~ Deku Princess barking at her servants to release the monkey |
The Deku Princess is one of the minor but pivotal character in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. She is the princess as well as the heiress to the throne of the Deku Kingdom. She is known to be dignified and a formal, expected of that of the princess and was known to take action when something goes awry. However, she is known for becoming temperamental and scary when angered, which is shown when she yells at her Deku subjects, and they fear her wrath.
Biography[]
The Deku Princess had lived peacefully in the Deku Palace with her father, the Deku King and several other of her subjects, including the Foolish Monkey, whom she befriended. This eventually came to an end when the Skull Kid, under the influence of Majora's Mask, cursed the Woodfall Temple and stations a monster inside. The Southern Swamp is soon poisoned which had disrupted the Dekus' way of life. The Deku Princess refuses to sit idly by and accompanies the monkey to investigate Woodfall Temple where the poison was seeping from. However, they are soon ambushed, and the Deku Princess was taken captive by a primal warrior, Odolwa who then imprisons her in the depths of the temple which then sinks back into the depths of the poisoned swamp water. These series of events have resulted in the monkey being framed for Odolwa's actions and was unfairly arrested for a crime he never committed.
When Link, as a Deku arrives, he saw the Dekus in panic; while the Deku King blames the monkey for the Princess's fate, the monkey stands by his innocence and instructs Link to take a shortcut through the Palace Outer Gardens. Once Link sneaks inside the cell, the monkey tells the tale of events that led to the uproar Link is witnessing. When Link brings out the Deku Pipes, the monkey recognized the instrument and tells him that the Deku Princess used her Deku Pipes to bring Woodfall Temple to the surface and quietly teaches Link the Sonata of Awakening, hoping that he would save the Princess and clear up the misunderstanding.
After Odolwa is defeated and the swamp water now purified and safe for swimming, Link is teleported to the Woodfall Temple's cell where he slices the vines. The Deku Tree thanks Link for saving her and asks if the monkey asked him to free her. She is happy to learn that the monkey has managed to make it back just fine. She initially wasn't worried at all, when she recounts her fears that if she didn't return, her father would believe that the monkey abducted her, and he would go as far as to punish him. However, it soon hits her when she asks Link if he is serious and that her father was actually doing that. Extremely agitated, she frantically pleads Link to bring her back to the palace immediately and tells him that she doesn't care about tight spaces as she needs to get back home. Link places her in a bottle and makes his way back to the palace.
Placing the Deku Mask back on, Link gets into the palace where Link releases the Deku Princess from the bottle. The Deku King was relieved to see her safe, but the Deku Princess was still mad as she jumps on the king and screeches at the servants to release the monkey. The monkey was then set free, and the Deku Princess apologizes and explains that her father does rash and unwise actions when it comes to her safety. The monkey forgives them and thanks Link for keeping his promise. As a reward for saving her, the Deku Princess directs Link to the Deku Shrine where the Deku Butler was waiting so he can give Link the Mask of Scents.
During one of the end credits scenes, the Deku Princess is seen alongside the Deku King, the monkey, and the other Deku Palace Guards.
