Eventually, Denji's father attacked his son so viscously the young boy was forced to kill him in self defense, this event was so traumatic, Denji repressed the memory of what he did. The Yakuza then forces Denji to pay off the debt in his father place threatening to murder him if he doesn't meet his pay quotas. As Denji is mourning his father's death at his grave he finds Pochita aka ethe original Chainsaw Devil. However Pochita is heavily injured thus Denji offers to heal him with his blood on the condition they form a contract so he can use Pochita to pay off his debt. Over the years the two bond together as friends as the young-boy also convinced his boss to keep Pochita since the dog might be a valuable asset in finding money.
Public Safety Saga[]
Intro arc[]

Deni and Pochita being killed.
Years later a now sixteen year old Denji becomes a private devil hunter killing devils for a quick buck to pay off his debt like taking down a Tomato devil for the Debt Collector. He also chops down trees and sells his own body parts like his eye and one of his testicles. However despite his efforts the debt collector pays him a miniscule amount for his services which is barley enough to cover food, water and rent so all Denji can afford for dinner is a measly slice of bread. A member of the Yakuza then drives up and offers Denji 100 yen to eat a cigarette to which he immediately accepts desperate for money but spits it out as soon as the Yakuza leaves. Denji then goes back to his house to eat the bread he bought with Pochita. Denji then laments that he probably won't be able to pay off debt before he dies and voices his dream to get a girlfriend, and eat jam with bread. However suddenly Denji coughs up blood just as his mother did causing him and Pochita much concern. Suddenly the Debt Collector knocks on his door and gives him a new devil hunting job. He drives Pochita and Denji to a abandoned warehouse and although the Debt Collector is grateful for Denji's loyalty but nonetheless betrays and stabs him in the chest. The old man explains that they made a contract with the Zombie Devil in exchange for it lending them its powers, and it was a foolish decision since the Zombie Devil cannot grant them anything except turning them into mindless zombies. Denji and Pochita were then shredded by the minions of the Zombie Devil, and killed, with their remains being thrown into a dumpster. Denji then hallucinates Pochita and wonder if he took over his body just like her offered. However, Pochita has a better idea he claims that he will resurrect Denji by becoming his heart and in exchange all he asks is that Denji continue to follow his dreams.

Denji transforms into Chainsaw Man for the first time.
Denji then emerges from the dumpster anew with a chainsaw starter cord on his chest now a devil-human hybrid much to the Zombie Devil's shock. Denji questions them on the Yakuza on futility of even making a contract with the Zombie Devil when they have all the power they wanted. Denji then decides that if they are going to get in the way of achieving his and Pochita's dreams then they needed to die. Denji then pulls the starter cord on his chest and transforms into a devil with chainsaws protruding out of his arms and head and attacks his assailants. Denji cheerfully notes with the Yakuza gone, he won't have anybody to pay debts to, thus freeing himself from them. After eliminating the Yakuza zombies, Denji slices up the Zombie Devil and his minions.

Denji meets Makima
After the massacre a group of Public Safety Devil Hunters agents enter the warehouse and spot Denji. One of the agents a beautiful young woman walks up to Denji and hugs him. This causes Denji to revert back to his human form. Although one of the agents assumes him to be a fiend the girl does not believe this to be the case. She then tells Denji that she is a devil hunter from public safety and since her job is to kill devils she is inclined to slay Denji now that he is one. However she offers to spare him in exchange for becoming her "pet" and even offers him good food like bread with jam. Denji seduced by the woman's charms easily accepts. The two then get into a car and Denji starts to get hungry. The woman then offers to buy him food and they stop at a restaurant. Suddenly a man runs into the store and explains his daughter was kidnapped by a muscle devil. The woman then forces Denji to rescue the man's daughter although Denji is hesitant the woman threatens him saying she doesn't need a pet that says no only "yes" or "woof". Denji then is forced to fight the Muscle Devil. He runs into a field and actually finds the muscle devil and the girl playing. The girl explains that her and the Muscle Devil are friends and begs her not to kill it. Denji, being reminded of his relationship with Pochita agrees. However this was a ruse and it's revealed the Muscle Devil took over the girls body and intends to kill Denji for interfering. However, Denji manages to defeat the devil and rescue the girl. Back at the restaurant Denji passes out from the blood loss he sustains while in his chainsaw form. When he wakes up the woman gives him udon as if he were a dog eating treats. The woman finally introduces herself as Makima and although Denji shows sadness and remorse for Pochita's "death", Makima reassures him stating that Pochita lives on as his heart, she can apparently tell because of her keen sense of smell. Denji then asks Makima want kind of guy she like to which she responds the "Denji kind", much to Denji's pleasure.

