Claire better known by her alias Opal is the main protagonist of the Adult Swim short OPAL made by Jack Stauber.
She is a young girl who investigates into a creepy looking house across the street to find whoever is crying, and faces the persons miserable family.
Appearance[]
Claire is a small , scrawny young girl who has blonde pigtails, wears a red dress. Has big black eyes and a pink nose.
Personality[]
Claire doesn't speak at all so her personality is defined by her actions throughout the story, she is shown to be rather kind as she tries to help solve her family's problems to help them get back on track in their life. Such as hiding her grandfathers cigarettes to help with his physical health, and calling 911 when her father was attacked by her mother. Despite treating her family decent they don't treat her the same way. All of the members in her family abuse her in some way, her grandfather has her get cigarettes for him so he can slowly kill himself she acts as his eyes. Her dad a narcissistic man child who only ever thinks about himself, he isolated himself in a reflection chamber room to improve on his appearance to meet the criteria of society's beauty standards, the father uses Claire to insult and mock her appearance to feed his massive ego and look better in comparison. Her mother a alcoholic, mentally ill, and drugged woman who uses her daughter as moral support for a past accident that had happened to her, she doesn't really care about Claire. It is shown that she does want to have a little girl to take care of but much like the other adults in Claire's life they only think about themselves instead of anyone else's problems.
She often isolates her self from her family members because she is terrified of them, she uses escapism as a way to cope with the abuse and neglect she is facing by looking at a billboard sign of Opal's burgers which depicts a happy, normal looking family on the advertisement. Wishing that she could live that life just like the girl on the billboard.
Biography[]
The short opens up with a young girl named Opal being greeted by her family members where they sing "We See You, Opal!" telling the girl her troubles are a mile away, she see's a odd looking home in the distance. Her curiosity gets the better of her she decides to adventure into the Forbidden home because she hears what sounds like a little girl crying, she enters the house where she sees a old man watching TV. The blind old man attacks the girl by mistaking her for a girl named Claire. She travels upstairs running away from the man until she is stopped by a man but the man does not see her as he is blinded by mirrors, after the man's song about how he was rejected by society the blind grandfather comes up. Opal runs away breaking one of the man's mirrors she arrives at the last room before the attic where her leg is grabbed by a drug-abused mother. She frees herself from the lady's grasp making it to the attic where she finds no one crying in the attic she looks outside a window seeing a advertisement for Opal's burgers, she screams in terror after realizing she is the abused Claire and see was the one that was actually crying. She goes back into her escape world with her family members banging on the door.

- Jack did the vocals for Claire's screaming, he also voiced every other character in the short.
- Unlike everyone else in the short Claire does not speak at all, the only time she is heard speaking is the scream she makes at the end of the story and the scream when she heard the bell.
- Many fans have commonly connected the concept of Cheeseburger Family, a music video made by Jack Stauber. To OPAL with the concept of a loving family and cheeseburger's being the desires of Claire in the film, in the music video for Cheeseburger Family there was a scene where the cheeseburger kid is looking out the window has been pointed out as being similar to the scene in OPAL where Claire sees the advertisement of Opal's Burgers.
