Claudia is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Lord Viren) of the 2018 Netfilx animated fantasy series, The Dragon Prince.
She is the daughter of Viren and Lissa, and the younger sister of Soren. She is also a dark mage, who later would join her father in his goals to start a war against Xadia, due to her loyalty towards Viren. While she is an antagonist, she isn't exactly evil and does have noble intentions behind her actions.
She is voiced by Racquel Belmonte.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
Claudia was born as the youngest and only daughter of Viren and Lissa and one of their two children. During her childhood, she would see her parents arguing all the time until one day, her brother Soren got extremely sick and saw that her father used dark magic to save him.
Her mother, disgusted by Viren's use of dark magic, decided to leave him and Soren, and gave Claudia the choice on wheter she would go with her or stay with her father and Soren. Claudia would choose the latter, and made a promise to her mother that she would take care of Soren no matter what.
One day during her, one of Katolis' baker Barius' cat named Biscuts died, with Claudia, Soren, and presumably Barius, made a small for the cat, and Claudia made her first dark magic spell by creating an illusion of Biscuts, and it works, but Soren finds out about this and threatened to tell their father because she made the spell without Viren's permision, and when Claudia tried to convince him that her using dark magic to bring Biscuits back, but Soren refused to believe it. Despite this, came to find the illusion of the cat to be beutiful, with Claudia liking it and petting "Biscuits", telling Soren that dark magic could do anything.
Over the next years, she would become a dark magic user, causing her to receive more love and attention than Soren, since the older brother would not learn magic and spended his time training to be a swordsman. Callum, the stepson of King Harrow, would start to get a crush towards her.
One day, Viren's mentor Kpp'Ar went missing while preparing a suprise for Claudia and Soren in his puzzle house, so they went there to see what it was (although more reluctantly on Soren's part) and when they found a stone giant in one of the puzzle house's rooms, which lead to them running away and leaving the house.
However, the next day, Claudia met with Callum, who told her that she should express her sadness over her mother leaving her so she could go through it and get better, but Claudia refused to listened and instead remembered that the stone giant seemed sad, and went back to the puzzle house against her brother's wishes.
There, Claudia was able to talk with the stone giant and after understanding Kpp'Ar chained him in his room, Claudia decided to free him. The stone giant whose name was Kruha, told her that he was guarding a map, which according to him, could only be seen by those with a pure heart, which made Kpp'Ar unable to see what was on it so he chained Kruha up to see if he had anything useful. However, before his disappearance, Kpp'Ar had a change of heart and planned on freeing Kruha, although he went missing before he could do it.
After helping Kruha escape from the house, Claudia tried to give Kruha his map, but he refused and told her she earned it. Claudia, however, believed she wouldn't be able to see it as she believed she didn't have a pure heart due to her making mistakes recently with magic that resulted in people getting angry at her. After Claudia started crying, Kruha comforted her and assured she would be able to see it because of how kind she was to him for not seeing him as a monster but as an individual, and said goodbye to Claudia while telling her they would meet again one day.
Back at the castle next mourning, Claudia went to see if she was able to see the map, but Viren appeared to apologize for not spending much time with Claudia and her brother after their mother left, while also telling her that he would allow her to do magic in one of the rooms in his dungeon. After the two hug each other, Viren notices the map, but due to being unable to see anything, he just tells Claudia not to use it because the paper was of great quality, before leaving to talk to Soren. Claudia then went to see the map, which revealed to her the location of a unicorn.
Years later when Queen Sarai was killed by Avizandum, Claudia hunted down a unicorn and took its horn, which would be used by Viren to make a magic spell capable of killing Avizandum. After the dragon was killed, Viren captured his egg and hid in his dungeon, with Claudia being aware of this but deciding not to do anything about it because she believed her father was doing it for the good of humanity.
The Dragon Prince[]
After Callum and Ezran found out that the Dragon Prince was alive and had been captured by Viren when they were trying to escape from Rayla, Claudia would try to convince them to give her the egg and get away from Rayla, and when they refused, Claudia tried to knock them out, although Callum stops her and put chackles on her hands to make sure she wouldn't use magic spells.
Claudia would then help her father in getting the throne of Katolis after King Harrow's death because of moonshadow assassins, and alongside her brother, tried to capture Callum and Ezran as well as kill Rayla to make sure they wouldn't get to Xadia and end the war between humans, dragons, and elves.