Denji kicks Aki in the testicles.
After Makima provides him the promised treat, Denji is taken to the Public Saftey headquarters and given a uniform for his job. However much to his chagrin he is assigned as a junior to Aki Hayakawa. Although Denji is sad to learn he won't be working with Makima, he is assured by the latter that if he does his job well he might get to work with her someday. Aki and Denji go on a patrol only for former to be irritated at Denji's supposed lax nature, lack of seriousness and his crush on Makima. Aki then beats Denji up in an alley and tells him that with his ridiculous goals and aspirations he is not worthy of being a devil hunter and tells him to just leave. However Denji runs up and kicks Aki in the balls telling him that his reason for being a devil hunter as well as his dreams are just as important as anyone else. The two get into a fight where Denji kicks Aki in the balls so many times he collapses from his injuries. Denji carries him back to Makima and lies to her saying he got attacked by a testicle devil to which Aki attemps to tell Makima the truth to no avail. Denji then moves in with Aki in his apartment and gets to live the life he always dreamed of. He gets three square meals a day, can finally take baths, sleep in a bed and best of all eat toast with jam.
Later Aki and Denji are assigned to a house to kill a Fiend. Denji is confused as he doesn't know what a fiend is to which Aki tells explains that a fiend is a devil that takes control of a human corpse. They enter the house and find the fiend feasting on bird. Aki orders Denji to use his powers and kill the fiend but Denji simply uses his axe to decapitate it and be done with it. Aki questions why he didn't just transform and kill it to which Denji explains that going into his chainsaw form hurts him and he wanted the fiend to die quick and painless. Aki gets angered by this and tells Denji that a devil killed his family and if he sees an opportunity to make one suffer he would take it. As Aki leaves Denji privately admits he just didn't want to get blood all over the porn magazines the fiend had. Denji thinks about how he is content with the way he lives but he desires something else. It's at that moment he has an epiphany he makes it his next goal to fondle a woman's boobs.
Bat Devil arc[]

Denji is introduced to Power.
The next day Makima announces that going forward Denji will be assigned with a partner, a fiend named Power. Denji quickly grows suspicious of her finding it unethical for a fiend to be a devil hunter, but his mind quickly changes one he see's that Power is a hot girl with large breasts. Later Power and Denji go on patrol out in the city in which Power annoys him with her arrogant attitude and spoiled nature. Denji questions why there are no devils in the area to which Power claims that it likely due to her presence as she used to be the powerful Blood Devil. Denji is upset at this as he wanted to kill more devil to impress Makima. Suddenly Power smells something in the distance a Sea Cucumber Devil and promptly yet sadistically kills it much to Denji's shock and horror. Makima finds out about the incident and displays disappointment int the two for attacking a devil that was being hunted by a private devil hunter. Power tries to pin the blame on Denji to avoid Makima's wrath but Denji denies this and the two get into a argument before being broken up by Makima. Later in a public safet breakroom Denji kicks back and gets drinks from a vending machine. It's here Power explains that she only joined Public Safety to rescue her pet cat Meowy from the Bat Devil. Denji shows little sympathy nor care for her situation until Power offers Denji the chance to grope her boobs in return which quickly fires up Denji and giver him motivation to rescue Meowy. On the way to the Bat Devil's location Denji tells Power about his own pet, Pochita and how he died but still lives on in his heart, Power calls this notion ridiculous however.

Denji saves Power.
