You befriended them? And then you disobeyed me to protect them?! ...I'm impressed. I had you all wrong. You're what, sixteen? It's about time you made connections outside the castle.
~ Darius showing his kindness to Hunter telling how impressed he was when he stood up to him.

Darius Deamonne is a supporting protagonist in the Disney Channel series The Owl House, serving as an unseen protagonist in Season 1, a false antagonist/supporting character in Season 2 and a minor character in Season 3.

He is the flamboyant Head Witch of the Abomination Coven who, while appearing stuck-up and haughty, is actually a caring and pleasant man aside from his ego. This would spur him to rebel against Emperor Belos with his fellow Head Witch Eberwolf after sensing something fishy about the Day of Unity, later teaming up with Raine and their allies to stop the Draining Spell.

He is voiced by Keston John.

Personality[]

At first, Darius was thought to be working for Emperor Belos and was shown to be rather rude towards his allies, as shown when he called Eberwolf "mutt" after they crawled over him. He also has shown to be quite prideful of his appearance and hated getting dirty. As leader of the Abomination Coven he views his way of using Abominations to be superior while he views other people's use of them as inferior like Alador using Abomatons.

However, it was later revealed that he has a softer side and appreciates those who make friends and don't dedicate their entire lives to their job, as he believed Hunter did. After realizing Hunter wasn't as he thought he was, he was willing to keep Flapjack a secret from the Emperor, as well as provide a scroll for the boy to allow him access to social media. He was also willing to take unwilling recruits back home instead of to coven training after they were scouted.

It was also later revealed that he was quite suspicious of the Day of Unity and wanted to help Raine stop it.

Appearance[]

Darius has dark brown skin, bright green eyes, and abomination-like hair. He wears a black chest plate with a gold collar, purple studs and pointed shoulders, light purple pants, white mid-length gloves, and white-heeled boots with violet toes. He also wears a magenta side cape with violet details at the edges.

Biography[]

Darius first appears in "Hunting Palismen" along with the other coven leaders where he hears about Belos' plan with the Day of Unity.

He later appears in "Eda's Requiem" along with the leader of the Beast Keeping Coven, Eberwolf. They trick the Bards Against the Throne (BATs.) into a trap and send them to the conformatorium as punishment for their crimes against the Emperor. They later fight off against Eda and Raine Whispers with Darius transforming into a large abomination. He is later caught in Eda's cursed Bard magic which drains his powers, but quickly regains them once Raine stops the spell. He and Eberwolf later catch Raine, but they escape and is captured by Kikimora with help from an Abomaton.

In "Any Sport in a Storm", Darius seems to express incredible dislike for Hunter, claiming he is not deserving of his position, also claiming he only has it due to being Belos' nephew. Hunter decides to prove his worth to Darius and the other Coven Heads by finding recruits for the Emperor's Coven, only to find that the strict regulations that Coven must follow are not widely believed to be an even trade-off for the benefits. After Hunter at least manages to win the respect of Willow, Gus, and several other students, a group of Coven guards working for Darius appear and abduct the students, claiming Darius plans to forcibly induct them. This leads Hunter to attempt a rescue by boarding Darius' airship, but this only results in he and the students soundly beaten by the far-more experienced Darius. However, Darius then reveals this had been done to test Hunter - he releases the students and apologizes to his previous unkind words, suggesting Hunter start being more social outside the palace.

In "Hollow Mind" it is revealed that the loyalty Darius shows towards Belos is a ruse, as he, along with Eberwolf and Raine, attempt a ritual to enter Belos' mind, possibly with the intent to assassinate him. Later, after the ritual is botched and Hunter and Luz are trapped there instead, they deliver a message to Eda giving her information on how to craft a spell to save him. This episode also hints at a motive for Darius' covert activities, as a painting showing Hunter's predecessor in Belos' mind also shows Darius, who seems very sad. Possibly, he knows of the horrible fates that have befallen the previous Golden Guards, which Belos likely intends for Hunter.

In "O Titan, Where Art Thou", he and the other members of the resistance rescue Eda and Luz from Belos' forces during a prisoner transit, revealing their true loyalties. Raine claims their group is named "Covens Against the Throne" or C.A.T.s, a name Darius clearly does not approve of.

In "Clouds on the Horizon" and King's Tide", Darius and C.A.T.s, plan to corrupt the draining spell using the Owl Beast from Eda. Darius, Eberwolf, and Eda (disguise as Raine) were gathering with the other coven Heads and getting to stop the draining spell. However, Terra Snapdragon and Adrien figure out their plan causing them fight until they are forced to surrender. Darius then watches helplessly as the Draining spell takes affect, realizing they were too late. He then collapes and is discover by Hunter, Willow Park, Gus Porter, Amity Blight, and King Clawthorne Hunter tries to wake him, but failed.

He was later saved when King free the Collector to stop the draining spell.

In "For the Future", Darius was turn into a puppet along with Coven heads and used to guard Eda's room while she was still the Owl beast. Fortunately, in "Watching and Dreaming". he's reverted and in the epilogue, assists in developing the process of removing Coven sigils while rekindling his friendship with Alador. He later attends Luz's birthday with the rest of the cast.

Trivia[]

  • Darius seemed to have taken on a parental role with Hunter if the scenes that involve them are anything to go by.
  • Thanks to his hair seeming to be made of an abomination-like fluid, some have theorised that Darius's innards are completely made of abomination fluid except for his skin, while others believe that Darius's hair could be his palisman disguising itself on the top of his head.