During this period of time, Soren got heavily injured, causing her to feel like she failed her promise to her mother, and would later do anything to heal Soren, with her using the blood of a dear and presumably killing it in order to do it. Claudia would then assist her father in usurpating the throne of Katolis after Ezran became king.
After Viren waged war against Xadia, Claudia would help him with his goals, and while she was reluctant to leave Soren, she chose to be with her father instead of him, even though she saw that Viren was corrupted by magic and become a horrible person.
During the battle of the Storm Spire, Claudia woulr help Viren in the fight and also protect him and other members of Viren's army, after the battle was over and Viren's army was defeated, she decided to make a fake version of Viren to distract most of her enemies so Viren could sneak into the Storm Spire and kill Azymondias and use his power, although he failed and Viren died.
For the next 2 years Claudia would try to heal Viren, and only became successful after that time through the collection of several artifacts, which Claudia had to do things Claudia never thought she would be capable of. After Viren was revived, Claudia told Viren that he only had 30 days to live if they didn't free Aaravos until that time, and that the creature Aaravos' familiar was metamorphosing in a cocoon would guide them to Aaravos' prison. Claudia, despite her father's hatred towards elves, believed he would like to find out that she had a boyfriend who is one, a Earth Blood elf named Terrestrius or Terry for short, and would introduce him shortly after Viren was revived.
She would then go to the Storm Spire with Viren and Terry so they could get Viren's staff. However, Viren decided to wait until Claudia and Terry got the staff, as he was afraid of climbing the Storm Spire as he still had memories of his death.
After Claudia was able to get the staff, Ibis appeared and took it from her, with the plan to destroy the staff. The two then have a fight, where Claudia accidentaly stabs herself in her left leg, causing her to have to crawl to her staff. While she was crawling to get the staff, Ibis understood she was too dangerous to be kept alive and tried to kill her, only for Terry to appear and kill Ibis and save Claudia.
They would then go back to the cave where Aaravos' familiar was metamorphosing and that night, Terry would talk to Viren about how he was live with the actions he did for his family, since he was crying over having killing Ibis. Claudia would then lauch spells and make a creature come out of the cocoon, which Claudia would call Sir Sparklepuff.
They would then go to Umber Tor to find Rex Igneous, as he had the map to the prison Aaravos was in. While going there, Claudia finds Soren, and the two have a fight, with Soren tying Claudia to a tree so she wouldn't escape. The two would then talk about Aaravos, with Soren telling Claudia that he was manipulating her, but Claudia told Soren that his elf and dragon friends were doing the same, as elves and dragons have always done nothing to help humans in their worse moments, unlike Aaravos who saw potential in them.
Terry would then appear and free Claudia and tie Soren in roots. Claudia would then go to Rex Igneous' cave and put Team Zym and Rex sleeping with a spell. Claudia and Terry would try to create a map through the teeth of Rex Igneous, since he had the map to Aaravos' prison carved in his teeth. However, Rayla woke Rex by stabbing him in his left paw, causing the cave to colapse.
While Terry and Claudia were escaping, Rayla holded Terry hostage, but Claudia showed her the coins that had the coins of Runaan and Rayla's parents, and threw them to lava, causing Rayla to release Terry to save them, only for it to be revealed that Claudia threw rocks and that Claudia still had the coins. However, Terry told her that what she did to Rayla was wrong, causing Claudia to give Rayla the coins with her loved ones' souls and then leaving.
After leaving Umber Tor and going back to their camp, Viren fel unconscious, and while Terry stayed with Viren, Claudia went to a pond where she cleaned her face. After this, she saw her face and how over the two years she spent trying to revive her father, she got older, with her remarking that even her eyes looked that way. Claudia then remembered the actions she did over the two years she spent reviving her father, causing her to splash away her reflection.
When Claudia saw Aaravos' homunculus and noticed it was mimicking her, Claudia made several movements that it repeated, and then asked it about why they needed it anymore, to which it didn't listen. She then tried to convince it to allow her to speak with Aaravos, but it failed. Claudia then told her reflection and came to believe that Aaravos left her, like her father, Soren, and her mother.
