Chastity Marks (born c. 1959) is the titular comic book super-heroine who was eventually transformed into a vampire. She was trained as an assassin after a vampire elder discovered her standing out from other vampires, though she can be anti-heroic.
Biography[]
Chastity Marks was a normal American girl who lived in Toledo, Ohio with her father. However, her father had abused and molested her. One day, in 1976, at age seventeen, she ran away, with the goal to travel to London.
Once there, she would train with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and become an actress. However, she arrived in Manhattan on Halloween, hungry and broke. In order to gather a sufficient amount of money to purchase food and continue the rest of her journey, she tried her hand as a stripper, but quickly discovered her dislike for the profession.
Chastity left her job, but as she left the club, she witnessed a heated argument between Jackie Slade (a black private detective) and the club's manager. Chastity overheard the argument and learned that Jackie was there to take his young niece away from the establishment.
The manager pulled a gun out and attempted to kill Slade, but Chastity stopped him. Slade quickly escorted Chastity off the premises and gave her all his money, before returning to get niece, only to be killed in the gunfight.
After a while, Chastity had made it to London, but her goal to become an actress were crushed when the academy turned her away. Therefore, Chastity instead became involved in the newly-emerging "punk rock" trend, and became acquainted with a punk-rock band called "The Nobs", and wound up dating the band leader, Billy Zone.
One day, Chastity was running an errand for the band to get drumsticks from their van in an alley, when she was attacked by an obese vampire named Farley, but Chastity got away by stabbing a drumstick in his eye. However, oblivious to Chastity, she didn't escape with her life.
When she later awoke from the encounter after passing out, Chastity found herself in the company of a vampire called The Countess, who told her about what happened. Countess trained her and told Chastity that she was now undetectable to other vampires.
Over the next few years, Countess trained Chastity to be an assassin, with Chastity trying to stop her fellow vampires from killing her mortal boyfriend, gradually winning the grudging respect of the European Council of Vampires.
Chastity returned to Manhattan in 1980, where she became part of the burgeoning "goth" scene. That year on Halloween, she was given a great surprise when she saw Jackie Slade walk into a club that she was in, and murder apparently-innocent musicians.
Later on, she went to the New York Public Library in order to do some research. After some digging, Chastity discovered that, since Jackie died in 1976, his undead spirit was reported to return each Halloween to slaughter musicians.
A bit more digging revealed that his targets, far from being innocent, were members of a group run by a mystery man called Danton, and calling itself the Church of the Immortal. Chastity disguised herself and tried to locate the cult, eventually being captured by some of them and taken to their leader.
Danton revealed that he was a six-hundred-year-old demon who drained his victims' life forces to survive, and that he was planning to use his musicians to place subliminal messages in their work so that others would be ensnared by his Church, just as Jackie's niece had been.
Chastity escaped, and feeling indebted to Slade for what he had done years before, she set out to eliminate Danton. Initially he eluded her, but she finally caught up with him during the Greenwich Village Costume Parade, where he was stealing the life forces of those in attendance.
Unfortunately for her, he was too powerful, and far from ending his threat, he managed to drain her life too. This proved to be a mistake; now that he was contaminated with her vampirically tainted energies, Danton finally became vulnerable to Slade. The ghost made short work of the demon, freeing the spirits he had captured, including Chastity and his niece.
His last communication with the vampiress was that she should live, for all of Danton's victims, advice she has taken to heart ever since. Following in Slade's footsteps, she tries to fight evil and protect the innocents, because she was one herself once.
She'd love to live a normal life, but knows she can't. After Evil Ernie decimated the city in the early 1990s she gained a new goal, to see him eradicated once and for all. After a confrontation with Evil Ernie she suddenly developed a serious crush on him. Later on, she asked him if he wanted to join her in a "relaxing" murder spree in Graceland, but Ernie rejected her.
