Ciaphas Cain is the main protagonist from the series of books based on the miniature wargame Warhammer 40,000.
He was a commissar of the Imperium of Man's army and one of the very few characters who managed to reach the age of retirement.
He is hailed as the "Hero of the Imperium" due to his success in many missions and battles.
Though, most of the Imperium is unaware that his triumphs came mostly through sheer luck and, as a quite cowardly individual, he would much rather avoid being in battle(although, unlike other commissars, he doesn't sacrifice his own men unless it ensured his survival or victory), but he kept getting involved in increasingly dangerous missions.
Around the age of 200, Cain retired from military service and became a professor at a schola progenium.
It is unknown if he's really the lucky coward he claims to be or if he's actually a very skilled military leader.