The two then approach a abandoned house but to his shock Power betrays Denji and knocks him out intending to feed him to the Bat Devil in exchange for Meowy. When Denji wakes up he finds himself in the cluthces of the Bat Devil who consumes some of his blood and regrows his arm. The Bat Devil however betrays and devours Power and Meowy whole. Denji quicky transforms into Chainsaw Man and takes down the Bat Devil freeing Power and her cat, although he infers he only did so to grope Power's breasts as promised. Suddenly however the Bat Devil's ex-girlfriend the Leech Devil appears and cuts off Denji's arm, although she is upset about Bat's death she is willing to spare Denji because she thinks he is "cute" but is still intent to kill Power and Meowy. Despite, Denji losing alot of blood and being barley able to transform he is intent to fight the Leech Devil to achieve his goal of squeezing Power's boobs. However, Denji is too weak to beat the Leech but is rescued by Aki and his Fox Devil. Denji is taken to the hospital and is informed that his arm automatically reattached when he got a blood transfusion revealing that he can regenerate from fatal injuries like a devil. Denji calls out Aki's hypocrisy for hating Devil even though he used the Fox Devil to kill the Leech. Aki claims that he simply made a contract with the Devil and it's nothing friendly. Aki warns Denji to be careful near Power as a fiend is no different from a regular Devil, but Denji disagrees as he thinks Power is genuinely good at heart.

Makima seduces Denji.
Later on Denji and Aki are informed by Makima that Power will be living with them from now on, much to their annoyance as she refuses to eat vegetables, take baths or even flush the toilet. However, Power honors her agreement with Denji and allows him to fondle her breasts three times. The first time he does so he realizes Power is wearing breast pads meaning they weren't that big to begin with. After fondling her breasts he feels a sense of dissatisfaction with the act. Later, Makima has Denji fill out paperwork during which he confides about his disappointment with fondling his first breasts. Makima then explains to Denji that the reason he felt no pleasure in the act was likely because he needed a emotional connection with the person he is getting physical with. Makima the has Denji touch one of her breast causing him collapse on the ground in shock and disbelief. Makima then tells Denji that she has a new task for him; he must kill an extremely powerful devil, one that has killed millions of people and is feared world wide, that devil being none other than the Gun Devil. Makima then sweetens the deal and offers Denji one request and it can be anything he likes. Denji then becomes intent to kill the Gun Devil and gain said request.
Eternity Devil arc[]

Himeno offering Denji a French kiss if he beats the Eternity Devil.
To start his quest to kill the Gun Devil Denji, Power, Aki are sent to abandoned hotel to retrive a peice of the Gun Devil's flesh. They are accompanied by their fellow hunters Hirokazu Arai, Kobeni Higashiyama, and Himeno. Although the Denji is initially reluctant to go in the hotel Himeno quickly motivates them by offering whoever kills the devil a kiss, and not just any kiss a French kiss. Inside the hotel they come to a stunning realization, no matter where they go they always end up back in the eighth floor meaning they are trapped inside the hotel. Suddenly a small devil attacks the group but is taken down by Power and Himeno. The heroes then decide to rest in one of the hotel rooms, although everyone panics Denji shows no care and takes a nap in one of the beds much to his compatriots shock and annoyance. However when he awakens he is informed that the devil they killed earlier has grown bigger. The devil introduces himself as the Eternity Devil and claims that he will set them free under a contract on the condition they give him the heart of Denji. Although Denji disagree and tries to argue he might double cross them Himeno refutes this claiming that contracts are too powerful for both devils or humans to break.

Denji faces off against the Eternity Devil.
However, Kobeni and Hirokazu crack under the pressure and try to murder Denji and give him to Eternity to escape the hotel. However, they are both stopped by Himeno and Aki. It's at that point Aki tries to use his sword to kill the Eternity Devil but Himeno dissuades him not to because he could die by using the sword. Eventually most of the group even Power votes that Denji should just scarifies himself. Seeing there is no other way out Denji reluctantly agrees but instead transforms into Chainsaw Man and opts to fight the devil instead. Although Denji tears away at the Eternity Devil's flesh it does no good as he needs to destroy his heart to actually kill him. Denji ends up getting heavily injured during the fight but consumes some of the Eternity Devil's blood and instantly heals. It's at this point Denji realizes that he can regenerate by drinking blood and opts to torture Eternity and drink his blood to heal himself when needed, comparing it too a perpetual motion machine. Denji would then hack, slash and torture the Eternity Devil for three days straight until the devil could no longer take the suffering anymore and reveals his heart and begs Denji to destroy it so he may die, to which he quickly obliges. The group exits the hotel having obtained a piece of the Gun Devil's flesh in tow. However, Denji passes out from exhaustion.
Himeno then decides to have a party at a local bar and grill as a way to celebrate their victory and get to know each other. During the party Denji asks if he can get the French kiss from Himeno but she tells him to wait until she is a bit drunker and she is embarrassed to do so while sober. Denji then introduces himself to everyone and reveals that he is only sixteen years old much to everyone's shock. Denji then gloats about how he is about to get his first kiss only for Makima to enter the restaurant to question what he meant by this. Fearing he might be “betraying” Makima, Denji attempts to take back what he said only for Himeno to question if they’re still going to kiss, leaving Denji conflicted.

