Clervie Snezhevna is a posthumous minor protagonist of Genshin Impact, serving as the deuteragonist of Arlecchino's Story Quest. She is the biological daughter of the abusive former "Mother" of the House of the Hearth, Crucabena, who befriended a mysterious young orphan named Peruere, from where they together try to find a way to escape from their wicked caretaker, who subjected them to a battle royale to become “King” in the House. However, Peruere had killed Clervie who only grew to believe that she could only be free in death, but this only led to Peruere gaining the resolve to kill the abusive caretaker, inheriting her position as the Knave and swearing to reform the House of the Hearth under her wing.
She was voiced by Zhixiao Liu in Chinese, Hiroka Aoto in Japanese, Kwak Kyumi in Korean, and Dawn Bennett in English.
History[]
The Song Burning in the Embers[]
Clervie was the daughter of the malevolent caretaker and "Mother" of the House of the Hearth, Crucabena. She befriended a mysterious white-haired Khaenri'ahn orphan named Peruere and they became fast friends.
Clervie and her best friend Peruere begin their plans to escape from Crucabena's tyranny where Peruere, who was more cynical among the two, sought to rise up the ranks to finally confront and kill Crucabena, growing to be aware of her malevolence, which she disagreed with. After Clervie failed to convince Crucabena to stop her tyranny, and even risked her life trying to escape, resist and even expose her crimes, only to be tortured and subject to more abuse. Ten years later, when they were 16, Crucabena subjected the children of the House of the Hearth to a battle royale where she made them fight against each other so that they can become “King” under Crucabena's reign leading to many deaths with the survivors being given to Il Dottore to be experimented upon. Clervie sought to put fights into stalemates in an effort to try to reduce the amount of casualties. This drove Clervie into believing that she no longer had any hope of escaping other than in death, asking Peruere to mercy kill her.
A year later, Peruere is able to confront Crucabena and kill her for good, ending her reign of tyranny. She was arrested for that and extradited to Snezhnaya but the Tsaritsa pardoned her actions and gave her the title of The Knave, Arlecchino. The experiences Peruere had under Crucabena's reign of terror led to her more disciplined and friendly rule on the House of the Hearth, and she worked to wipe away traces of Crucabena’s dark legacy from records while letting rumours that she is a hyper cruel caretaker spread.
As a Phantom[]
However, Peruere’s Balemoon Bloodfire left behind traces of those it consumed leading to the creation of a phantom six-year-old Clervie, of which present day House of the Hearth members tried to protect from the current Arlecchino, who is revealed to be her old friend Peruere. The Traveler and Paimon hear Clervie out, where she explains the fear of being given to The Doctor, a fate worse than death, after being given up by Crucabena. Nevertheless, they accompany her until Arle returns.
Arlecchino plans on eliminating the "traitors" involved in the incident, who were implicated for their role in protecting Clervie, sparing the Traveler and Paimon who were treated as guests. While the Bouffes d’Ete trio could live, the others would be killed off. Arle agrees to not listen, but if they successfully laid Clervie to rest, she would spare the group. At the ruins of the former House of the Hearth building at Mont Essus East, Arlecchino tells the Traveler her backstory and how she killed Crucabena, planning to lay Clervie to rest to settle the conflict.
The traitors arrive, but Lyney tried to stop Arle from killing them, allowing Chapleau to side with Lyney and let him settle the matter with a duel. The Traveler sides with the trio, but wasn’t able to defeat Arlecchino. She readies a powerful attack, but surrenders afterwards, stating they aren’t strong enough to face her. Knowing this, she lets the traitors consume the potion made of her Balemoon Bloodfire that would remove their memories of them living with the House of the Hearth, praising their good fight. Arlecchino has a talk with her Clervie with the Traveler, telling her the truth about Crucabena and how she tried to make right what she did wrong, and the next day releases Clervie from the house, as her memories would reset the next dawn. allowing her to rest in peace.
