"Welcome to Raw is Jericho!".
~ Jericho's Catchphrase

Chris Jericho is one of the top Superstars in the game. He was a highly popular wrestler during this time and had already made a major impact in WWE.

Personality[]

Jericho was at the peak of his heel persona, often referring to himself as the "King of the World" and "The Highlight of the Night." He was always convinced of his superiority over his opponents, believing that he was the best in every aspect—wrestling ability, charisma, and mic skills.

Likewise, Jericho is quite sarcastic, ans he often insulted his opponents with clever, sarcastic remarks, sometimes mocking their appearance, abilities, or intelligence. His famous catchphrase "Would you please... shut the hell up!" was a way to dismiss both fans and rivals.

Jericho’s natural charisma was a huge part of his personality. Whether as a face or a heel, he had an undeniable ability to captivate the audience, whether they were cheering for him or booing him. In Shut Your Mouth, his charisma rating is maxed out at 10/10, which represents his ability to "electrify" the crowd and keep them engaged.

Additionally, Jericho was portrayed as a highly intelligent and strategic wrestler, often outsmarting his opponents in the ring and in promos. His cunning nature made him a dangerous competitor, particularly in important matches.

Appearance[]

Jericho had long, blonde hair that extended past his shoulders. At this time, he often wore it either loose or tied back in a ponytail during matches. His long hair was one of his signature features during this period, giving him a rockstar-like image. He typically sported a goatee—a small, well-groomed beard around his chin. This facial hair added to his heel persona, giving him a cocky, confident look. Jericho had a lean but muscular build, standing at 6’0” and weighing around 231 lbs. He wasn’t the biggest guy on the roster, but his toned and athletic physique reflected his agility and technical wrestling skills.

Jericho wore long, form-fitting tights that often featured colorful designs. In Shut Your Mouth, his tights typically had flashy designs like flames, abstract patterns, or his Y2J logo. Common color schemes included combinations of black, purple, red, and silver. He wore black wrestling boots, which often had his name "Jericho" written on the side, adding a personalized touch to his gear.

Powers and Abilities[]

Chris Jericho is known for his superior technical wrestling skills. In the game, this is reflected through his ability to execute smooth grappling moves and complex chains of holds and reversals. His technical ability gives him an advantage over less-skilled opponents, especially when engaging in chain wrestling or attempting submission holds. Jericho’s speed and agility are standout attributes. He can quickly move around the ring, perform counters, and dodge attacks, giving him an advantage over slower, more powerful opponents.

One of Jericho’s most iconic abilities is his finishing move, the Walls of Jericho. This move is a modified Boston Crab submission hold, where Jericho wrenches his opponent’s back, applying extreme pressure to the lower body. It’s a deadly move in the game and often leads to victories if the opponent is weakened enough.

Weaknesses:[]

  • Strength: Jericho isn’t as strong as some of the larger wrestlers in the game, meaning his power moves won’t be as impactful as those of bigger characters like Brock Lesnar or Triple H.
  • Durability: While he’s resilient, Jericho can’t take as much damage as the heavier wrestlers, so players need to use his speed and technical skill to avoid taking too much punishment.

Trivia[]

  • By the time WWE SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth was released, Chris Jericho was still riding high as the first-ever WWE Undisputed Champion. He earned this title by defeating both The Rock and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in the same night at Vengeance 2001, a feat Jericho often bragged about in-game and in real life.
  • Jericho's character in the game reflects his "Y2J" persona, which he introduced upon his debut in WWE in 1999. This persona was known for its cocky attitude, flashy entrance, and witty promos, where Jericho would refer to himself as the "Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla" and constantly claim to be better than everyone else.
  • During this period, Jericho briefly referred to himself as the "King of the World". This egotistical nickname was in line with his persona as a man who believed he was superior to everyone else, both in and out of the ring. His confidence and swagger carried over into the game’s portrayal of his character.
  • Although it was not as publicly known as his feuds with other WWE Superstars, Jericho has spoken about occasional real-life tension with Vince McMahon, mainly due to Jericho’s outspokenness. However, this was not reflected in the game, where Jericho was often portrayed as being in alliance with McMahon’s on-screen persona when it benefited him.
