Charlotte Roselei (シャルロット・ローズレイ, Sharurotto Rōzurei) is a supporting protagonist in Black Clover. She is a noblewoman from the House of Roselei, a Magic Knight that serves within the Clover Kingdom and the captain of the Blue Rose Knights.
She was voiced by Yū Kobayashi (Japanese) and Colleen Clinkenbeard (English).
Appearance[]
Charlotte is a tall and slim woman with upper-back length blonde hair that is braided in the back where she usually keeps her hair tied back into a bun with only a single lone braid hanging down on the left side of her face while she has bangs swept to the left side (she later wears her long blonde hair down instead of in her usual bun when she tries to be more open about her romantic feelings for Yami Sukehiro after the Elf Reincarnation Arc), sky-blue eyes with visible long eyelashes and full pink lips.
Charlotte is reputed as the most beautiful woman in the Clover Kingdom as seen in flashbacks when she had many men propose to her for her beauty and strength before turning them all down.
Personality[]
At first, Charlotte is a quiet, strict and cold-hearted woman who hates men. However, she does care for her fellow Magic Knights and she has tsundere feelings for Yami Sukehiro.
History[]
In her childhood, Charlotte was cursed. If she did not find true love, her own magic would go berserk, killing herself and many people. She refused to find love, believing that men are weak and vowed to cure the curse herself.
Many years later however, she succumbed to the curse and her magic went berserk. Accepting her fate, Yami Sukehiro came by and saved her. Humiliated, she believed Yami would mock her, only to instead be scolded for relying on herself. She fell in love with him, and her curse stops.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Briar Magic: Charlotte's magic. It allows her to create and manipulate briar's.
- Mana Skin: Charlotte coats her body in mana to protect her.
Spells[]
- Blue Rose Paradise: Charlotte creates two connected, concentric magic circles on the floor. The arrays generate briars that cover the floor, and extend up the walls, and capture any enemies touching the vines. If the victims are cursed, the vines will absorb and weaken the curse power.
- Corpse-Hunting Briar Tree: Charlotte several prickle-covered vines, which grow around her. These prickly vines actively hunt the targets. Once these vines have caught them, they merge together and rise to create a tall trees of briars while the targets are still trapped between the prickles.
True Briar Magic[]
- Queen of Briars: This spells allows Charlotte to form a dress out of thorns and roses that increases the power of her magic.

Etymology[]
- The name Charlotte means "free/free man, petite" in French.
- Charlotte is a female derivative of the name Charles, which means "strong, free/free man". After being cursed, she resolved to become strong enough to break the curse herself, eventually becoming a Magic Knights captain.

- Charlotte prefers wearing armor to dresses.
- Charlotte is one of the taller females in the cast at 171 cm.
- Yami Sukehiro calls Charlotte "Prickly Queen" because of her Tsundere tendencies toward him while being completely unaware about her romantic feelings for him.
- Thanks to being the only female captain besides Mereoleona Vermillion (who was only temporarily captain of the Crimson Lions when Fuegoleon Vermillion was in a coma) and Dorothy Unsworth (who's usually sleep), Charlotte is the most active female captain and the one who tends to chide the male captains for their rash decisions and failures.
- Charlotte is of French descent. Her surname is French.
- If Charlotte confesses her love to Yami, this would make her as one of the foreigner women to be fallen in love with Japanese men in the anime and manga.
