Data is the fourth hero in the 1985 movie The Goonies. Data is an inventive goonie who lives next door to the Walsh famliy. He a big fan of James Bond, he likes adventure and does not hesitate to look for that treasure after they have found the map.
In the journey it is he who takes the "monster" that is in the locked basement, and becomes his friend. After they have saved their city, everyone returns to being happy and with the treasure left over from the ship's fall.

- Data and his father both share an interest in inventing.
- Data is a fan of the fictional character James Bond. He has "007" scrawled onto his belt and listens to the James Bond theme while ziplining down from his house.
- James Bond producer Albert Broccoli used the musical notes from Close Encounters of the Third Kind in the 1979 film Moonraker. As thanks, Broccoli permitted Steven Spielberg to use the James Bond theme without payment of royalties in any of his movies. This was seen during Data's ziplining attempt into the Walsh residence.
