Chunky Kong is a character from the Donkey Kong series.
He is the strongest and biggest member of the Kong family, but is somewhat meek. His first appearance was in Donkey Kong 64.
He is also said to be the cousin of Tiny Kong, Dixie Kong, and Donkey Kong and also the older brother of Kiddy Kong.
Chunky Kong is physically the strongest of the Kongs, which allows him to pick up and throw boulders, which none of the others can, but he's also the slowest and is quite cowardly.
He is voiced by Chris Sutherland.
Appearance[]
Chunky Kong is a large ape with brown fur, brown eyes, beige skin, small ears, and a giant underbite. He has four fingers on each hand and four toes on both feet. The hair/fur on his head is also combed forward. His attire consists of a small red cap worn backwards on his head, a blue vest, a white shirt and a black belt with a golden belt buckle. His blue vest has two large yellow buttons with orange rims on the front and a yellow and green checkered pattern on the back.
According to his statue's appearance in the DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza, his design has been slightly altered. He has a bump on his face that acts as a nose where his nostrils are and he has five digits on his hands and feet. His feet are also made to look more hand-like.
Equipment[]
In Donkey Kong 64, Chunky Kong can use a triangle on musical pads to make events occur or play it anywhere to produce shockwaves that harm enemies. He is also armed with a pineapple launcher that he can use to fire at enemies, pop green banana balloons, and activate pineapple switches.
Biography[]
Donkey Kong 64[]
Chunky starts off the game unavailable due to being kidnapped along with Diddy, Tiny and Lanky Kong by King K. Rool's Kremling Krew on his orders. Along with re-stealing Donkey Kong's Golden Banana hoard, K. Rool did this as a means to distract DK while he had his secret weapon, the Blast-O-Matic, repaired due to it being damaged when his mobile fortress crashed as a result of his minions' incompetence. K. Rool intended to use this weapon to outright destroy Donkey Kong Island to get revenge on the Kongs for his past defeats. Chunky is found hanging in a cage in Frantic Factory, the third level of the game, and is freed by Lanky when he uses the Simian Slam on a nearby switch that he can reach by using the Orangstand technique.
From this point onward, he is available to use at any time from the Tag Barrel and collects green bananas, green Banana Coins and green Blueprints. Like the rest of the Kongs, he can collect five Golden Bananas in every level and around Donkey Kong Island. He learns the Hunky Chunky, Primate Punch and Gorilla Gone techniques from Cranky's potions, gets the Pineapple Shooter from Funky and a triangle from Candy when he pays each of them enough Banana Coins. He also fights the second battle against the Dogadon (the first time being in Angry Aztec, where he is fought by Diddy) in Fungi Forest, the fifth level of the game, where he need to try to avoid his various fire-related attacks, throw TNT barrels at him, and eventually, use the Hunky Chunky technique to become large and repeatedly use the Primate Punch on him to defeat him before the platform they're standing on sinks into the lava. Like the rest of the Kongs, he is also available to use in the fight against King Kut-Out in Creepy Castle.
After the Kongs make it to Hideout Helm, stop the Blast-O-Matic in the time Snide provides them using the Blueprints they collected and confront King K. Rool in his airship, which was grounded by the freed K. Lumsy, they each take turns fighting him in a boxing arena. Chunky is the fifth and final Kong to battle him, during which he must use the Chunky pads to use the Gorilla Gone technique to make himself invisible, then use a Chunky Barrel in the middle to use the hunky Chunky technique to turn large, then time a Primate Punch just right when K. Rool comes charging towards him to knock him into the opposite corner of the arena, making him the only Kong to utilize all three of the techniques he learned from Cranky's potions in the final battle. After Chunky knocks out K. Rool with four punches and celebrates his victory by waving to the crowd, an enraged K. Rool rises up and tries to attack him while his back is turned. However, Candy and Funky get rid of him for good by devising a plan where the former distracts him with her looks while Funky uses a bazooka that shoots out a boot that kicks K. Rool out of the airship and off into the distance. In the aftermath, Chunky is seen celebrating with the rest of the Kongs by playing with Tiny, where he repeatedly tosses her into the air and catches her. However, he tosses her so high at one point that she doesn't come down, causing him to look around in confusion before noticing that she's landed on top of a nearby cliff and is posing confidently. He is then seen riding on top of K. Lumsy with most of the other Kongs as he floats on the water into the sunset.
