Cosmo, the koala Alpha, has always felt more at home among his plant friends than with other animals. This is partially because of his unique ability to speak with plants, and partially because his timid nature keeps him far from most confrontations.
~ Cosmo's description in the Alpha Headquarters.

Cosmo is a major character in Animal Jam and one of the seven main Alphas that protect Jamaa. As the koala Alpha, he has the special abilities of controlling and speaking to plants. Despite his more introverted nature, he has a large role in the fight against the Phantoms, both being the head researcher of the Alphas and the creator of many useful tools against the enemies, the two most notable of which being the Chomper Plants and Boomseeds.

Biography[]

As the Phantoms invaded Jamaa and started to imprison animals in their Heartstones, Mira and Zios sought out the remaining six species' leaders to aid them in fighting off the attackers. The leader of the koalas, Cosmo, gained magical powers and the title of Alpha along with the other five, and helped defeat the Phantom Queen alongside them. However, the six Alphas were left to protect Jamaa on their own after Zios and Mira had disappeared through the portal the Phantoms had fled into.

Cosmo first appears in the titular adventure Meet Cosmo, where he greets the player at his house at the start and asks them to water the plants in his garden that the Phantoms had polluted while he goes to make sure two koala explorers he had sent out earlier are ok. Once that's done, he returns and praises the player for their efforts, before reporting that the Phantoms had captured the two koala explorers. He says that he knows how to rescue them, tasking the player with gathering nectar, honey, Chomper Plant seeds, and four randomized crops from his garden to make Boomseeds with. Once the Boomseeds are made, he teaches them how to use them and instructs the player to blow up a nearby boulder with one. A pathway to a cavern is revealed, with Cosmo stating that they were sent to explore the cave, and likely got captured there. he tells the player to go in and search for them while he investigates to find out what the Phantoms are up to. After the player finds and frees Max the koala inside the cave, Cosmo appears upon going outside on the other side and congratulates the player, before informing them of Phantom Sprouters, which are devices that can create more Phantoms and a quick pace. He recommends using Boomseeds to destroy any Sprouters the player finds while he tries to find the source of them. After the Phantom Sprouters are destroyed and the nearby bridge is repaired, the player heads inside another cave, where they find and free Eden the koala. Cosmo shows back up, thanking them for freeing the koalas and healing the polluted land, before telling them about the Phantom Hive where many Phantoms live, suggesting that they go in and destroy it. He then gives the player a reward and tells them to return home via a portal he's standing next to.

He appears in The Hive where he tells the player that a Phantom King has found a way into Jamaa, and that he resides in the depths of the Phantom Hive. Cosmo tells the player to keep their eyes peeled for anything strange as the two head inside. After splitting up, Cosmo and the player will meet at the locked door leading to the Phantom King. He's told of the player's earlier encounter with the wolf Alpha Greely, and Cosmo is shocked to hear that went into the Hive alone, wondering what he's up to. He then says that they have no time to worry about that at the moment, and should find four Lava Crystals to unlock the door to the Phantom King, advising the player to take a torch with them to see in the darkness. When the door is unlocked, he gives them a tip that the Phantom King can only be harmed when his "zapping power" is gone, and that him slamming into the ground can cause him to lose focus and become vulnerable. During the fight itself, Cosmo helps offscreen by supplying the player with Boomseeds. Once the Phantom King is defeated, Cosmo compliments the player's skill before noting that the Phantom King had vanished, adding that it likely won't be the last they see of him. He then gives they player a prize and tells them to go through the portal to return home once more.

He shows up at the start of The Great Escape, exclaiming that it's raining Phantom sludge, wondering if it's coming from the Phantom Tower. he then elaborates that the tower was originally built by the Alphas as a stronghold, but the Phantoms have since taken it over. seeing that the tower is locked up firmly, he then comes up with the idea of the player getting caught on purpose to get inside and rescue the monkey that have been held captive as well as finding out about the Phantom's plans. he says he's going to stay outside and try to heal the plants that are being polluted from the poisonous sludge rain, advising the player to move around to get the Phantom's attention, as they are attracted to movement. At the end of the adventure, the player talks to Cosmo again, who informs them of the Phantoms invading a volcano, which was the cause of the sludge rain. The player then reports running into Greely again while inside the tower, Cosmo is shocked and urges the player that they must get to the volcano before it can erupt, otherwise all of Jamaa will be destroyed.

At the start of Greely's Inferno, Cosmo and the player arrive at the base of the volcano as it nears eruption. The koala Alpha tells them that Graham is at the top of the volcano and will need help, telling them to follow the left pathway to reach him. He then urges them to hurry, warning them of falling Phantoms along the way. At the end of the adventure, the player will return to the base of the volcano to find Cosmo along with Graham, Liza, and Sir Gilbert. Upon hearing of Greely's sacrifice, the other four Alphas grieve his supposed death and honor him as a hero.

At the end of The Search for Greely, Cosmo, Liza and Graham confront the titular wolf Alpha about the research on the Phantoms a search party found in his den, accusing him of being a traitor that was working with the Phantoms. Greely explains himself, stating that he was actually a spy, before informing them of the Phantom Fortress where many Phantoms are made and the Phantom Kings meet to formulate attack plans. Cosmo retorts that the Phantom Fortress is just a story until Greely presents the Phantom Beacon, a tool used to track the Fortresses' location. Afterwards, he's astonished when hearing that the player managed to defeat two Phantom Kings at once.

He appears once more at the end of Turning the Tide, impressed that the player had rescued both Tavie and the Bottlenose Brigade from their imprisonment, thanking the for their help and adding that now the ocean can finally heal with the polluting Phantom Factory gone.

He and Graham reappear in The Mystery Below, where along with the player the two explore the area of the map obtained in The Trials of Zios. They arrive at a gate with Zios' face on it, and the player unlocks it using Light Blossoms gathered from the surrounding mushrooms. Cosmo is fascinated by said mushrooms and their bioluminescence, lamenting the fact that he can't ask them for help as his ability to speak to plants doesn't extent to fungi. He then says that they can use the Light Blossoms to light up the crystals and make their way deeper into the caverns. Once moths have been attracted to all four central crystals by lighting them up, Graham is impressed by the creations of those who had lived in the cavers in the past, and Cosmo reminds him that technology comes in forms other than electricity and metal, and that the inhabitants knew how to do incredible things that were forgotten over time. Later, the player solves a puzzle that lights up the runes all over the cavern, revealing it to be the ruins of a fallen city. Graham wonder how the Phantoms had not yet found it, and Cosmo guesses that Zios made sure that only adventurers could discover it. The two decide to investigate a bit, eventually coming across the Temple of the Ancients.

The Alphas stumble upon a large pink stone near the fallen city, with Cosmo, Liza, Sir Gilbert and Graham deciding to bring it to the Alpha Headquarters to further study it. However, Greely steals it one day with the intent to return it to where it was found, and the other Alphas track him down. Once the stone is returned, the four Alphas confront Greely about taking it, to which the wolf Alpha explains that it's wrong to take it from where it belongs, with Peck backing him up. The others argue abut it's significance, before the surrounding stones light up, revealing that the pink stone was in fact a Heartstone, to which the others apologize for judging Greely too soon.
