Detective-Lieutenant Chloe Decker is the deuteragonist of the TV series Lucifer.
She is a homicide detective working in Los Angeles as a member of the L.A.P.D. While investigating a murder at the Lux nightclub, Chloe encounters Lucifer Morningstar, the former ruler of Hell, who is now living on Earth. She is assisted by Lucifer on the case (despite her protests) and the two end up forming a professional relationship as a detective-consultant duo, before she falls in love with the fallen angel. She is also one of the two archenemies of the archangel Michael, the other being Lucifer.
She is portrayed by Lauren German.
Origin[]
John and Penelope Decker, respectively police officer and actress, wanted to have a baby but they couldn't. God, on the other hand, wanted to redeem his wayward son, Lucifer. So God sent his son, the angel Amenadiel, to Earth to bless the couple and had a drink with Penelope at a bar. Later, Penelope became pregnant and Chloe was born in 1981, a gift from God for Lucifer.
As a teenager, Chloe starred in a low-budget film, Hot Tub High School, where she shot a scene topless. The film brought her minor fame. Unfortunately, her father died two weeks later, murdered by Perry Smith, just before the premiere, when she was 19 years old. At the funeral, Nick, a paparazzi, took it upon himself to attend the funeral and take pictures of Chloe. In return, Chloe hit her camera, shattering the lens. Chloe then abandoned her budding career as an actress to follow in her father's footsteps and find her murderer.
When she starts working for the police, she meets Daniel Espinoza, a young officer who shows her around and reassures her. They later fall in love, get married, and have a daughter, Beatrice, nicknamed Trixie, born March 1, 2008. They later end up being promoted homicidal detectives. However, shortly before the events of Season 1, Chloe and Dan break up, with Chloe finding that he doesn't make enough time for her family life. They don't divorce yet.
Later, Chloe suspects an other homicidal detective, Malcom Graham, of being corrupt and begins to investigate him. She follows him to Palmetto Street, but Dan follows her as well. Malcom notices Chloe in the middle of a deal with criminals, but pretends nothing has happened and prepares to kill her. However, Dan intervenes and shoots Malcom and his partners before fleeing, leaving him between life and death. Chloe does not know who it is but she continues her investigation despite everything, which earns her the hatred of her colleagues. Before the events of season 1, Chloe is very unpopular in the police and no one wants to work with her.
Personality[]
Chloe is a typical by-the-book cop who thrives for justice. Her decision to join the force came from wanting to honor her father, a police captain, after he was killed on duty. Her relationship with Lucifer has a lot of complications since she's usually the more serious between them and always talks him out of going too far with their suspects. Unlike other women, Chloe isn't drawn to Lucifer's charm and sees him for who he really is, thus having a major impact in Lucifer's maturity and self-development.
For the first three years they've known each other, Chloe repeatedly dismissed Lucifer's claims of being the Devil. She also didn't lisren when he tried to warn her about the new lieutennant, Marcus Pierce, being Cain in secret, although she does realize it after he killed Charlotte. After finally realizing Lucifer is indeed the actual Devil and how everything he's been telling her was true, she began to doubt if the good man she's come to love was really evil incarnate and even initially worked with Father Kinley to send him back to Hell; however, she eventually came to accept him after seeing how much he cares about her.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Desire Exhibition Immunity: Chloe is the only human immune to Lucifer's desire mojo, something only Celestials are capable of. This might have something to do with her being a gift from God.
- Invulnerability Neutralization: Whenever Lucifer is within a 100 feet close to Chloe, he's temporarily mortal and can be harmed by any means, only being invulnerable again when Chloe is nowhere nearby. However, as Amenadiel later theorized, it's because Lucifer self-actualized himself to be vulnerable around Chloe out of his love for her.
- Desire Exhibition: After sleeping with Lucifer for the first time, Chloe somehow got his desire mojo; however, it seems to only work on him and doesn't work on humans. It's unknown if she still has this power as it is never used again.
- Celestial Physiology (formerly): As long as Azrael's blade is on Earth, Chloe got Celestial powers from Amenadiel's necklace since it's the Key to the Flaming Sword. She eventually loses her powers after Lucifer took the blade back to Heaven.
- Superhuman Strength: With the necklace, Chloe has superstrength. She easily overpowered Michael and broke a lock with her bare hands.
- Superhuman Endurance: Thanks to the Key, Chloe is physiologically angelic and thus having Celestial endurance. It's for this reason that Lucifer was able to bring Chloe to Hell as a living person. Furthermore, the necklace's endurance is the only reason Chloe got pregnant with Rory since humans and angels are biologically incompatible.
- Spirit Communication: Despite being mostly human, Chloe was still able to see and hear Dan's ghost thanks to her powers, something only Celestials are capable of.
Abilities[]
- Police Training: Since she's a cop, Chloe is highly trained in police work including guns and combat skills.
- Deductive Skills and Analysis: Chloe is an excellent detective and can uncover any clue in cases no matter how concealed they are. She's also very good at identifying suspects and can tell if they are guilty.
- Acting Skills: Before she became a cop, Chloe was an actress and starred in cop films.
Physical Appearance[]
Chloe is beautiful, blonde woman with blue eyes. She always dresses down and is very modest.
Trivia[]
- Originally, her last name was Dancer before it has changed into Decker.
- Unlike any other human, Chloe is immune to Lucifer's mojo that allows her to see who he truly is while for other humans, they have their desires reflected back from Lucifer.
- In her police department, she wouldn't leave any case just open and shut. She would find the right person responsible and she always trust her instincts to do the right thing. Before Lucifer she could not solve a case in a million years. When she was with Lucifer he can solve it one hand behind his back. Mostly Lucifer works outside the law and how they solve a lot of tough cases that Chloe couldn't solve herself.
- One of the reasons to be part of Police force is she doesn't like when people get away with something that they shouldn't.
- Around season 1 she was a minor antagonist and anti-hero in the series. She spent the first season trying to get rid of Lucifer out of her hair since he is always interfering in her police work and mostly solving them. She always treat him like a vigilante or outsider.
- Gradually, she grows to like working with him and uses his unexplained methods to find some answers to her cases. ("Lucifer, he does this. He notice some things that normal people are too normal to notice. But it has a tendency to pay off")
