Clifford Chase Howard, or commonly known as Clifford the Big Red Dog, and simply Clifford, is the titular main protagonist of the franchise of the same name. He is adopted by Emily Elizabeth Howard as a very small puppy and eventually grows enormous. He is a red Labrador Retriever.
As a full-grown dog in the original series, he was voiced by John Ritter (who also portrayed Ben Hanscom in Stephen King's miniseries IT and Ben Healy in the first 2 Problem Child films, before his death in 2003). After Ritter's death, he is voiced by David Beron. As a puppy in Clifford's Puppy Days, he is voiced by Lara Jill Miller (who also voices Lisa Loud in The Loud House). In the 2019 reboot, he is voiced by Adam Sanders.
When he's barking when Emily is around, his vocal effects are provided by Frank Welker.
Personality[]
Clifford is a helpful, outgoing, and a friendly but clumsy dog. He can always help his buddies in their times of need and give them amazing advice. However, being kind and understanding doesn't prevent him from having standards. He also can be gullible and naïve and sometimes believes everything he is told. In one episode, a mischievous dog named Artie tricked him into digging someone's hole and got Clifford blamed for it.

Clifford is a giant red dog, which sometimes he gets into trouble because of his size or is tempted into trouble by his friends and those he meets. His size, like giants in medieval legends, is inconsistent—he is often shown as being about 25' tall from paws to head but can appear far larger. Clifford even has a tag in Clifford's Really Big Movie.
