The Dark Krakens are recurring protagonists of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise.

They are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter and one of the successor Chapters of the Salamanders. Of all of the (official) Salamander successors, they hold true to their original Chapter's beliefs the most, and as such are valiant defenders of humanity and are famously known for their exceptional compassion and noble dedication in protecting the innocent.

Attributes[]

While the Dark Krakens are fierce and selfless protectors just as their predecessors, their specialized gear is wholly the opposite of the Salamanders. Hailing from the death world of Naktis, instead of wielding weapons of flame, the Dark Krakens have adapted to instead weaponize water and are right at home beneath the tides. Like the burning flames of the Salamanders, their weapons unleash devastating torrents of water and as they are composed entirely of Primaris Marines, their standard Astartes equipment and creation is to the highest degree.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being the one official Salamander successor Chapter that behaves and functions the closest to the sons of Vulkan, the Dark Krakens have ironic features in sharp, opposite contrast to their predecessors.
    • Unlike Nocturne which is permanently ravaged by magma and flames, their homeworld of Naktis has been completely overtaken by the seas and has constant, violent storms.
    • Adapting to their aquatic environment, they do not use fire weaponry and instead have created weapons that instead use water.
  • The reason it is stated that the Dark Krakens are the most compassionate official successor of the Salamanders is due to the other successor Chapter that are also as heroic and kind, the Black Dragons, who were born from the notorious Cursed Founding.
