In the season three premiere "Brilliant Lies", Danni makes her first appearance entering the Undercover unit headquarters on her first day as part of the team, introducing herself to Peter Church and Oscar Stone as soon as she arrives, and she embarrasses Church when he tries to lie to her by saying he's the boss of the unit. Danni then meets Ellen "Mac" MacKenzie and Angie Piper, and is later shown around the headquarters by Angie, before being tasked with her first assignment, which is for her and Stone to work in surveilance covering Church's back, as he's on the field working undercover at a ministore to protect the owner Mr. Rafferty, and to entrap a gang of teenage thieves who previously failed to rob the place thanks to Mr. Rafferty. However, Danni becomes bored with waiting in the surveilance, and tries to warn a woman near the ATM to stay alert, only for Danni to get pepper sprayed when the woman misunderstands her motives. This causes some in the unit, more particularly Church. that she's not suited to the job. However, Danni later explains to Mac that she's more suited on the field, prompting Mac to have Danni take over working undercover in the ministore in place of Church. The next day, when Danni is in the ministore with Mr. Rafferty, the three thieves arrive to both rob the place and kidnap Mr. Rafferty. Danni confronts them at first, but then surrenders her gun to them, and is forced to get the van ready for the thieves so that they can escape. Unbeknownst to them, Danni placed the store phone behind the driver seat of the van, and she later tells this to Mac and Church just when they nearly berate her once again. Danni, Mac and Church then track down the location of the van to an abandoned factory, where they observe the thieves arguing at one another about whether not or not to kill Mr. Rafferty, allowing Danni, Mac and Church to stage an ambush, with Danni kicking one of the thieves, Muddy, to the ground before he can shoot Church, while Mac shoots the second thief in the shoulder. Mac becomes impressed with Danni's efforts, and they later stop at the bottle shop to get some celebratory drinks. However, while Danni is buying the drinks, Mac observes the third thief, who had escaped during the ambush, outside the bottle shop and alerts Danni to this when she gets back into the car. Giving them an opportunity to take the thief down when she tries to rob the place using a needle with her blood as a weapon. However, despite taking the thief down, Danni is horrified when Mac is stuck with the needle near her elbow. Prompting Danni to take Mac to a clinic to test the needle for HIV, Danni is later asked by Mac to keep this a secret from the rest of the unit, which Danni struggles to agree with. They later make it to a seemingly empty headquarters, only for Mac to be surprised by the rest of the unit as they clelebrate her promotion to Detective Senior Sergeant. While the unit celebrates, Danni answers the phone in Mac's office, and tells Mac that Dr. Gresham is on the phone. Danni appears concerned for Mac when notices her change of expression, realizing that the needle that Mac was stuck with had HIV-positive blood in it. In the following episodes, Danni manages to convince Mac to tell the rest of the unit about what happened, although Mac only mentions it to Angie and Church first before telling the rest of the unit. Eventually, the unit, including Danni, is relieved when it's revealed that Mac does not have HIV.
In season four, Danni has a one night stand with Peter Church, which causes Danni to become pregnant. Danni later tells Church about her pregnancy in the season four finale, and is surprised when he decides her and the baby. In season five, Danni and Church buy a house so that they can raise their baby together. However, they later discover that their baby has a condition that would later result in its death if born, and Danni makes the difficult decision to terminate her pregnancy, devastating both her and Church.
Late into season five, Danni becomes concerned about Church’s well-being when it seems like he’s getting paranoid that a target of his, Denny Kaplan, is stalking him. However, she and Church later discover that Kaplan is actually after her when he harasses her in a carpark. Church tries to convince Danni to report him, but she refuses, pointing out that Church could be forced out of the unit. Church then decides to head out, Danni asks him where he’s going, but Church tells her it’s best she doesn’t know, as he decides to confronts and attack Kaplan, warning him to back off from the both of them. The next day, Danni is told by Church that Kaplan’s been sorted, and will back off. However, as soon as they head out the front door of their house, they are targeted in a drive-by shooting at their home. Danni is reassured by Church that Kaplan had nothing to do with it, telling her that it was likely the targets of his current investigation. Some time later, Danni is shocked when Church shows up with bruises and cuts, and is told by him that he killed Kaplan in self-defence after Kaplan tried to pull a gun on him which led to a brawl. Danni convinces him to go back to Kaplan’s house so that they can report what happened, and that she’ll go with him as well. However, when they get to Kaplan’s house, they are shocked to find both Kaplan’s body and any traces of blood completely missing, allowing Danni to convince a confused Church that Kaplan is still alive, and must have escaped. However, some time later, Danni and Church find out that Kaplan’s body was found in a shallow grave in Albury. When Church becomes a person of interest by the Homicide unit, Danni tells them everything about Kaplan stalking them both. This unintentionally leads to Church being wanted for Kaplan’s murder, despite Danni’s insistence that Kaplan survived the fight with Church. Some time later, Danni is told by Mac to get some firearms ready, as Church, Angie and Stone are at a hospital protecting Angie’s fiancée Marty Engle from an assassination attempt. Danni and Mac both make it to the hospital in time to arrest the assassin, but not before he shoots Stone multiple times. Danni and the rest of the unit are later present when Stone later dies from his injuries as he placed a NFR directive on himself preventing the doctors from reviving him. Danni later attends Stone's funeral with Church, who is finally cleared of Kaplan’s death, and the rest of the unit, where Danni listens to Church’s eulogy for Stone before his coffin is laid to rest.
