Clara Drosselmayer, also known as The Sugar Plum Princess, is the main protagonist in the 2001 direct-to-DVD animated Barbie film, Barbie in the Nutcracker. She’s a Sugar Plum fairy who’s the older sister of Tommy, the granddaughter of Grandfather Drosselmayer and the niece of Elizabeth Drosselmayer. She’s also Prince Eric's love interest.
She’s played by Barbie Roberts and voiced by Kelly Sheridan who also voiced Starlight Glimmer. In the Japanese dub from the movie, she is voiced by Ryoka Yuzuki, who also voiced Rapunzel, Princess Odette, Princess Anneliese and Queen Erika.
History[]
When her parents died, Clara and her younger brother, Tommy, were very young and they became orphans, they were being raised by their strict grandfather Drosselmayer, living with him in his mansion. Many years later, Clara is a teenage girl as she originally embarks the journey with her Aunt Elizabeth, but her grandfather refused and wanted her to stay home with her brother. During Christmas Eve, Clara receives a Christmas gift, the Nutcracker doll, who’s been given to her by Aunt Elizabeth. She discovered that Tommy wanted to play with Nutcracker, trying to take it away from her in which he accidentally breaks the Nutcracker’s arm. Seeing Clara upset, Tommy apologizes to her but, Clara scolds her brother for ruining her present.
She starts fixing the Nutcracker's arm and now sleeping with him on the sofa. After her grandfather, brother and aunt went to bed, Clara continues to sleep, but that which the Nutcracker lie down besides her and wrapped in her arms. When midnight comes, what happening to this, theres magic expand in the parlor therefore, a portal from the mystical world, Parthenia, opening in the mouse hole, as a result causing Clara, who hears it has been woken up by it. The Nutcracker comes to life before he joined the fight and that the owl was top in the clock, which belonging to grandfather Drosselmayer.
All armies of the mouses appear in the parlor, they started to the battles, speed up against the Nutcracker. This situation is terrible, the Nutcracker listening to the mice brawl, which he decided to taking his sword, and going to struggle with them. Eventually, Clara wakes up, when she saw all the mouses troops are of the fierce battle was dread such having noticed that the Nutcracker isn’t her side, because he actually moving to actions. Much likes a dreams, she also see the mouse sit upon sofa eating, topple him down. Meantime, the Nutcracker still his wars attacked the mouses troops and later meets the Mouse King, an mainly ruler of Parthenia.
He hold his sword to deal with him until that carry on the glories, which Clara coming to supporting the Nutcracker, she intending using a vase traps the Mouse King, much to her failed. Upon the mouse reduce her into small with his magic scepter, Clara should knows him being too vicious and then the Nutcracker defending her. Often to fights the Mouse King and his armies, he evaded their attack, and help find a place to climbing up, which was Clara wants. The Mouse King preparing to kill the Nutcracker, Clara must throwing her shoe at the mouse, knocked him stunned. His armies taking their king back to the kingdom, Clara sweep falling and bumps to the Nutcracker.
She discusses with him about that the Sugar Plum Princess can be reverse the Mouse King's shrink spell on her, and by also realizing that he’s a victim of the mouse's magic (a latter isn’t really the Nutcracker doll). When its happened, the owl is actually moving it, she flying away from the top of clock, sweep down to Clara and the Nutcracker, which able to helps them. The owl tells Clara that she must finding the Sugar Plum Princess of Parthenia, on an island across the Sea of Storms. By the reason, Clara don't having ability to go, due to she had no choice if she thinks removing the evil spell of the Mouse King. Even though she ever dislike to traveling.
However, the owl give Clara a locket from a Ballerina adorn, which was her late mother gives her when she was an child. She learned to opening and discovering the Sugar Plum Princess, but returning to home with her normal size. Thanks to the owl, Clara following the Nutcracker to the mouse hole as she will putting on locket. Upon their arriving in Parthenia, Clara and the Nutcracker across the ice cave, which they sees the most snow fairies shared dancing. She later looks at them a party and dance, but with it the fairies opened an gate from the ice cave to the land of Parthenia. Through a trips, Clara and the Nutcracker agree to sought the Sugar Plum Princess, the Mouse King's minion, Pimm, overhearing to them.
He flying into the royal castle had report the king, so yet, they never be heard before. Visiting in the Gingerbread Village, Clara and the Nutcracker then meets the two kids, Gingerbread Boy and Peppermint Girl, while they about that the Mouse King's armies dislikes to everything and purpose overthrow many people of the village. Reminiscent of the past, Prince Eric is a son of the king, who rules by year before the Mouse King conquering, sabotaging the village and seizing his power to become more ambitions. Aftermaths, the king passing away as he left his throne and golden scepter to his advisor, the Mouse King.
