Daffy Duck is a major character in the Space Jam film series. He is a cartoon duck well known for his screw-balled and scheming personality that will either help him out or backfire on him depending on the situation.
In the first film, he was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker and Eric Bauza in its sequel. In the Japanese dub, he was voiced by Wataru Takagi, who also voiced Okuyasu Nijimura, Obito Uchiha, and Hugo Andore.
Personality[]
In both Space Jam films, Daffy has maintained his "Chuck Jones persona" (though he has shades of his Bob Clampett persona in the first movie); That being said, he can act like a complete jerk at times while still being looney. He is arrogant and this adds to his short temper, as he does not like being wrong. When he and Bugs traveled to Michael Jordan's house underground to get his gear, he goes right instead of left (the way Bugs said they should go) and burrows into the dog house and gets attacked by the family dog. Daffy is also a narcissist, sometimes stating that he is better than those around him and can be attracted to his own appearance. This is proven when Al-G upgrades the tunes and Daffy is the only one who likes the way he looks in CGI, even proudly saying, "I look expensive!"
Daffy is also shown to be apathetic to the well being of others unless him or his friends are being threatened; When Al-G announces that the humans would forever stay in the Serververse if the Tune Squad loses, he smugly remarks that they are at least safe, only for the arrogant AI to add that the Looney Tunes would also be deleted, much to his and his friends' shock.
Despite this, Daffy is a good guy at heart and cares for his friends. While he does act like a coward, he is not without his moments of bravery as he continues to compete against the Monstars and Goon Squad in their respective films even when he thinks defeat is inevitable.
Biography[]
Space Jam[]
Daffy first appeared when Bugs Bunny is forced to hold a town meeting by the Nerdlucks, who have come to enslave the Looney Tunes for their theme park on Moron Mountain. When Bugs announces this and everyone sees the aliens for themselves, no one takes them seriously because of their size and Daffy tells Yosemite Sam to deal with them, only for the latter to get blasted by Pound's ray-gun. This causes everyone to put their arms up and surrender, but Bugs says they have to allow them the chance to fight back by means of playing in a sport, according to the "Rules of how to kidnap a cartoon character".
Daffy, Bugs, Elmer and Sylvester talk about what they should do to avoid being enslaved and they decide to play a game of Basketball, as the Nerdlucks would have the odds since they are short and stumpy. However, they are in need of dire help when they transform into giant, muscular beings called the Monstars after taking the talents of NBA players.
Bugs and Yosemite Sam then decide to kidnap Michael Air Jordan and bring him to their world. Daffy initially doubts that he is the real deal, as he decides to play doctor and inspect him. After a "checkup", he concludes that it his truly his Airiness. They take him to a spare Basketball gym, where Michael meets the Monstars and, after they bully him and Tweety Bird, he agrees to help the Toons. First, he needs his gear.
Bugs and Daffy travel to the real world and invade Michael's house. It is when they inspect the Trophy Room where they finds his shoes, but get into trouble when they realize that their dog has the shorts, but doesn't intend to give them up without a fight. Thankfully, Michael's kids arrive and save them. The duo then go back the way they came (a hole in the golf course) as Bugs criticizes a name Daffy chose for their team (the Ducks), calling it a "Mickey Mouse Organization".
After much practice, the Tune Squad goes against the Monstars at the big game. However, the strong aliens are able to get ahead by 76 points, during which Daffy cowards and throws the ball to Granny, who isn't even playing, and she gets pummeled. During half time, Daffy, alongside everyone else except for Michael, Bugs and Lola Bunny, think they should just throw in the towel as Stan Podolak arrives and tells everyone that the Monstars are strong because of the talent they stole. Bugs then tells everyone they should drink MJ's good stuff to become buff enough in order to win, when in reality he is trying to give them the confidence they need. Despite this going against everything the health class that Daffy apparently attended told him, he drinks the beverage alongside everyone else.
Soon after, the Tunes make a comeback and turn the tides with their newfound courage. At one point, Daffy covers Pound's rear in red paint, which causes a bull in the stadium to charge at him in a fit of rage. During the third half, the Monstars pummel most of the Tune Squad on their boss's orders, Mr. Swackhammer. Almost everyone is badly injured and unable to play and Daffy asks Michael for more good stuff. Despite the latter saying it was only a ruse to pick up their spirits, Daffy doesn't believe him. After they are able to score another point with Stan's help, at the cost of him being injured as well, the latter is toonishly inflated after he being literally flattened. Bugs explains to a confused Michael that in the Tune world, even humans can use cartoon physics and demonstrates this by stretching Daffy's neck.
