Christian is the main protagonist of the 2001 film, Moulin Rouge! and is the lover of Satine, and the writer of the play, Spectacular, Spectacular. He was portrayed by Ewan McGregor who portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Rodney Copperbottom in Robots, Valiant in Valiant, and Mark Renton in Trainspotting.
He was born in the late 1800's in England, much of his early life is unknown. At some point his relationship with his father went sour, likely due to his father believing art is evil and love is a waste of time and telling his son he would waste his life away.
After arriving to Paris, Christian meet with a man named Toulouse-Lautrec, who invited him to the Moulin Rouge. There Christian was mistaken for Harold Zidler's investor, the Duke, this is how he meet Satine for the first time. Eventually they fell in love and decided to elope. However, unknown to both of them, Satine was dying of tuberculosis and didn't have much time to live.
After performing all the songs in Moulin Rouge, Christian silently bids farewell to Satine before leaving. However, the tuberculosis catches up to Satine, who arising her neck upward, falls in Christian's arms. A dying Satine then professes her love for Christian and tells him to tell our story before losing her counsciousness. Christian, sad because he loved a lady who loves him, mourns Satine's demise and attends her funeral. A year later, a heartbroken Christian decides to write about his and Satine's story of love.
