The Dark Urge (also known as Durge) is one of the main protagonists (and one of the overarching antagonists pre-amnesia) of the 2023 fantasy RPG video game, Baldur's Gate III and the main antagonist of its prequel novel, Blood in Baldur's Gate.
He's a mysterious amnesiac individual that suffers from a "violent urge" which they can either embrace or resist, depending on the player's choice. It is later revealed that he's a Bhaalspawn, being a child of Bhaal, the Lord of Murder and was his Chosen, being one of the masterminds behind the Cult of the Absolute, alongside Lord Enver Gortash. Before his scheme could be succeeded, he was betrayed by his subordinate and kin-sister, Orin, who wanted to take over his position as the Chosen of Bhaal. This leads to the Urge's amnesia.
Depending on the player's choices, The Dark Urge can either be a remorseful and tragic atoner who rejects his violet urges, or be the malevolent and sadistic cold-hearted monster he was in his past life.
His default voice is voiced by Neil Roberts.
Appearance[]
The Dark Urge's basic appearance is that of an albino Dragonborn. Although the player can change his appearance and gender to however they see fit.
Personality[]
The Dark Urge's personality is largely determined by the player.
Trivia[]
- He appears in the game, "Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms" where he can chose a path that switches his alignment to Lawful Good.
- He is often nicknamed "Durge" by the fandom in order to shorten his name.
- He appears as a corpse in Orin's room if the player choses a custom character (Tav) or one of the other Origin Companions.
