Cotton Weary is a major character in the Scream franchise.
He was a wrongly convicted man due to being framed by Billy Loomis for the murder of Sidney Prescott's mother Maureen, whom he had an affair with.
He was portrayed by Liev Schreiber, who also played Robert Thorn in The Omen remake.
Biography[]
Scream (1996)[]
As one of Maureen Prescott's lovers, Cotton was framed by her real killers (Billy Loomis and Stu Macher), resulting in a prison sentence, and he later faced the death penalty for being falsely accused of rape and murder.
However, the real killers reveal their atrocities to Sidney, and thanks to Gale's efforts to exonerate and defend Cotton, he is released.
Scream 2[]
After being released he harassed Sidney to go on record supporting his innocence which made him a suspect to be the new Ghostface killer. When it turned out Billy's mother was the killer Cotton saved Sidney from her and they reconciled.
Scream 3[]
Cotton used his fame to become a reality show host and also had success in his personal life as he dated Christine Hamilton. When he was threatened by Roman Bridger he tried and failed to protect Christine from him. He was ultimately killed by Roman after refusing to tell him where Sidney was.
