Doctor Christine Palmer is the tritagonist of the 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel to the 2016 film Doctor Strange.
She is an alternate version of Earth-199999 Christine, being a scientist for the Baxter Foundation and an ally of the Illuminati. She would encounter Earth-199999 Doctor Strange and America Chavez when they reached her universe, and assisted them in their journey across the multiverse.
She was portrayed by Rachel McAdams, who portrays the character's mainstream counterpart, and also played Jessica Spencer in The Hot Chick and Lisa Reisert in Red Eye, and also voiced different versions of Palmer and a disguised Strange Supreme in the Disney+ animated series What If...?
Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known of this version of Christine Palmer's past, but she became acquainted with Doctor Stephen Strange, and the two soon started a romantic relationship. However, they broke up due to Strange's need to fix everything, and he later became a sorcerer for the Masters of the Mystic Arts. At some point during the Infinity War, Palmer became an ally of the Illuminati, which Strange was a founding member. When Stephen allowed Black Bolt to kill him after causing an incursion that cost countless lives, Palmer assisted the Illuminati in covering up his death by making the public believe that he died stopping Thanos.
After his death, Palmer became a scientist for the Baxter Foundation, under the employment of Illuminati member Reed Richards. She worked on multiversal research, and helped the Illuminati in dealing with threats while creating other devices. Despite knowing the truth of Strange's corruption from the Darkhold, Palmer found it hard to believe it so, and continued to mourn his loss.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness[]
After America Chavez and Earth-199999 Doctor Strange arrive on Earth-838 only to be captured by Baron Mordo, she traps them in glass and gives them bracelets to prevent them from using magic. Upon Scarlet Witch's arrival, she teams up with Chavez and Strange to acquire the book of Vishantie.
However, just as they reach it, Scarlet Witch arrives and Chavez creates a portal to escape. Christine and Strange get pulled in while Scarlet Witch captures Chavez to absorb her power. Palmer and Strange explore this alternate earth and find a version of Doctor Strange exists in his Sanctum Sanctorum. Christine waits outside while Strange of Earth-199999 asks him for his Dark hold. After that version of Strange is thrown out the window and into some spikes outside, she goes in to discover Strange is about to possess the body of Defender Strange. Strange is attacked and overrun by spirits so Christine reminds him that he is the Sorcerer Supreme while they are mere spirits.
Palmer watches in confusion while Strange battles the Scarlet Witch with Wong and Chavez until they eventually defeat her. Christine and Stephen then talk about their problems with their alternate love-interests and are able to move on before Chavez arrives and takes Christine back to her home world.