Denji and Himeno form and alliance.
However suddenly, Himeno begins to kiss Denji just as she promised, although he initially enjoys it his pleasure soon turns to terror and disgust when Himeno accidents vomits in his mouth. Denji then spends the rest of the night in the bathroom vomiting out of disgust while being comforted by Hirokazu. Later Denji confides in Makima about how horrible his first kiss was. Makima feeling “sympathy” for him takes a Chupa Chups lollipop from her mouth and puts it in Denji’s to give him an indirect kiss to wash out the taste of vomit. A intoxicated Himeno then takes Denji to her house where he asks for water to which she gives it to him orally via another kiss. Himeno then offers to have sex with him to which Denji initially agrees to but opts out at the last minute and sleeps on the floor. The next morning Himeno and Denji drink coffee and the former questions if they did anything last night while she was drunk. Denji denies this claiming he wants to lose his virginity to Makima. Himeno then offers to make Denji a pact; she’ll help him get with Makima on the condition she helps him get with Aki.
Katana Man arc[]
Sometime later Himeno, Aki, Power and Denji meet up at a restaurant for lunch and hear gunshots in the distance but dismiss them and chalk them up to drum beats (when in all actuality it’s the Yakuza assassinating their allies). Suddenly a man in the next table over converses with them and complains about the quality of the restaurant’s ramen. He claims that it is probably because of his high culinary standard as his grandfather used to spoil him. He then reveals that his grandfather was none other than the Debt Collector the same one that Denji killed for betraying him. He then pulls out a gun shooting Denji, Aki and Himeno. He then transforms into Katana Devil revealing that he is a hybrid just like Denji. Aki manages to use his sword imbued with the power of the Curse Devil to take Samurai Sword down but he is easily able to recover with the help of his partner Akane Sawatari. Himeno then scarifies herself to save Aki and manages to revive Denji by pulling his pull cord before she dies. However Denji is promptly defeated by the two and captured but is thankfully rescued by Kobeni who apologizes for trying to kill him earlier.

Denji fights Kishibe.
Sometime later Denji and Power visit Aki at the hospital and read manga while arguing over who gets his apples. Later they are taken to a graveyard dedicated to all the devil hunters who died on duty. It is here they are introduced to senior devil hunter Kishibe by Makima who claims he will be training them. Kishibe then suddenly attacks Denji and Power by breaking their spines. He then gives them some blood to heal their injuries. The three then partake in brutal training with Kishibe who manages to gravely injure them multiple times before he calls it a day. Although both Denji and Power grow fearful of how they are being treated contemplate running away but they instead opt to defeat Kishibe by using their brains and forming a fool proof strategy. The next day when Kishibe goes to Denji and Power’s house the two attempt to sneak attack him but this fails miserably. Kishibe claims to be impressed with their efforts and leaves much to the two’s relief. However Kishibe lied and throws a knife at Denji’s head telling the two to “Never trust what the hunter says”.

Katana vs Chainsaw.
Later on Denji, Aki, and Power partake in the operation to capture Samurai Sword and Akane. However they are soon swarmed by an army of zombies just like the ones who attacked and killed Denji earlier. Power fights them off leaving Denji enough time to find Samurai Sword and his men. Samurai Sword actually tells Denji the he might surrender if he gives him a valid reason for killing his grandfather. Denji tries to tell him that he became a zombie but Samurai doesn’t believe him and even then tells him that even killing a zombie should make someone remorseful and calls out Denji for being “heartless”. The two hybrids then transform and clash in an epic battle. The two fight in top of a train and Samurai questions as to what drives Denji to keep fighting, to which he responds that he just fights to keep the life he has now. The two continue to fight and enter the inside of the train. Samurai manages to cut off both Denji’s arms but Denji manages to rush at him and catch him off-guard by cutting him in half with a chainsaw from his leg. Denji then manages to arrest Samurai even healing them both by using their devil triggers. In an act of humiliation he strips Samurai to his underwear and him and Aki kick him in the balls countless times as revenge for Himeno’s death. After the battle Denji and the gang head home and rest with Denji falling asleep. As he is sleeping he dreams of himself as a child and see’s a door in front of him. Suddenly Pochita’s voice echoes in his dream and tells Denji to never open the door no matter what.