The Tune Squad is almost forced to forfeit when Bill Murray arrives to help. He then whispers to Daffy how he was able to arrive in the Tune World and tells the duck to pull off the "Gut Check" move. He does so and attacks one of the Monstars with it. After a long play, they are able to win and they watch the Monstars turn on Swackhammer after being convinced by Michael and launch him into space with one of Wile. E Coyote's rockets. They then allow the Nerdlucks to stay in their world after they give back the NBA players' talents.
Space Jam: A New Legacy[]
Sometime after the events of the original film, Daffy and his friends are confronted by the AI, Al-G Rhythm, who offers them to explore the explore the worlds of the Serververse. Like everyone else, sans for Bugs, Daffy leaves Tune World on Al-G's rocket. He then goes to the DC world with Porky Pig, who was presumably taken there against his will, where he would try to perform "heroic" acts to become apart of the Justice League.
A few years pass and Daffy has Porky film him trying to stop a subway car from crashing (which he set to happen in the first place) as "Super Duck". He then realizes that the train will crash into an orphanage unless something is done, much to his displeasure. He is then confronted by Bugs and Lebron James as Bat-Man and Robin respectively, who have come to ask the two to join their team in a game of Basketball against Al-G. Daffy refuses and continues to go through with his stunt, only to break the emergency lever by accident. The subway almost crashes into the orphanage before it is saved by Super-Man himself. Unaware of his presence, Daffy tries to take credit for the train stopping and revealing that he caused the whole ordeal to begin with, only to be met by Super-Man and other members of the Justice League. Afraid of the prejudice he will face, Daffy agrees to join the Tune Squad once more, this time as its coach.
After a while, the entire Looney Tunes cast is reunited on the ship Bugs stole from Marvin the Martian. Sticking to his arrogant ways, Daffy tries to explain the rules of Basketball, only to get brushed off by the others. They are soon able to arrive back on Tune World and they play more Basketball until they watch Bugs and Lebron's feud over the latter's arrogance and the former's looney personality. The giant clock on the planet that has been there since Lebron's arrival finally hits zero and the planet goes from a cartoon to CGI. Al-G Rythem and his right hand man, Pete arrive and decide to "upgrade" the Looney Tunes by turning them into CGI. While everyone else is disgusted by how they look, Daffy is amused, saying that he "looks expensive".
Al-G then brings multiple Warner Brothers characters and humans to the Basketball arena, Lebron's family included. He then announces that if the Tune Squad wins, the humans will return to the real world. If they lose, they'll be trapped in the Serververse forever. Since he and his friends don't seem to be in any hot water, Daffy smugly comments to Bugs that they are at least safe. As if on cue, Al-G adds that the Tunes will be deleted if they lose, causing the duck to be reprimanded by Bugs and get a smack on the back of the head by Granny for not staying quiet.
Dominic James and the Goon Squad are then introduced and due to Lebron forbidding the Tunes of their usage of cartoon physics, they easily dominate the first half of the game. During break, Daffy devises that they use some sort of secret weapon as a boost when Sylvester claims he found Michael Jordon in the crowd. They are immediately disappointed when it turns out that it was the actor, Michael B. Jordan instead. After Lebron is confronted by the Tunes for being a bad team player and a father, he realizes that he needs to let them be themselves and allows them to get "Looney".
The Second half starts and the Tune Squad is able to catch up thanks to their teamwork and usage of cartoon physics. By the time they are starting to pass by them, Lebron makes up with Dom, who then leaves to join the Tune Squad after realizing Al-G was never his friend. He is accepted by Daffy and the other Tunes. Angry at Dom's abandonment, Al-G transforms himself into a muscular Basketball player and takes his spot on the Goon Squad and cheats by taking away whatever points the Tune Squad scores. Dom then states that in order to win, one of their players will have to perform a step-back move that will glitch the game as well as the Goons and Al-G; The downside is that the performer will be glitched and deleted.
Lebron decides to do the move himself, but Bugs intercepts and takes the ball. Daffy and the others watch in horror as Bugs performs the move and glitches out alongside the Goon Squad and Al-G. His shot almost comes short when Lebron and Dom work together to score the final dunk and win the game, with Al-G and the Goons being deleted shortly after. As the human audience return to the real world, Daffy and his friends stay by Bugs' side as he disappears.
One week later, Bugs is revealed to have survived being deleted, as "Tunes can't die", and is now in the real world with Lebron alongside the other Tunes. The end credits show Daffy coaching another one of Lebron's games.
