Crackers is one of the two tritagonists (alongside her mate Sulu) of Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants book series.
She is a pterodactyl that is is clever and is adopted by George Beard and Harold Hutchins. She was mistaken for a quetzalcoatlus by the boys (and was initially believed to be male before she laid eggs in the tenth book) and was thought dead after sacrificing herself to prevent Slightly Younger Tiny Tippy from destroying the galaxy.
History[]
In Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy Part 2: The Revenge of the Ridiculous Robo-Boogers, when the boys encounter Miss Singerbrains the librarian who steals two inventions from them and plans on reporting them to the police. George and Harold, who need to bring the inventions back to Melvin Sneedly, then travel to the Cretaceous period and get a female Quetzalcoatlus, who they nickname "Crackers". They then fly to Singerbrains, who is driving to the police station. George convinces her she is dreaming because of "the dinosaur's presence", etc. After flying back to the school, Harold returns Crackers, then they erase Singerbrains memory, and travel to the present.
In the end, George finds out that Harold didn't really send Crackers back and had left her with Sulu. George decides she could stay in the present for just one night but they had to return her tomorrow. But the next day, when George, Harold and Sulu are ready to take Crackers back where she belongs, the time machine malfunctions.
In Captain Underpants and the Preposterous Plight of the Purple Potty People, George, Harold, Sulu, and Crackers have now ended up in an alternate universe in Melvin's time machine, where the whole world is the opposite of their normal world (instead of being perched up in a tree in the Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic Era). George and Harold soon discover that Sulu and Crackers are kidnapped by an Evil George and an Evil Harold and are hypnotized to be evil, and then ordered to destroy George and Harold. Sulu immediately attacks, but Crackers does the opposite and saves them (due to secretly being female). George, Harold, and Crackers are able to escape to their normal dimension and head to the treehouse, unaware that Nice Mr. Krupp, Sulu, Evil George and Evil Harold came with them (due to standing too close to the machine).
Soon, Evil George and Evil Harold find the treehouse, rummage through it and find the "Goosy-Grow 4000", which they use to transform Sulu into a giant monster. Sulu charges at George and Harold, but Crackers flies in and carries George and Harold away while Sulu attacks the city and Evil George, Evil Harold, and Captain Blunderpants rob a bank. When George and Harold try to drink the Extra-Strength Super Power Juice, they discover it is empty, despite there being a third of juice earlier.
George explains that there is only one plan left they can resort to now. They go to Mr. Krupp's house (which George and Harold covered in toilet paper at an earlier point) and knock on his door. Right after Mr. Krupp answers, George and Harold quickly snap their fingers and Mr. Krupp turns into Captain Underpants, who then defeats Sulu. Evil George, Evil Harold, and Captain Blunderpants return from robbing the bank, and order Captain Blunderpants to fight Captain underpants, but George snaps his finger and turns Captain Blunderpants back into Nice Mr. Krupp, having learned how to do so from the double's comic. Captain Underpants ties the alternate counterparts up, but when Harold states that nothing can go wrong, George warns him that it isn't nice to say things like that, and then a rainstorm suddenly hits and turns Nice Mr. Krupp back into Captain Blunderpants and Captain Underpants back into Mr. Krupp. George and Harold try snapping their fingers, but the rain is pouring too hard on them. Mr. Krupp can't figure out how he got outside, so he goes back to his soggy toilet paper-covered home to get back to bed while Captain Blunderpants frees himself and Evil George and Evil Harold.
George and Harold fly away on Crackers while the doubles pursue them. After arriving at the Treehouse, George finds the Shrinky-Pig 2000, which they could use to shrink their counterparts. Unfortunately, it is too late as Captain Blunderpants grabs the two by their Shirts while the Shrinky-Pig 2000 is taken by Evil George and Evil Harold. Before Captain Blunderpants can finish off George and Harold, George and Harold's grandparents arrive and order Captain Blunderpants to put down their grandchildren, but he refuses, causing George and Harold's grandparents to transform into Boxer Boy and Great-Granny Girdle (having been inspired by George and Harold's comic).
