellect : Charlotte has been stated to have an above average IQ.
- Charisma : Charlotte is a very charismatic woman. Several of her former clients still respect her. Charlotte even manages to recreate her romantic relationship with Dan (originally created by the Goddess).
- Deductive analysis : In criminal investigations as in real life, Charlotte is very deductive and evaluative.
- Manipulation : Competence acquired in the legal world, Charlotte knows how to manipulate, deceive and make suspects talk, especially when it is one of her former clients.
- Intimidation : She knows how to intimidate very well to her own interests of Legal interests.
- Physical Appearance : Charlotte is a very beautiful and very tall woman, which is often noticed by people to her. During her possession by Goddess, she even used Charlotte's physical qualities for her own interests.
