The Dark Angels are the very first of the Adeptus Astartes and are among the most revered and powerful Space Marine Legions. Lead by their Primarch Lion El'Jonson, they have served The Imperium of Man faithfully for over ten thousand years, and despite their proud history are one of the most secretive Legions, chosen by The Emperor of Mankind to safeguard and wield forbidden weapons and relics of unimaginable power and origins. There is however a deep darkness to them, as in their crusade to keep the galaxy safe for humanity many xeno races have been viciously purged from existence by them. Their Legion is also a broken one, with a sizable number of their forces turning traitor and becoming The Fallen, a fact that the Dark Angels violently try to keep secret.

As the first of all Space Marines, the Dark Angels have a level of reverence and might that at times was comparable to the Ultramarines. As they were the first, they do not have any major specialties like their blue garbed cousins and instead are capable combatants in any and all situations with a wide array of weapons and tactics. Being the first of The Emperor's Angels however grants them the right to wield lost technology of ancient times and vast power and are also able to perform magical rituals to empower themselves using sorcery lost to time. Their three primary factions are; the Deathwing Terminators, powerful and durable frontline warriors, the Ravenwing for aerial and vehicle assaults, and the Greenwing, their standard Space Marine units. They also style themselves heavily off of classical era knights.

- Similar to how the Space Wolves are designed as Vikings and the Ultramarines as Romans, the Dark Angels design is heavily inspired by classic fantasy knights.
