Cyrax is a supporting protagonist in the original Mortal Kombat fighting game series. He was an honorable Lin Kuei warrior who was human until was reborn as a cybernetic ninja.

History[]

Mortal Kombat 3[]

Cyrax was a high ranking member of the Lin Kuei, who was forcibly converted into the cyborg Unit LK-4DA as part of the Cyber Initiative, and was ordered to hunt down the renegade Sub-Zero along with Sektor and Smoke. However, when Cyrax tracked down the ninja, he and Sektor also battled the now freed Smoke. Cyrax was reprogrammed by Sub-Zero destroy Shao Kahn and thus end the Outworld invasion. In his ending, due to being undetectable, Cyrax was able to kill the Emperor in a sneak attack. However in the main version of events, Cyrax was unable to complete this order after Shao was defeated, and in both versions would malfunction due to not receiving orders from the Lin Kuei and became stranded within a desert.

Mortal Kombat 4/Gold[]

Cyrax was found and repaired by the Cyber Lin Kuei, however, during Shinnok's invasion, Cyrax's human memories began surfacing, and after the fallen Elder God was defeated, Cyrax came to the Special Forces for aid. Sonya Blade and Jax Briggs brought him to the Outerworld Investigation Agency headquarters and used its technology to restore his humanity. Grateful for their help, Cyrax joined the Agency.

Deadly Alliance[]

Over the next few years, Cyrax would act as a scout into other Realms for the OIA. During the events of Deadly Alliance, Cyrax was attacked in Outworld by the Oni Drahmin and Moloch but managed to fight them off. However, he would later find himself facing Reptile, and had his teleporter damaged, stranding him in Outworld. The desperate cyborg gained an unexpected ally in Nitara, who offered to help in return for his aid. She wished him to retrieve an orb that resided within a volcano, knowing his cybernetic body would be able to survive the lava it was trapped within. Cyrax did as she wished, and in return he was magically transported back to Earthrealm.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon[]

Cyrax was a member of the Forces of Light during the Battle of Armageddon, and was seen facing Sheeva on the Pyramid of Argus, before being thrown off it. In his ending, Cyrax defeats Blaze, and after absorbing his elemental power, becomes fully human. He and Sub-Zero face Smoke and Sektor, reprogramming them to serve the Lin Kuei until their humanity could be restored. In the main version of events, Cyrax was killed on the steps of the Pyramid.