After stopping herself from mentioning her mother, Claudia remebered the day she left her, causing her to start crying. Claudia then noticed that the homonculous was still with her even after what had happened, and when she told it that it wasn't such bad company, the homunculus showed her a snail with skin made of jewels. Claudia then killed said snail and used it for a dark magic spell, which caused her face to change, making her eyes brighter and her face fuller.
Clauida then said to herself that she was stronger than anyone thought she was, and that her father and Aaravos were aware of that. After trying to touch the homunculus on its shoulder, she noticed how it acted like a child, who looked on her with bright and luminous eyes. A few days after this, Claudia and Terry would travel with an unconsious Viren throught Xadia so they could get to Aaaravos' prison at the Sea of the Castout.
During this, a dragon would constantly fly above them, which greatly annoyed Claudia. After the dragon found their location, Claudia fought the dragon and nearly killed it, but decided not to after seeing that it was afraid of her, which she saw as a proof of her superiority over the dragon. At the Sea of the Castout Claudia would turn herself into a combination of a human and an octopus using dark magic so she could breathe underwater.
There, Claudia found Callum and Ezran, and while she initially tried to manipulate them into helping her, after understanding that Ezran was aware of where Aaravos' prison was yet wouldn't tell her, Claudia attacked him and threatened Ezran. However, Rayla appeared and fought against Claudia as well, and during the fight, Rayla cut off one of her tentacles, which was revealed to be her left leg, before Callum opened her potion vile and caused it to desipate through the water, causing Claudia to turn back to normal and force her to go back to the surface. That night, Claudia, believing she had lost her father due to it being the last day before the 30 day spell expired, started crying on Terry's chest.
Skills[]
Claudia is a powerful mage who can always be trusted to carry out a mission. She is also very proficient at Dark Magic, a type of magic that takes the lives of living creatures and turns it into spells. At the end of season 3, she has used necromancy to resurrect her father after he died, and the cost for it is still unknown, but it's possible that she sacrificed another person for it.
Personality[]
Claudia is a cheerful, snarky, and playful individual who loves her family deeply, as seen when she sacrificed an innocent dear and nearly went into unconsciousness while using a spell just to save Soren, and is extremely loyal to her father, despite how bad of a person he is. Claudia also desires love and acceptance from her father since she grew to have abandonment issues due to her depressing past.
Claudia is later revealed to not care about other animals and creatures, killing them to use dark magic, and even admits that she likes it when Callum said that there was no way for a human to use magic on their own, with Claudia saying that there was always dark magic. Her love for her father would grow to not caring much about the heinous acts he did, such as waging war on Xadia.
Despite all of this, Claudia is not that evil, as she only does the things she does because she truly wants to make sure that her family doesn't fall apart, and begged for Soren not to make her choose over him and Viren just like she had to when she was a child with her parents. Claudia also admits to have done things that she never believed she would be capable of doing so she could revive Viren, which she thought were so awful that she started crying while telling that she did them to bring Viren back to life.
Claudia also loves Terry and makes jokes with him multiple times. However, Claudia admits that she believed that the dragon and elf friends Soren had were just manipulating him because humans always were seen as inferior, and that Aaravos was the only one to see potential in them. She doesn't hold this against Terry, whom she knows suffered just as much for his choice of identity from the other elves. Claudia would grow to become careless of the people she hurt, and Terry notes she has become more heartless than when he first met her because of dark magic, and was shocked by how she used the coins where the souls of Rayla's parents and Runaan were in to force Rayla to free Terry, although she gave their coins to Rayla after Terry confronted her over it.
After two years of doing unspeakable things to prepare for Viren's revival, Claudia suffered trauma that haunts her. When Viren decided to just enjoy his limited revival time with her to make up for their lack of happy memories, Claudia slapped her father; stating that she had come too far to just stop the plan to revive him permanently. Showing Claudia wants any action that haunts her to be worth the guilt.
When her father fell unconscious after escaping Umber Tor, Claudia gained confidence and started to believe that she was stronger than what people around her thought, and that unlike her mother or Soren, her father and Aaravos were aware of it. Claudia also came to see Aaravos' homunculus like a child, who was afraid of someone more powerful than them.
After coming to terms with her father being horrified by everything she's done over bringing him back and that Terry would always love and support her, Claudia decided to give up dark magic and seek council with Viren again for clarity in the future. She ultimately never got the chance and instead chose to honor her deal with Aaravos after learning that much like Viren, all his actions were out of love for his child.