Bomb Girl arc[]
Denji then wakes up from his peculiar dream in a cold sweat he looks over and sees both Power and Aki sleeping beside him. Power is awakened by Denji's shout which causes him to notice something odd. Power's horns have grown exponentially which confuses Denji causes him to question Power about this. However an irritated Power punches him in the chest so hard he hits the ceiling. Denji then calls Makima over to help determine why Power's horns grew. She then reveals that Power had consumed a excessive amount of blood when she fought the zombies the other day. This caused her to not only become more powerful but more aggressive. Makima then decides to take Power to get her excess blood drained and decides to assign him with a new partner for the time being. Denji is then introduced to the Shark Fiend, Beam who is weirdly loyal and subservient to Denji calling him "Master Chainsaw". Makima then offers to go on a date with Denji to which he excitedly and immediately accepts. The next day Denji waits outside of the theater and meets Makima who is wearing a beautiful casual dress which causes him to blush. The two then watch various movies until midnight to which they have various reactions and criticisms to. One movie in particular was so emotional that it causes both Denji and Makima to cry.
As they are leaving the theater Denji remembers Samurai Swords words about him being heartless which prompts him to ask if he truly has a heart. Makima presses her head against his heart and confirms that he does much to Denji's pleasure. The next day Denji walks down a street, happily thinking of the date, as Beam trails him silently underground. Noting a charity stand, Denji donates money as a sign of his newfound "heart", and is given a flower as thanks. He happily walks away, eating the flower, to the bewilderment of the charity girl.
As he walks, Denji thinks of Makima, and how her words were able to calm his pent-up concerns. He assures himself that he will use the wish she promised him to ask her out, and thinks how she will be the only girl he will ever be romantically interested in. Suddenly, it begins raining, and Denji runs for cover. Hiding in a telephone booth, Denji tries to wait out the storm. A young woman enters suddenly, surprising him. She apologizes and begins laughing, much to his confusion. Gradually, her laughter turns to tears, before saying that his face reminds her of her deceased dog. Denji suddenly begins gagging, and pulls the flower out of his throat, presenting it to the girl with a flourish. She thanks him and smiles, stunning him. As the rain stops, she invites him to visit her workplace: A cafe called Futamichi. The girl walks through some alleyways into work. As she puts on an apron, she sees Denji is already waiting for her at a table. The girl sits next to him, ordering a pair of coffees for the two of them, which Denji drinks with a disgusted grimace. She laughs and flirtatiously touches his shoulder, as a flustered Denji wonders whether she likes him. The girl introduces herself as Reze, and Denji responds with his name. Denji worriedly thinks of Makima, as he realizes that his feelings for Reze are growing.
Denji ends up becoming so enamored with Reze he goes to her diner everyday for a full week just to see her. Denji then notices Reze studying and the two have a discussion about school. Reze trys to teach Denji to read but he ends up comically writing the word "Balls" because it's the only word he knows how to spell. Denji claims that he wishes he could go to school with Reze to which she offers to take him there. The two sneak into a school at night and Reze claims that she is a little scared and holds Denji's hands. Denji then apologizes to Makima in his head claiming his body is moving on it's own. The two enter a classroom and Reze writes a math problem on the wall which Denji solves. Then, Reze writes the word "Big ass" to which Denji immediately knows how to spell, prompting Reze to jokingly call him a pervert. Denji then claims that he thinks he understands what school is about now. Reze then asks if he ever went to school to which Denji reveals that he never once did. Reze shows pity on him and claims that he should be enjoying his life and not hunting Devils for Public Saftey. Although, Denji argues that he has all he needs; a bed to sleep in and three meals a day, Reze points out that is the bear minimum for living in Japan. Reze then offers Denji to go swimming in the school's pool. Reze then suggests they go skinny dipping since there is no one else there but the two of them. Denji is reluctant to do so but he decides to anyway. He then takes a cannonball in the pool. Reze then decides to teach Denji how to swim. However it soon begins raining and the two head inside. Reze then poses Denji a philosophical question; which would he rather be the Town Mouse or the City Mouse. Denji chooses the City Mouse as he would want to be surrounded by commodities even if there is more present danger in the city. Reze the offers to take denji to a local festival to which Denji accepts as long as it's after work. Denji then compliments on how cute Reze is. Denji then realizes when he closes his eyes he see's both Makima and Reze, meaning he has feelings for the both of them.
