~ Miles "Tails Prower cheering for Classic Sonic. |
Sonic the Hedgehog, commonly known as Classic Sonic, is the titular main protagonist of the classic era of the franchise of the same name.
He is Sonic's younger self from his classic years who stops Dr. Eggman/Robotnik from conquering the world with the chaos emeralds. He also occasionally time-travels to his older self's time to stop Dr. Eggman. He is the arch-nemesis of Classic Eggman.
He was voiced by Takeshi Kusao in Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car, and SegaSonic the Hedgehog.
History[]
SegaSonic The Hedgehog[]
Sonic the Hedgehog, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel are captured by the evil Dr. Eggman, but escape and stop his evil plans.
Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)[]
Sonic confronts Dr. Eggman once again and beats him.
Sonic CD[]
Sonic comes across the Never Lake where Little Planet was chained to. Sonic figured that Little Planet shows up over Never Lake only once a year. Sonic realized that Classic Eggman has chained Little Planet to a mountain. But before he could go and kick some butt, Classic Amy showed up to know that he would be the hero of her dreams, after reading tarot cards. Sonic agreed that she promised that she'll follow him wherever he goes. Thanks to time travel, Classic Sonic was able to rescue Classic Amy from Classic Metal Sonic and Classic Eggman in Stardust Speedway, and hunt down all the Time Stones before Classic Eggman could steal one.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]
Sonic first meets Tails on Westside Island, while saving him from bullies. After a very long journey, they arrive at Dr. Eggman's Wing Fortress with the help of Tails piloting the Tornado (their personal biplane). The Tornado is shot down and temporarily out of service, leaving Sonic alone on the Wing Fortress. Eggman escapes into space via one of his personal space shuttles, but Sonic grabs onto it with the help of Tails and a repaired Tornado.
The shuttle reaches the evil doctor's Death Egg, with Sonic sneaking on board. Unfortunately, Eggman anticipated Sonic's arrival, as he forced him to fight Mecha Sonic, which was a robotic version of Sonic himself. Sonic defeats the robot and chases down Eggman, who then pilots a massive Death Egg Robot. Sonic once again defeats Eggman, putting a stop to his evil Death Egg scheme. The Death Egg self-destructs, but Sonic escapes just in time.
As Sonic falls, Tails catches him in the Tornado. If all the Chaos Emeralds were collected, Sonic will fly alongside the plane in his hyper form.
Sonic Generations[]
Classic Sonic was first seen running across Green Hill in his own time, until witnessing a strange portal.
He and Classic Tails eventually meet their older counterparts, and the four try to piece together everything that happened concerning the Time Eater and the White Space that they, and their friends are in.
After revisiting past levels, fighting rivals/bosses, saving the rest of their friends, and collecting the Chaos Emeralds, both the Classic and Modern Sonic and Tails encountered the two Eggman's and with the power of the emeralds and the encouragement from their friends, they were able to transform into Super Sonics and defeat not only the Eggman's, but the Time Eater as well, effectively restoring time and returning back to where Sonic's birthday was held. Shortly Classic Sonic and Tails returned to their time, where Sonic tells him that his future is going to be great for him to enjoy, and their Modern friends waved them goodbye.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles[]
Sonic, in his super form, hopped off the Tornado to track down Eggman in Angel Island, but was ambushed by Knuckles, who was told that Sonic may steal the seven Chaos Emeralds, which Knuckles stole from Sonic after knocking them out of him and hid in the Special Stages. Although Knuckles thought Sonic was after the Master Emerald, Sonic believes Eggman is after it, which Knuckles finds out for himself when he witnesses Eggman steal it right in front of him. Knuckles befriended Sonic and Tails, and together, they defeated Eggman and a new Mecha Sonic and took back the Master Emerald. While Sonic and Tails departed, Knuckles waved goodbye, and Angel Island is saved.
Sonic Mania[]
After saving Angel Island, however, he and Classic Tails found something strange in the island again. They were investigating five Eggman robots finding a strange stone called, the Phantom Ruby. Classic Knuckles was already there when the ruby sent Sonic and Tails to Green Hill, meeting the Hard-Boiled Heavies, which Eggman was having trouble controlling. Together Sonic, Tails and Knuckles’ goals are to track down, and defeat all the Hard-Boiled Heavies, find the truth about the Phantom Ruby, protect the Master Emerald, and stop Classic Eggman.
With the seven Chaos Emeralds in hand, after fighting the Phantom Egg, before Knuckles and Tails could escape The Phantom Ruby teleports Sonic, Eggman and the Heavy King, now in the new form of the Phantom King, someplace outside Little Planet called the Egg Reverie. Harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic turns into Super Sonic and battles the squabbling Eggman and Phantom King. Just as Sonic delivered his last target, Eggman, the final blow, the Chaos Emeralds began interacting with the Phantom Ruby, which caused him to be taken through a wormhole back into the future dimension, while Tails and Knuckles watch as Little Planet is freed from Eggman's control.
Sonic Forces[]
In the aftermath of the Phantom Ruby incident, Classic Sonic is warped alongside the Phantom Ruby to the future during "The War to Take Back the Planet", where he attacks a Replica of Chaos and saves Modern Tails, who is pleased to see him. After meeting a Customized Avatar, Classic Sonic and his future counterpart were reunited. "It's been generations since I've seen you." said Modern Sonic. Classic Sonic and Modern Tails entered the Chemical Plant to find a data base, and that's where they got analysis and data of the Phantom Ruby. Modern Tails was worried that Classic Sonic won't be in the future world anymore after the War. If the Phantom Ruby is gone, Classic Sonic will return to his own time.