In season six, Danni, Angie and Church adjust to the new changes of the Undercover unit, now permutated into Special Investigations following Mac’s resignation and the arrival of their new boss Luke Harris, before later being joined by new operative Christina Dichiera, who had earlier mistakenly arrested Angie and Church during a sting operation. As Danni mostly busy with undercover work, she does not get actively involved with Angie and Church’s attempts to find Stone’s killer Kieran Frances Conrad after he escapes from police custody.
Danni is tasked with supervising Chris as she works on surveillance against a video rental store for fraud. However, she and Church also look on as Harris interrogates Ronnie Burgess, who Church took down while undercover for drug trafficking, and become disgusted when Harris implies that he’ll arrest Ronnie’s wife and have their son sent into foster care. Ronnie agrees to give the name of his supplier in exchange for no jail time and witness protection. Harris later invites Danni and the rest of the unit (excluding Dichiera) for drinks at the pub, seemingly easing tension between Danni and the rest of the unit toward Harris. Danni stays back with Harris after Angie and Church leaves, and Danni is shocked when Harris drunkenly kisses her before leaving. The next day, the unit finds out that Ronnie’s changed his mind about making a statement, as the supplier has kidnapped his son Max. They later manage to convince Ronnie to give the name of the supplier, who is revealed to be Tony Rawlinson. Danni and Church observe Rawlinson with Max at his house, only for Ronnie’s wife to show up at the front door demanding her son back, prompting Church to try and rescue Max, which ultimately results in Church and Rawlinson brawling in the street. Danni looks on in horror as Max is killed after being hit by a car, and she and Church are confronted by Harris who is angry with them, more specifically with Danni as she was supposed to be helping Chris out. It’s later revealed that the surveillance operation towards the video store was actually linked to drugs, not fraud, and that Rawlinson owns the video store. Danni and the rest of the unit soon find out that Harris knew about this and withheld this information, meaning that he indirectly caused Max’s death. Harris intends to charge the girl working at the video store, Macey Wright for drug trafficking, but Danni and Chris, believing that Macey was innocent, convince him to let Chris go undercover to investigate Macey’s boss Steve Sinclair, and to cause tension between Rawlinson and Sinclair by cutting the cocaine with baking powder. This ultimately backfires however, as Rawlinson shows up and attacks Sinclair, biting his nose off, before shutting down his drug operation.
Intending to lure Rawlinson back into the frame, Danni decides to go undercover, and shows up to the video rental store to talk to Rawlinson while Chris and Macey are there, managing to convince him to supply her with half a kilo of cocaine. This is almost sidetracked when Macey blows Chris’ cover to Sinclair after he shows up and attacks her, accusing her of cutting the cocaine that led to Rawlinson biting his nose off. Despite this, knowing that Harris will renege on Macey’s deal if the operation falls apart, Danni decides to continue on with setting up the meeting with Rawlinson. However, the deal never takes place as Rawlinson is later found dead in his car, having been shot in the head. Harris later accuses Macey of being responsible for Rawlinson’s murder, and decides to renege on Macey’s deal and charge her with drug trafficking. Danni soon confronts Harris about this, who tells her Rawlinson’s superiors took him out thanks to the heat on them, and believes that Macey told them. Angered that Harris once again withheld crucial information, more specifically that Rawlinson worked for someone else, and that he intends to send an innocent woman to jail, Danni reveals that Sinclair knew about the operation after Chris’ cover was blown. This ultimately leads to a massive argument between Danni and Harris in his office, with Danni pointing out that Harris again withheld information from her, and states that his approach has cost them the operation and put a permanent mark against her record, but Harris angrily responds back that Danni shouldn’t worry about her record before telling her that she’s fired. Shocked and angered by this, Danni grabs Harris’ football trophy from the table and smashes it towards the bookcase before storming out of his office. Angie and Church are devastated with Harris’ decision to sack Danni, and try to convince her to appeal it, but she refuses. Danni then says her goodbyes to Angie and Church before Harris turns up asking her to come to his office, where he admits to her that he went too far, and tells Danni that she’s not fired after all. But Danni decides to resign instead, telling Harris that she can’t work with him as there’s been too much blood around him since he repeatedly withheld information from her and the rest of the unit that had ultimately led to Max Burgess and Rawlinson’s deaths. Harris tells her that he releases information where he sees fit, but Danni points out that his operatives including herself never know what situation they’re stepping in, which is too dangerous. Danni then tells Harris that she can’t accept Harris’ style of command, as although she keeps her secrets on the field, she prefers to be direct and honest with the team, suggesting to Harris that he try it out. Nevertheless, just before Danni leaves Harris’ office, he tells her that she is welcome to return to the unit anytime. Danni then leaves the unit with a smile on her face, having kept her integrity intact. In the following episode "Old Scores", Church tells Angie and Chris that Danni had moved out of their house and moved interstate, wanting to move as far away as she could.

Quotes[]
“ | Danni: There’s too much blood around you, Inspector. At the beginning of this operation, a young boy died... because you chose not to reveal your strategy to us. And now our key target’s dead, because you wouldn’t tell me the full story. Harris: I release information as I see fit. Danni: Which means your operatives never know what they’re stepping into, it’s just too dangerous. Harris: My style of command might be a bit different to what you’re used to… Danni: (laughs) Look, it’s a style of command I can’t work with. Out there on the field, I keep my secrets. In here, I’m open... and I’m honest. You should try it sometime. |
