In the latest Mortal Kombat, Cyrax is given an entire overhaul featuring more armor plating and visible scratches thanks to graphical improvements as well as green eyes.

The human Cyrax, along with Sektor and Sub-Zero, were part of the Earthrealm Mortal Kombat Tournament, having been hired by Shang Tsung to assassinate the Earthrealm competitors. During the tournament, Cyrax and Sektor debated the Grandmaster's plan of the Cyber Initiative, but were interrupted by Scorpion. Irritated by the Shirai Ryu's arrogance, they battled the spectre but were defeated by him, which led to a confrontation between Bi-Han and Scorpion that led to their comrade's death. Cyrax was shocked and vowed revenge, but was approached by Raiden, who commented that Sub-Zero's fate was a result of his own mistakes, bringing up the Cyber Initiative as another example. Cyrax admitted that he was one of those speaking out against the Grandmaster's plans, and the thunder god also made him consider if aiding SHang Tsung on the Grandmaster's orders was the right thing.
Left pondering before he had to asassinate Johnny Cage in the Tournament, Cyrax was confronted by Sheeva and Baraka on the bridge above the pit, who revealed that the latter had overheard his conversation, and thus Shang Tsung his disposed of the Lin Kuei. Cyrax defeated the Shokan but was faced with the Tarkatan, and defeated Baraka after taunting him that he was unable to defeat even Cage. Cyrax then headed to confront Shang Tsung, and found him conversing with Sektor. the sorcerer considered his conversation with the Thunder God to jeopardise his plans and forced Cyrax to fight Cage to the death. After the Lin Kuei defeated the actor, Cyrax noticed Raiden urging him not to finish him, and led him live.
Sektor refused to let Cyrax's refusal to kill go and argued with Cyrax, with the latter reasoning that Johnny didn't need to die after being eliminated from the tournament. After Sektor vowed to enact the Cyber Initiative to weed out his insubordination, the enraged Cyrax battled him, refusing to lose his free will. After winning the battle, Cyrax vowed to leave the Lin Kuei, knocking out Sektor as he left. Despite his decision, Cyrax would be captured by the Lin Kuei, and was forcibly transformed into a cyborg enslaved to the Cyber Initative. Afterwards, the automated Cyrax was sent to capture Kuai Liang, and would later be a part of Outworld's invasion.
In his non canon ending, Cyrax managed to retain his free will, and was marked as a traitor by Sektor. After being surrounded, Cyrax was shocked to be saved by Raiden and 100 Shaolin Monks, who managed to destroy the Cyber Lin Kuei after him, although Sektor managed to escape. Cyrax was offered sanctuary at the Wu Shi Academy, and began a life as an honourable warrior for peace.