Amy was excited about having two Sonics. After destroying the Death Egg, He and his Modern friends with E-123 Omega joined in, fought millions of Replicas and Infinite, and stopped the sun from falling in the sky. After defeating Eggman who's over clocking the Phantom Ruby, the Ruby's finally been destroyed in the future. Classic Sonic starts to fade away back into his own time. Before Everyone said goodbye to him, "One more last Fist Bump!" After Classic Sonic faded away, Tails felt a little sad, but happy he'll miss him. "Cheer up, Tails." said Sonic. "I'm sure we'll run into him again."
Sonic Mania Plus[]
After returning from "The War to Take Back the World", Classic Sonic returns and reunites with Classic Tails and Knuckles only to find the Heavy Magician using the Phantom Ruby to revive all of the Hard-Boiled Heavies, who were previously destroyed before. Classic Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and his old friends Ray and Mighty then set off to fight the Hard-Boiled Heavies once more.
Sonic R[]
Sonic competes in races to see who is the fastest.
Sonic the Fighters[]
Sonic and others went out to seek for Eggman but apparently they want to seek them first and each one of them haves an emerald, after Sonic defeats some of the characters, he encounters himself as a gray-like copy also known as Clone Fighter, after Sonic defeats the clone, he goes to Eggman's location where he finds metal sonic and fights him, after that he gets shocked that the place is gonna explode but while that happens he faces off Eggman (while being super)
Sonic Superstars[]
Sonic and his friends stop Dr. Eggman, Fang and a new enemy Trip.
Other Media[]
Sonic Mania Adventures[]
Shortly after the second part of the Phantom Ruby incident, Classic Sonic returns to Angel Island only to find out that while he was gone, Classic Eggman dug up all across the entire island in search of the Chaos Emeralds, with the final two hidden in plain sight. Classic Sonic eventually teams up with Classic Tails and Knuckles, as well as Classic Ray and Mighty to stop Classic Eggman and Metal Sonic from finding the last two Chaos Emeralds. After a heated battle with the empowered Classic Metal Sonic and Eggman, peace was restored to Angel Island.
Personality[]
Classic Sonic's personality is the same as his future counterpart. The only difference is that Classic Sonic is apparently silent, which is a reference to the classic games having no voice acting, although it is not completely clear if he is silent as he did speak in the early games.
Appearance[]
Classic Sonic is a short and stubby anthropomorphic hedgehog with blue fur that covers most of his body, and peach skin that covers his arms, muzzle, insides of his ears and front torso. He has small, triangular ears on top of his head, has a round head, six quills on the back of his head, two spines protruding from his back behind his shoulders, and a short tail. For attire, Sonic wears red boots with a white strap, cuff and gold buckle each; and a pair of white gloves with sock-like cuffs on the hands. and an equally round torso, and black eyes.

Trivia[]
- Classic Sonic doesn't speak at all in the games in reference to every Sonic game until Sonic Adventure lacking voice acting, though he did speak in the early Japan exclusive Sonic games like Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car, Sonic CD (when he says "I’m outta here!" and jumps off the screen making it Game Over when the player leaves him idle for 3 minutes), and the SegaSonic the Hedgehog, and the opening cutscene of Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis/Mega Drive version). And according to an interview with Aaron Webber, he claimed that if anyone were to voice Classic Sonic in Sonic Generations, it would be Jaleel White (who voiced Sonic the Hedgehog in three of the 1990s TV shows which count as all from DiC Entertainment), Aaron mentioned that he grew up with the classic cartoons of Sonic like Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and he thought Jaleel White did a fantastic job, this apparently means voicing was intended for the character, but was scrapped.
- However, Jaleel White, said that he was not contacted to voice the character presumably because the voice acting was already dropped.
- While Classic Tails and Classic Dr. Eggman do however talk without any hesitation, the reason for his lack of speaking is yet unexplained, it’s unknown if he is actually mute or possibly unwilling to talk for some reason as he did speak in the said early arcade games which are believed to be canon. This includes Sonic CD (which is of course canon) when he says "I’m outta here!" and jumps off the screen making it Game Over when the player leaves him idle for 3 minutes. He also speaks in the IDW comics.
- When saving Sonic's friends, most of them didn't initially recognize the difference between his classic and modern form.
- Modern Amy: Wow, you look younger every day. What's your secret?
- Modern Knuckles: Hey, did you gain weight?
- Cream: Hey, is it me, or did you get a new haircut?
- Rouge: Come to think of it, You're nothing like the Sonic I've seen before.
- Blaze: By the way, you seem to look less... Spiky!
- Charmy: Hey, you look different.
- It was believed for a time that Classic Sonic was an alternate dimension version of his modern counterpart, but Ian Flynn (on his BumbleKasts) and TailsTube #4 explained that the Classic timeline and the Modern timeline are the same timeline, signifying that Classic Sonic is indeed Sonic in his younger years.
- Despite Classic Sonic's last known meeting being in Sonic Forces, Modern Sonic said that he is sure they will run into him again, after he vanishes and returns to his time at the ending scene, possibly implying he could return to meet them again in a future game.
- His pose pointing his finger and facing to the viewer albeit mirrored, may be referencing his profile seen on the American box art of Sonic the Hedgehog (1991).
- It is also speculated that Classic Sonics design (in Sonic Generations) was in addition partially based his profile one seen on the western covers due to his swifting ears and a glabella line in between his frowning conjoined eyes and visible brow ridges.
