“ | Let's go, Connie. We Wattanists have a duty to perform. We must protect the Uni-Tree, for the sake of our world. | „ |
~ Cozette talks with Connie in a flashback in Mario & Luigi: Brothership |
Cozette is a friendly character from Mario & Luigi: Brothership, who serves as an ally.
Description[]
Personality[]
True to her role as a Wattanist, Cozette is a wise woman. She was the original mentor of Connie, teaching her the responsibilities of a Wattanist and helping her out of a jam several times. Because of this, Connie loves Cozette, hoping to be reunited with her someday.
Physical Appearance[]
Cozette is a tall, lanky Concordian woman who looks like Connie, but with a long-sleeved dress. Her hat is identical to Connie's, resembling an A-type plug.
Biography[]
Prior to the events of the game, Cozette was the original Wattanist (term for caretaker of the Uni-Tree), teaching her pupil, Connie, the ways of the Wattanist. One day, she disappeared, forcing Connie to supplant her. During this time, Zokket and his minions tore Concordia's lands apart by destroying the Uni-Tree in their efforts to destroy the land. Mario and his brother Luigi were brought to Concordia to stop Zokket's mad plans.
Mario and Luigi reconnect the islands, before storming Zokket's fortress with their new powers, where he fights the duo and dies. Cozette is rescued, and Mario and Luigi take her back to Shipshape Island, where she reunites with her pupil, but Zokket managed to reawaken a fiend named Reclusa, who was responsible for Cozette's disappearance, in his last moments.
Reclusa immediate wreaks havoc and creates the Soli-Tree, a tree that it uses as its fortress. Cozette reveals that Reclusa's fortress can be invaded with Bond power, as she and Connie create one for immediate use. Mario and Luigi, after getting enough Bonds, storm the fortress, but Cozette is revealed to have charged ahead to get revenge on Reclusa. She fails, and the Bros. are forced to go in her stead with her injuries being treated by her student. As the Bros. fight the fiend, she sends Connie to provide aid for the Bros., which proves essential when Reclusa knocks the Bros. out with a wave of a toxic substance known as "Glohm." After the Bros. finally slay Reclusa, the Soli-Tree disintegrates alongside the fiend, and Mario, Luigi, Connie, and Cozette (who recovered) escape.
During the credits, Cozette can be seen teaching some children in what became Twistee Island when Zokket attacked.
Trivia[]
- Etymology: Cozette's name is derived from the name "Cosette," which comes from French chose ("object"). It's also a rough anagram of Zokket's Japanese name.
