~ Daniel's introduction. |
Daniel the Demonslayer is a minor character from Smiling Friends who appears in the episode "Erm, the Boss Finds Love?"
He is portrayed by Doug Walker from The Nostalgia Critic.
Appearance[]
He is a middle-aged, Caucasian, adult male with thick, straight shoulder-length dark hair, an anchor beard, and cheek whiskers. He wears a black hat and a matching leather coat. He wears black eyeliner and a giant, silver crucifix necklace. In his videos, he is illuminated by a red light.
Personality[]
Daniel is a charismatic and enthusiastic demon-slayer, benevolently dedicating his time to teaching others about his methods and appearing to be very knowledgable on the subject. He also embodies typical YouTuber cliches, such as dedicating large chunks of his videos to sponsors and telling viewers to like, subscribe, and hit the bell.
Biography[]
After discovering that Mr. Boss' new wife, Brittney, intends to drain his soul and seize all of his belongings, Charlie finds a video by Daniel the Demonslayer titled "How 2 kill the 'Filla Diabulus' demon p1 (Tutorial)" and watches it with Pim and Allan. In the video, Daniel introduces himself and promises to teach the viewer how to slay the Filla Diabulus, but only after a lengthy sponsored section dedicated to Dollar Shave Club that nearly fills the entire video. Charlie skips the advertising segment, after which Daniel briefly explains that the only way to slay the Filla Diabulus is to drain its blood on a full moon, accompanied by him making theatrical ghost noises. Daniel closes the video reminding the viewer to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell, but Charlie shuts the laptop before the outro segment finishes.
Trivia[]
- Daniel is portrayed Doug Walker, also known as the Nostalgia Critic. Doug is someone who Zach Hadel, series co-creator, and his circle of friends have been avid fans of for years, which is likely why he took the role. Doug did a review of the first season of Smiling Friends, which can be viewed here.
- The introduction in Daniel's video is a reference to how Doug's character, the Nostalgia Critic, usually starts his videos, and the entire character seems to be an homage to the Nostalgia Critic