They then battle and defeat Captain Blunderpants, saving their grandchildren. George then notes that their grandparents had drunk the rest of the Extra-Strength Super Power Juice earlier. George and Harold's grandparents fly off for a romantic dinner, George and Harold de-hypnotize and shrink Sulu back to normal, and then take Evil George, Evil Harold, and Captain Blunderpants back to their own universe into the Purple Potty.
Harold states everything had worked out perfectly, but then two policemen arrive to arrest them because they think they are the evil George and Harold who robbed a bank with Captain Blunderpants and stated that it looks like they are going to jail for the rest of their lives. A bummed Harold remarks that things cannot get any worse despite George's earlier warnings. Suddenly, a robotic pair of pants appears, piloted by Professor Poopypants (who changed his name to Tippy Tinkletrousers at the end of Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants). When the cops laugh at Tinkletrouser's name, he freezes them with his Freeze Beam 4000 and begins chasing George, Harold, Crackers and Sulu.
In Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers, the boys travel back with their pets, but accidentally take Mr. Krupp with them. Big Tippy sends his smaller self back ten minutes to find where, then back there then, where the small ones zap themselves back and steal the Goosy-Grow 4000, which turns Tiny Tippy extremely massive. When Big Tippy attempts to use his nuclear bomb to kill Captain Underpants, Supa Mega Tippy zaps himself back in time (with his twin) and kicks Big Tippy and his bomb away into the Gulf of Mexico. When the bomb explodes, it blows a huge crater and kills the dinosaurs.
The five protagonists and their captor then travel to the African savannas where the boys and their pets gain the trust of some cavemen who inhabit the surrounding jungles. The cavemen are taught English through drawings and subsequently, the boys make the world's first comic book (which involves drawings of traps working on Tippy). The Neanderthals, inspired by the book, then set traps for Tippy and defeat him. He then sets off his freeze ray (which has been tampered with by his younger twin so that it could not be turned off), and the Goosy-Grow 4000 enlarges the ice which appears to make Crackers' condition deteriorate and causes the Ice Age (and freezing Tippy himself).
George, Harold, Sulu, Crackers and Mr. Krupp are then transported to the future by Slightly Younger Tiny Tippy, who is now gigantic, thanks to the Goosy-Grow 4000. Which it turns out that George and Harold are now teachers at Jerome Horwitz Elementary, and Mr. Krupp is an old man. After getting rid of their evil future selves by vowing never to take life seriously, they snap their fingers, turning both Mr. Krupps into Captain Underpants, and they beat up Slightly Younger Tiny Tippy, who afterward attempts to use his nuclear bomb to blow up the entire galaxy. After that, Crackers and Sulu decide to save the entire galaxy by sending Slightly Younger Tiny Tippy and themselves back to the time before the universe existed (13.7 billion years ago). The bomb then explodes with a "ka-bloosh", presumably killing Sulu, Crackers and Slightly Younger Tiny Tippy. It is also revealed that Crackers was not ill, but pregnant.
While Crackers is not physically present in Captain Underpants and the Tyrannical Retaliation of the Turbo Toilet 2000 and in Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-A-Lot, it is revealed here that Crackers' eggs were the result of her mating with Sulu (who Harold speculates had his genes mutated when he was turned into a bionic hamster). The resulting creatures are nicknamed "Hamsterdactyls" by George and Harold (as they still did not know that Crackers was a Quetzalcoatlus and not a Pterodactyl). Crackers and Sulu's offspring are named "Tony", "Orlando" and "Dawn" by the boys. They are instrumental in defeating Turbo Toilet 2000 upon his return. After the Hamsterdactyls defeat Sir Stinks-A-Lot, George and Harold decide to use Melvin's Robo-Squid suit in an attempt to save Sulu and the Crackers from their untimely deaths.
Appearance[]
Crackers is a purple pterodactyl and uses wings to fly.
Triva[]
- She can fit in Harold's backpack without any trouble.
- Crackers was initially believed to be male. The idea that Crackers was female was first foreshadowed in Book 8, after she responded in an opposite way to the 3D Hypno-Ring (something that only happens to women, as revealed in Book 5). Crackers' true gender was confirmed at the end of Book 10, after George and Harold discover that she had laid three eggs offscreen.
