Crash Bandicoot is the titular main protagonist of the 2017 platform game compilation Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and its 2020 sequel, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time.
He was once an ordinary bandicoot until he was exposed to the Evolvo-Ray by his arch-nemesis, Dr. Neo Cortex, as part of his plan to create an army of mutant animals to take over the world. However, Cortex's mind control device malfunctioned, causing Crash to turn against Cortex, the two then became arch-enemies as Crash sets out to stop all of Cortex's evil schemes.
He was voiced by Jess Harnell in N. Sane Trilogy and by Scott Whyte in Crash Bandicoot 4.
Personality[]
Crash has a wacky, cartoonish personality, but deep down is a kindhearted individual, but unlike his original counterpart, he never displays any jerk qualities beyond his determination to defeat his enemies. Despite his setbacks, he is a surprisingly clever individual, being able to maneuver many traps Cortex and his minions place in his plan to destroy him.
Crash's favorite fruit is Wumpa Fruit, as implied by Dr. Cortex during an older training video during his days as a lab specimen. He has a strong fascination for the delicious fruit and is frequently seen not just eating it but also performing tricks with it when standing idle.
Like his original counterpart, Crash is a mostly mute character who is rarely heard speaking with the exception upon death. During the ending cutscene of It's About Time, Crash is seen narrating the epilogue of the game's story, implying that he is possibly fully capable of speech, however this could be considered an in-game joke as he could be simply lip-syncing to a pre-recording.
Biography[]
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy[]
Crash's actions follows mostly alongside the original three video games like his original counterpart. During the intro of the first game, he is depicted as an ordinary bandicoot until being exposed to the Evolvo-Ray by his arch-nemesis, Dr. Neo Cortex. He promptly escapes after Cortex orders his capture, but in doing so leaves his love interest Tawna Bandicoot behind, forcing him to make a long trip back to rescue her.
Crash defeats numerous other experiments of Cortex's making along the way, before fighting Cortex himself and defeating him. he rescues Tawna and the two of them escaped on Cortex's airship.
After Cortex's initial defeat, Crash is asked by his sister Coco to bring an extra battery for her, since her old one got fried. Along the way however, he is sidetracked when he encounters Cortex, claiming that he has a change of heart, claiming that he needs his help collecting 25 crystals in order to stop Dr. N. Gin's Cortex Vortex. After collecting the crystals. Coco interrupts Cortex and reveals that he has not switched sides while revealing his true intentions. Crash, though initially dumbfounded, stops Cortex and destroys the Cortex Vortex with the help of N. Brio.
After Cortex's second defeat, Uka Uka is awakened, causing Aku Aku to warn Crash and Coco about the danger he poses, informing them that they must stop Uka Uka and Dr. Cortex's plans by collecting all the Crystals before they do by means of a device called the Time Twister. After collecting the crystals (as well as the subsequent gems) through different points of time, they confront Cortex and Uka Uka twice. As Aku Aku battles his evil brother, Crash takes on Cortex directly, defeating them both times. After the second defeat, Cortex and Uka Uka alongside N. Tropy are trapped on a volcanic planet in the distant past, rendering them into infants as a result.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time[]
Cortex, Uka Uka, and N. Tropy escape from their time prison they were trapped in at the end of Warped by ripping a hole in the space-time continuum, causing a series of anomalies and other dimensional rifts to be opened in the multiverse. Aku Aku sends Crash to investigate, soon running into Lani-Loni who happens to be one of the four Quantum Masks tasked with keeping the fabric of reality from breaking apart. Lani-Loli enlists Crash and Coco's help to find the other three Quantum Masks by traveling through the multiverse. During their travels Crash runs into an alternate dimension version of Tawna who agrees to help solve the multiverse crisis but opts to travel by herself.
Crash and Coco eventually encounter and defeat Cortex yet again, when they do Cortex has a breakdown and pleads to end his rivalry with Crash only for N.Tropy to reveal that he has found a new partner in-crime, a female version of N.Tropy from a different dimension, and now the two N.Tropies plan to destroy the multiverse and recreate it with themselves as the ultimate rulers. Cortex decides to join Crash and Coco feeling that "becoming a good guy" was better than losing to Crash over and over.
With Cortex's help the trio find the last of the Quantum Masks and reunite with Tawna as well as Dingodile who had also gotten involved in the multiverse crisis after retiring from villainy. The five all agree to work together to defeat N.Tropy and shut down his Rift Generator allowing the Quantum Masks to fix the multiverse closing all the dimensional rifts. The Quantum Masks offer to take everyone to the Sn@xx Dimension to celebrate their victory, but their celebration is cut short when Cortex betrays Crash and steals Kupuna-Wa the Quantum Mask of time. Cortex intended to travel back to 1996 and prevent his past self from creating Crash which would undo all of Cortex's past failures. Crash and Coco narrowly manage to chase Cortex to the Wumpa Islands in 1996.
When Cortex fails to convince his past self to stop the creation of Crash, Cortex steals all the Quantum Masks and uses them against Crash in a last ditch attempt to kill him, but Crash ultimately defeats Cortex yet again. With Cortex knocked unconscious after his defeat Crash then witnesses the past Cortex conduct the experiment on Past Crash, during which Present Crash accidentally knocks over the Vortex's power source, causing it to malfunction, meaning Crash was indirectly responsible for his own creation.
The Quantum Masks punish Cortex for kidnapping them and trying to change history by banishing him to a distant dimension, followed by Crash celebrating his latest victory before returning to N. Sanity Island.