Eric originally to be a king, which lead himself to be afraid and ended up transforming into the Nutcracker by the mouse. The Mouse King taking over Parthenia and replacing Eric's father as the ruler. The four heroes managing to find a safe place to stayed. Marzipan, a horse who could hanging out with Clara and her friends, seeing that the Mouse King's armies taking away things from the Gingerbread Village. Mariposa is escaped, the armies noticing that Clara and the other people, which they trying to pursue them. In fact, Clara told the group to following her into the forest, which they are saving by people in the Treetop Village, and the armies can't find them.
Finally, Clara and the Nutcracker are encounter to the two top villagers, Captain Candy and Major Mint. They took questions by set up to finding the Sugar Plum Princess, and be fine is for took part of the other trips. When the Mouse King punishing his soldiers for failing to capturing the Nutcracker, he read the book for information about the Sugar Plum Princess was be located, but now to creating a rock giant to destroying him. Still be anger, the king will sending Pimm to going with the giant, making them clash the Nutcracker. At the night, Gingerbread Boy and Peppermint Girl are sleeping as they staying in the Treetop Village for their own safety.
Clara said goodnight to them and leaving it, she went to outside and speaking with the Nutcracker upon their sitting on the tree. Despite the ways, Clara realizing that he is Prince Eric, he cannot to be a prince as his issues thinks a less of him. As well as, he wants to making all them of Parthenia very happy. In the next day, Clara and the group set off on their expedition, which lead by Major. They did to find the princess, so much to having arranging in all the missions. Crossing a few step stones, Major Mint cross and bump Captain Candy off. When she sees the Nutcracker saving Captain and help him up, much to shocked.
For time to time, Clara crossing together with the Captain and the Nutcracker, they also arriving on Sea of Storms. Upon lose to his own bag, Captain Candy making a ship with Major Mint, which Clara and Nutcracker finding more of the supplies at soon, they also meet the Flower fairies anytime. The fairies help the pair to sought the foods and that restoring their home, a rock giant show up to crushed them, causing the ship to be wrecking. The snow fairies comes to helps everybody freezing of the sea, Clara and the group escaping, and that riding Marzipan's carriage to moved on, without danger. They begins to crossing the frozen sea, the rock giant regularly to following them.
The Nutcracker break the ice which using his sword, the giant eventually to being defeated, which fall into sea and possibly expiry. The Mouse King later forcing Pimm to make a new trap, he did not forgiven the Nutcracker, under his fury. Where Clara, Captain Candy, the Nutcracker, and Major Mint location to the Sugar Plum Princess's island, they sees that the princess's castle is fake of foundation. After entered the false castle, the Nutcracker along with the Major and Captain are accidentally to getting a trap, which they being sealing into the cage and taken to the Mouse King's kingdom. As Clara dismay, she leaves by thought of them captured, and keeps good for herself, to helped them.
Hopefully, when the flower fairies arrived to meet Clara, they carried a huge swing for her. She eventually visiting to the Palace of Sweets with her flying seat, but the fairies quick left to encourage the Parthenians to against the Mouse King. While Pimm decide to informing the Mouse King, which making him to be enrage, as the peasants brought to the palace and taught a lesson. Upon arrived in the dungeon, Clara distracted the guards and appearing to had empty. She realizing there is an invisible wall that was hidden of the Nutcracker, Captain Candy, and Major Mint. However, Clara pick up a log to destroying the wall and save them. They leaving from dungeon and went to the courtyard.
After sets a terror, the Mouse King then turning all peasants into stone statues with his scepter. Due to his malevolent heart, he later facing the Nutcracker, and knocking him down. Clara hurry to rescue the Nutcracker, she calling the Mouse King a coward, much to their protests. Instead, the Mouse King tries to shrunk Clara again, which eventually to be defeated as the Nutcracker using his sword to divert the spell back into him. Upon his scepter was gone, the Mouse King is reduce and jumped into sewers. Clara kissing the Nutcracker, makes him turning back into Prince Eric, which lead Major Mint and Captain Candy shocked.
However, after Clara was transformation, she revealed herself as the Sugar Plum Princess. Eric tell her that was right as she broken the mouse's spells and saving everyone all the times. The Mouse King's dark magic was disappearing, the peasants are turning back to their normal, the bonfire is replaced by a fountain, and they joined the celebration to danced. Clara danced with the prince, she wants to be his queen and stay in Parthenia before returning to her home. She kissed Eric again which the peasants cheered. Unluckily, the Mouse King is back as he riding on Pimm, snatched Clara's locket off her neck and opened it.
They later knocked out of the sky by a snowball, which is throwing by Peppermint Girl. Clara teleporting her back home, and Eric leaving her very disappointment. Upon her returned, Clara wake up when she’s sleeping on the sofa, seeing that the Nutcracker is not here. She managing to finds him and her grandfather is back to makes about dismissed the story as her fantasy. Also, her brother was returning, Clara told him that the Nutcracker is ready to be a king. Aunt Elizabeth returning with a young man, who’s actually Eric. She introduced to Clara, and Eric making his demands to asked her. By the end, he gives Clara a locket and they danced together.
