Croc (called also Master Croc) is a supporting character in Kung Fu Panda franchise.
He is a former leader Wool Stealing Crocodile Bandits and later a Kung Fu Master and a member of Council Masters, alongside Thundering Rhino and Storming Ox.
In Secrets of the Masters, he was voiced by Tony Leondis, in the video game by Dave B. Mitchell, and by Jean-Claude Van Damme (who also played Guile, Luc Deveraux, Frank Dux, Kyle Leblanc and Replicant) in Kung Fu Panda 2.
Personality[]
Initially Croc, as the leader of the crocodile bandits, was ruthless, treacherous, sneaky and evil. However, after being defeated by Thundering Rhino, he felt so humiliated that he decided to change for the better by practicing Kung Fu for selfless purposes.
As a member of the Council Masters, Croc proves very loyal, faithful and selfless to his two companions Thundering Rhino and Storming Ox, but when the former was killed by Shen with his weapon, he felt crushed from a very heavy weight and thought about giving up. However, he and Ox were convinced by Shifu to keep fighting to save Gongmen City and defeat Shen along with him, Po and the Furious Five. Like Po, Croc is very dramatic, but also dry and sarcastic, he has also proven to be a little less aggressive than his partner, Ox, as he can stay calmer than him.
When he was Street-Fighter he dreamed of glory and wealth and of living in a castle admired on a balcony, however, he stopped having these dreams after meeting Rhino, Ox and Oogway and stopping the Wu Sisters.
History[]
Beginnings[]
Not much is known about Croc's past, but it is known that he was the leader of the crocodile bandits of Crocodile Island and is known for "unmatched in their mischief" and for setting good traps, so much so that once he captured Mantis and teased, but was then defeated by him.
Eventually he met Thundering Rhino who defeated him and was so humiliated that he decided to change.
And then with him and Storming Ox they formed the Council Masters.
Secrets of the Masters[]
In a flashback told by Po it is said that Croc was once a street-fighter trying to make money by fighting with others with his Impenetrable Hide. One day he fought against Rhino and Ox, Oogway, he was witnessing the scene and wasn't thrilled about it, but then he noticed Wu Sisters breaking out of prison and saw it as an opportunity to change the three street-fighters.
Their fight ended evenly and they got only one coin to split each other, so that the three started fighting with each other and so that they almost started fighting each other again. Oogway however, at that moment intervened before they could begin. Corc mistook him for one of his fans and enthusiastically prepared to sign a piece of paper that Oogway had in his hand, believing it to be a portrait of him, but with Rhino and Ox he was shocked by the news that the Wu Sisters had escaped from prison. Oogway offered them the Wu Fortress to defeat Wu Sisters with all their talents combined, but the three were reluctant unless they got something in return, when his attempts to persuade them with their altruistic purposes, the turtle said that they would get the "wealth of riches", which caused Croc along with Rhino and Ox to accept. So the three with Oogway made their way to Wu Fortress through various obstacles on their way there. While crossing the bamboo forest, Croc tried to get Oogway to unload Rhino and Ox so that the two of them could share the loot, with Rhino and Ox trying to do the same thing with him, however Oogway ignored all offers.
At night surrounded by the bonfire, Croc reveals his greedy plans for him with the money he would get by buying a huge castle where with a cape on the balcony he would greet all his fans. After hearing these selfish tales from the three (except from Rhino, because of his father), Oogway explained to the trio one thing: when the path you take always leads back to yourself, they will never get anywhere unless " change course ". Corc believed this to be a bonfire story and "the worst he had ever heard" before Oogway received the news that Wu Sisters were rounding up the leaders of the evil gangs to besiege China and warn them to leave instantly.
To make sure they changed course, Oogway led the trio to Bridge of Mists, a very dangerous path. They wondered how they would pass, in response Oogway threw them into the air and onto the ledges so that they clung to the edges. This wasn't suicide though; it was a lesson in cooperation where Oogway crossed over the bridge created by the three and pulled them up one at a time.
Later, as they climbed the Wu Fortress, they very hardly finally realized that Oogway was metaphorical when he spoke of the promised riches. Initially they protested and Rhino accidentally made him land on a boulder on a lava river with his weight, Oogway manages to save them and falls towards his apparent death from a lava river telling the trio "Remember the path."
