Craig Tinker is a fictional character and major protagonist of the British soap opera Coronation Street. He debuted on 5th August 2011 and became one of the show's central protagonists over the following years amid his long-running duration on the show. He will leave the show in 2025.

The character is portrayed by Colson Smith.

Biography

Craig Tinker first came to Weatherfield in August 2011 with his troubled mother Beth Sutherland.

Upon arrival, he and his mother settled in the street. Years later he decided to become a police officer, but this was threatened when he found out that his biological father was a criminal who wanted to groom him into collaborating with his criminal activities. But Craig chose not to do that and instead pursued his dream of becoming a police officer.

In 2017, Craig was assigned as the protégé of his mentor Neil Clifton during the investigation of Craig's friend Bethany Platt being sexually groomed by pimp lord Nathan Curtis and his sex ring. It is soon revealed that Neil is one of Nathan's associates and Bethany's rapists, which in turn led to Craig exposing Neil's corruption and getting him arrested in the process. Craig then testified in court and helped Bethany ensure that both Nathan and Neil, along with their other conspirators, were all found guilty of rape.

From then onwards, Craig developed himself as a highly decorated policeman who made several arrests and attended many crime scenes whilst settling his newfound life as one of Weatherfield's most respected officers.

• Colson Smith (the actor who played Craig Tinker) has been nominated for and won several awards for his character's performance and contributing storylines.
• He was born on 2nd September 1998.
• Smith was axed from the show in January 2025.
