Daijin is picked up in his keystone form by Suzume when she notices the stone object on the floor covered by water. As Suzume is looking at the door, the stone object is turned into a white fuzzy animal, to which Suzume throws it away out of surprise. The white creature then ran away. He later appears at the window of Suzume's house and surprises her with a meow as she presents herself to Souta Munakata. He was seen with wet fur. Suzume then feeds him with small fishes and asks him if he wants to become his pet to which he answers with a yeah, telling her that she is kind and that he likes her, revealing him to be capable of human speech. He then looks at Souta, telling him that he is in the way and fuses his body with the 3-legged chair that he was sitting on. Upon realizing that he gained the body of a chair, he asks Daijin if he did, causing the animal to run away. Despite his major change, Souta quickly adapts to his new body to chase Daijin. Souta jumps out of the window and runs across the garden then the street, with Suzume who was also chasing behind. Eventually, Daijin would run aboard a cruise ship followed by Souta and Suzume. Upon arriving on top of the ship, seemingly with no way another path to go, Souta makes his attempt to catch the cat, the animal, however, manages to escape by quickly climbing on top of the pole of the cruise and jumping from it, landing on a boat that was passing by. With no other choice to stay on the ship, as it began its departure, Suzume and Souta with its new body, decide to spend their night aboard the boat. Upon arriving at the port in the morning, as Suzume scrolls on her phone she discovers that Daijin had met many people who took photos of him across social media and as well as learning his name to be “Daijin”.
He later reappears again when Suzume succeeds in closing her first door with the help of Satou, praising her for being amazing and that another gate will soon open. Suzume spots Daijin at a bar where Suzume worked temporarily for a night, where the cat is seen sitting on a couch between customers who are having fun. Realizing that he was found, he runs away with Suzume and Satou on his chase again. They later arrive at an amusement park nearby where Daijin runs on top of a ferris wheel before enjoying the disaster with the worms that are about to occur. Daijin then jumps on the rails of the roller coaster nearby with Souta running alongside the rails and manages to catch him by jumping from the other side, causing the ferris wheel to be activated upon landing on the floor. Daiji is being restrained by chair-form Satou to force him to revert to a keystone and seal the incoming worm only the animal to refuse and instead say that he wants to play with Suzume, realizing that she needed aid to close the door that was one of the room of the ferris wheel who began to spin because the activation of its circuit breaker panel. Leading Satou to leave Daiji and let her help. The next morning, they now learn that Daijin is in Tokyo by using social media too. At Tokyo, Daiji is seen again, running alongside Suzume as she catches another Worm appearing. As Souta begins another chase, Daiji runs on the street. Eventually, Souta manages to catch him the second time landing on a bridge, telling him again to revert to a keystone only to refuse. An incoming car then causes again Souta to fail to restrain Daiji giving them another opportunity to run away. He later on is seen on the worm flying by and is then seen again in the sky and on top of a tentacle of the worm warning Suzume that once the Worm falls the Earth is going break causing much death. He then lands on Souta, revealing that he is no longer the keystone, and that his former role was passed on to Souta and convinces her to use him in the worm to stop the disaster.
Upon finally deciding to piece the chair-formed Souta into the worm, it caused it to vanish as it covered a large part of the city. With nothing to stand on, Suzume falls unconscious and starts falling from the sky alongside Daiji who decides to protect her from falling to her death by enlarging his body. Suzume wakes up underground and finds the Tokyo Gate where she sees Souta now as a chair placed on top of the mountain in the Ever-After. As Daiji appears, Suzume blames him that it is his fault that Souta is now the keystone and that he is no longer human. She then grabs Daiji, forcing him to get him back and initially has the desire to throw him to the ground. She then however let go of him, telling him to never talk to her again causing Daiji to be devastated and walk away.
He appears again in Serizawa’s car, interrupting the argument between Suzume and her aunt about going home. On their way to the location of Suzume’s house as a child, Daiji was sleeping as well as for Suzume. Moments later, Daiji wakes up because of feeling the shaking presumably from an Earthquake as well as Suzume who tells him to stop the car on a plain nearby to look for the presence of any worms. Later on, they make another stop at a gas station. As Suzume and her aunt starts a conflict, Daiji realizes that her aunt is being possessed by the second keystone knows as Sadaijin who was right behind her causing him to get angry and rush to the giant cat behind. With Sadaijin easily winning thanks to its bigger size, he joins their field trip to Suzume’s house while carrying Daiji in his mouth. The next morning, Serizawa unintentionally drove his car down the road, leaving Daiji and the rest of them to continue their path on bicycles. Upon finally arriving at their destination, Daiji guides her to the door that she opened as a child. As Suzume thanks Daijin, she opens to door and jumps into the Ever-After to save Souta alongside Daiji. Souta is seen isolated on top of the mountain in his chair form now acting as the keystone. As Suzume tries to pull him out, Daiji warns her that the worm will escape once again, to which she answers that she’ll be the new keystone, leading Daiji to join her in pulling him out. Upon succeeding in freeing Souta, Daiji is seen laying unconscious on the floor. Suzume rushes to pick him up, where Daiji tells his last words that he couldn’t become her pet before reverting back to a keystone.