The next day the two go to the festival and play games, eat treats and look at goldfish. Reze and Denji then go to a high peak to have a good veiw of the fireworks. Reze then tells Denji that she has been thinking. His life is terrible and thus she offers to run away with him. Although Denji likes Reze he is hesitant to accept he is doing well in his job and with his friends. Reze then surmises that he likes someone else. Suddenly Reze then kisses Denji as the fireworks go off. However the kiss soon turns into a nightmare as it's revealed that Reze bit off Denji's tounge. It's then that it's revealed that much like Katana Man, Reze was contracted to steal Denji's heart for the Gun Devil. Realizing he is in immediate danger attempts to pull his ripcord and transform but Reze cuts off his hand before he can. Denji then passes out from the blood loss. Before, Reze can rip out his heart, Denji is saved by Beam. Beam runs off with Denji in tow, but Reze transforms into Bomb Girl revealing herself to be a hybrid just like Denji. Eventually Beam reaches a Public Safety facility and warns Aki, Angel Devil and another hunter named Nomo. However Reze follows them there and goes on the attack. However, Reze kills all the Public Safety workers, but Denji, Beam, Aki and Angel escape in a car. However, Reze follows. Thankfully, Denji reawakens and transforms. Denji then comes to the startling realization that every woman he meets tries to murder him. He then becomes angered and laments that everyone wants his Chainsaw heart but not one girl wants his own heart. Reze however tries to argue that she truly did love Denji. Denji however points out that he is happy with Makima, Reze however points out that she is a witch and Denji is merely her pet. Denji then vows to stop Reze from killing more people. As they fight Denji is on the losing end. Reze points out that he needs to understand his powers more and apply himself. Ultimately no matter what Denji does he keeps getting pushed back. The fight gets so bad the lower half of Denji's body gets blown up. However before Reze can inflict anymore damage Aki saves him. However the Typhoon Devil soon arrives on the battlefield complicating things. Denji is soon brough back with the blood of a dead civilian. Beam then reveals that the Chainsaw Devil could use his own chains to swing around from building to building. Denji decides to implement that into his fighting style. He then has Beam transform into his Devil form and rides him like a horse. Using his newfound power he defeats the Typhoon Devil. With the Typhoon Devil out of the way Denji finally can fight Reze one on one.
Although Reze is tenacious, Denji cleverly uses his chains to try the two of them together and thrust them into the ocean. However, despite everything Reze has done, Denji chooses to save her. He explains that in spite of his wonderful life he would feel guilty about her get arrested by Public Safety. However, Reze claims that her feeling were entirely fabricated to gain his trust and that she lied about liking him earlier. Despite this, Denji asks Reze to runaway with him, pointing out that if her feeling were fake why did she teach him how to swim. Reze responds by breaking Denji's neck and telling his to wise up a little. Denji tells Reze he will be waiting at the cafe at noon. Denji then home and gathers his money and his things and prepares to leave with Reze. Thankfully for Denji, Reze's feeling were proven true and she accepts his offer. However before she could meet Denji she is attacked and incapacitated by Makima. Denji still waiting in the cafe assumes that Reze rejected his offer much to his sadness. Power then enters the cafe revealing herself to have been cured. Power asks Denji if she can have the flowers he got for Reze. However Denji eats them.
International Assassins arc[]
Sometime after the fight with Reze, Denji is sleeping and once again is dreaming about the door from earlier. In the dream, Pochita once again tells him not to open it. Denji then wakes up and see's meowy Infront of him much to Power's jealousy. Denji spots Aki sipping on cofee and it reminds him of Reze. Denji is still depressed over her betrayal and claims he may never feel joy or sadness for the rest of his life. However when he goes to work him, Aki and Power are offered by Makima to go to Enoshima for a vacation much to his delight. However a bunch of Public Safety workers barge into the room and inform Makima that there is a problem. Denji's fight with Reze ended up getting broadcasted on live television making him known to the wider world. Makima notes that government across the globe will want Denji as his status as a rare hybrid makes him valuable. Makima then rescinds her offer for the vacation and claims that in the days ahead multiple assassins from around the globe will be after him so he will need around the clock guarding and protection. As Denji is trying to sleep later that night he wonders why everyone wants to steal his heart and questions who Pochita truly is. Denji shows annoyance that he is being hunted and whishes he could go on vacation with Makima. Aki then see's that Denji is distressed and comforts him, telling him that all they have to do to go on the vacation with Makima is to defeat every assassin that comes after him. This gives Denji a newfound resolve to take down the assassins to hunt him.
