He gets into a car with Dr. Isles and rides home with her, where they agree they miss and need each other no matter their differences. They enter Dr. Isles' house, sleep together, and spend the night. This puts them in danger, as the killer, obsessed with Satanism, scrawls hateful messages in Dr. Isles' front door in red chalk for Father Brophy's romantic evening and overnight stay with her.

I Know A Secret[]
It's revealed Father Brophy went on a missionary retreat to Canada, as he too felt too much pain from avoiding Dr. Isles and needed to sort his thoughts. She came back to him, but to discuss the presiding murder case, involving victims mutilated to look like historic Christian martyrs. He accurately identifies which victims are posed as which saints, as they share the same birthdays as the saints' execution dates. In the end, Father Brophy returns again to spend the night with Dr. Isles, only to return to his clerical duties.