Initially, the three were disheartened by Oogway's apparent death and thought of returning home as losers. However, on their way home, they passed through a village ravaged by the Wu Sisters and the villagers were desperate and pleaded with Rhino, Ox and Croc to help them. Moved by the pleas of the inhabitants and convinced by Rhino, they refused the quota and were convinced to return to stop Wu Sisters. Thus, the ex-Street-Fighters stormed into the Wu Sisters hall just as they were planning to attack China and when they revealed that they were no longer doing this for money, the evil gangs were so intimidated that they ran away. Furious, Wu Sisters attacked the trio, although they initially prevailed, throwing Croc backwards, Rhino, Croc and Ox joined their talents together became unstoppable. After Ox located the weak point of the Wus, which were their tails stuck together, Croc stopped it with his Impenetrable Hide to calm the whirlwind, although it was starting to hurt seriously, Croc was able to adjust the vortex so that Rhino with one horn could separate the Wus, so that they then began to fight against them, eventually trapping them under a large statue head.
Immediately after their victory, Oogway appeared behind them and praised them for their worthy win and for finding true purpose to fight.
According to Po, after these events Oogway put Croc and his fellow warriors on a journey that eventually took them to Gongmen City where they formed the Council of Masters.
Kung Fu Panda 2[]
Croc is first seen in the courtyard of the Gongmen City palace training with Storming Ox and Croc with Soothsayer watching them, but they are interrupted by the unexpected arrival of Lord Shen, returned decades after his exile. After Shen asked them to leave the palace, the three made it clear to him that for no reason would they let him take over Gongmen City. With this Shen orders his wolves to bring in a huge wooden crate and Shen explains to them that it is their "parting gift", one that would literally separate them. Ox and Croc are infuriated by this and attack Shen, who after a brief fight is knocked down by Thundering Rhino, but soon after the latter is killed by Shen's "parting gift", which turns out to be a cannon. Croc and Ox are therefore forced to reluctantly surrender if they don't want Shen to aim all his guns on the city and are locked up in the Gongmen Jail.
Days later, Po and the Furious Five arrive in Gongmen City with a mission to stop Shen. After learning from a cooking sheep that Ox and Croc were still alive, they head to the Gongmen Jail to free them with Tigress breaking down their cell door, much to Po's enthusiasm. Although Croc and Ox agree with them to save Gongmen City, after the death of Thundering Rhino they are convinced that Kung Fu is dead and that they cannot do anything about it and therefore they refuse. Even after a fight with Po, they refuse and so they leave them disconsolate where they are, also because they are forced to flee when Wolf Boss and his soldiers discover them.
Later, on the night that Shen and the all wolves are about to set sail to conquer China, Po and the Furious Five, who managed to escape Shen by luck, hide in the Gongmen Jail with Ox and Croc still there, who learn that it is now there. it's total chaos with Shen about to rule China, they scold Po, asking what he was up to, even though they were ignored when Tigress attacks Po for letting Shen escape. When the Panda refuses to answer, Tigress decides that Po better stay hidden in the Prison with Ox and Croc keeping him out of harm's way, Croc and Ox then witness the sparring match that follows and the former winces visibly when Po is submissive.
Eventually Po reveals the truth that Shen is the one who knows who he really is, Tigress calms down with this and is moved, but still tells them to stay in the Gongmen Jail hiding safely because he doesn't want to see a friend of his being killed and walks away. with the other Furious Five. Croc and Ox were also moved by this and try to reassure Po that if he stays with them it's for the best. It is unknown how they reacted after Po disobeyed the advice and pursued Shen.
The night Shen is about to conquer China, Croc and Ox remain in the cell until Shifu, arriving in Gongmen City to help his students, convinces them to get up and so they unexpectedly appear to fight Shifu alongside Po and the Five. All of them fight valiantly, until Shen uses his cannon and throws everyone into the water. All of them, except Po, were too injured to continue, but Po having found inner peace manages to evade, deflect and reflect Shen's guns at his own fleet, destroying it in the meantime, with Croc being one of many assisting. to the scene.
After Po defeated Shen, Croc with the others was amazed by PO hugging Tigress, but was also pleased and delighted at the fireworks display resulting from Shen's destroyed ship, as the city of Gongmen celebrated the victory of the kung fu warriors. After that, Croc returns to his Master position with Storming Ox protecting Gongmen City.

On the way they are met by chance by Crane and Mantis who are on a mission under Shifu's order to control Kai, found the ship where he is hiding in the Tavern River Bed, Crane despite trying to make them reason, Croc along with Bear and Chicken attack Kai failing and transform into Jade with the two of them who then join them.

Trivia[]
- Croc's design originally came from an early villain concept for the first film as part of Tai Lung's army.
