Why did you have to fight him, Mark? Why did you did you have to drive him away?
~ Debbie to Mark after his fight with Omni-Man.

Deborah "Debbie" Grayson is a major character in the Image Comics comic series Invincible and its 2021 animated adaptation of the same name.

She is the wife of alien superhero Nolan Grayson and mother of the main protagonist; Mark, who would later become a superhero. When Debbie learns about Nolan's true allegiance and motives, she begins to question everything she ever knew about him and what they built together. She struggles to come to terms with the fact that the man she thought she knew and loved was nothing more than an illusion. Debbie is ultimately left devastated knowing that she is married to the man who murdered thousands of innocent people, including the Guardians of the Globe and nearly took the life of their own son, as well as being merely dismissed by him as a "pet" despite the 20 years they spent together. Debbie tries her best to continue her journey and stay strong for those who still need her and does what's best to protect what remains of her family being her two sons, Mark and Oliver.

She is voiced by Sandra Oh.

Appearance[]

In General[]

Debbie is depicted as an attractive woman in her late 30s to early 40s, with a natural and approachable beauty.

Comics[]

In the comics, Debbie is illustrated as Caucasian woman with medium-length dark hair, often styled simply but elegantly, reflecting her practical and down-to-earth personality. She typically wears casual, comfortable clothing suitable for her role as a homemaker, such as jeans and blouses.

Animated Series[]

In the animated series, Debbie's appearance is closely aligned with her comic book counterpart but with few minor changes. She is a korean woman and her dark hair is similarly styled, usually loose or in a casual updo, and her wardrobe consists of practical outfits. Her character design includes subtle details like soft lines and natural colors, making her look slightly more realistic.

Personality[]

Debbie is portrayed as a strong, intelligent, and deeply compassionate individual. As the mother of Mark and Oliver, and also the wife of Nolan Grayson, Debbie's personality is a vital anchor within the tumultuous world of superheroes, providing a sense of normalcy and stability amidst the chaos.

Debbie is characterized by her resilience and fortitude. Throughout the series, she faces numerous challenges, from raising her son Mark to dealing with the shocking revelations about her husband Nolan. Despite these difficulties, Debbie remains steadfast and determined, exhibiting an inner strength that allows her to support her family through their trials. Her resilience is particularly evident when she confronts the truth about Nolan's true nature and his actions, managing to hold herself together for the sake of her son.

Her intelligence and practicality are other defining traits of her personality. Debbie is often the voice of reason, offering grounded and sensible advice to Mark as he navigates his dual life as a teenager and a superhero. She approaches problems with a level-headedness that contrasts with the often impulsive and emotional responses of those around her. This practicality helps her manage the complexities of her life, from running the household to dealing with extraordinary circumstances involving superhuman beings.