The next day, Power and Denji are eating rice balls when Denji accidentally drops his on the ground. Just as he is about to pick it up one of his bodyguards Kukusabe chastises him for being disgusting and tells him to throw it away. Just to spite Kukusabe, Denji eats it anyway. Denji is then introduced to his other bodyguards, Tamoki and Hirofumi Yoshida. Makima explains that they are experts in personal security and can protect him if need be. Makima tells him that alongside those three, Aki, Angel and three other members of Public Safety will be protecting him. The gang stops for lunch at a burger joint and Power offers Denji her vegetables as she hates them. Just as Denji is prepared to take them Kukusabe demands Power eat them as they maintain a healthy body and mind. Denji then forces Power to eat them much to her anger. However a woman walks by Denji and stabs him with a nail imbued with the power of the Curse Devil. Howver Denji does not notice it. Denji and Power relax after a tiring day of patrolling. Denji starts to think that he is actually being used as bait to lure the assassins to which Aki confirms. Denji is angered by this until Aki reminds him it's for the sake of his vacation with Makima. Power shows frustration that Denji and Aki get rewards for their efforts while she does not. Power requests that she be able to suck a humans blood until they die to which Aki offers her Denji's blood much to his chagrin.
The next day while out on patrol Kobeni, Galgali and Angel are introduce Denji to "Kurose" who claims his unit was attacked and killed and he is the only survior. "Kurose" then notices Denji and questions if he is the famed Chainsaw Man. Denji confirms this and when "Kurose" attempts to shake his hand he refuses to let him as he is just "some dude". All of a sudden, Power uses Kobeni's car and accidentally runs over Denji and "Kurose" which kills the latter. However this reveals that "Kurose" was actually the eldest brother of the Three Brothers Gang a well known team of assassins from America. Later Denji and co decide to grab lunch in a shopping center when they are attacked by a army of dolls sent by the Russian assassins Santa Claus. Although Kurose managed to use his contract with the Stone Devil to turn several of them into stone to defeat them they are soon overwhelmed by even more of them. Seeing no choice the group runs up the stairs in the mall to get away from the dolls. However, Power and Denji attack them which reveals they are immune to the dolls transfiguration and can't be turned into ones themselves. As the gang clear out the remaining dolls they are confronted by none other than an infamous assassin from China, Quanxi. Quanxi manages to knock out Denji and couple of his guards. While Denji is out Quanxi fights Yoshida only for the young man to be beaten. Just as she is about to finish him she is confronted by her old friend Kishibe who holds to of her Fiend girlfriends Long and Pingsti hostage. Denji is then woken up and told by Kishibe to hold the restrain the Fiends while she talks to Quaxi. Although Kishibe offers to form and alliance with her to kill Makima, this goes south and Quanxi attacks again. Just then Long wakes up and attacks Denji. However Power saves him by taking her companion Pingsti hostage. Just then Beam arrives on the scene and saves Denji from Long. Denji and Beam decide to turn tail and run for it. Denji believes the best course of action would be to transform but Beam tells his to save his blood just in case. However, Denji is soon stabbed with the Curse Devil nail again which causes the Curse Devil to maul him and incapacitate him. Beam tries to help denji but he is knocked out by Santa's apprentice Tolka. Santa then makes a contract with the Hell Devil which transfers everyone in the mall to Hell.
Gun Devil arc[]
Special Division 4 recovers from their encounter in Hell, with Denji and Aki taking care of a now-traumatized Power. Denji notices Power’s change in behavior and Aki missing an arm, showing concern for both of his comrades. Makima later invites Denji to go on a trip with just the two of them, but he turns her down to help Power.
During this time, Denji bonds more with Aki and Power, while concluding that there are some things he is better off not knowing, dismissing the mysterious door in his dreams. As Power slowly begins to recover from her traumatic experience, the Hayakawa family take a trip to Hokkaido to pay respects for Aki’s deceased parents and brother. During that time, Denji and Power’s crazy antics manage to cheer Aki up as the three grow closer than before.
Back in Tokyo, the trio learn the truth about the Gun Devil from Makima, who reveals that the Devil was already defeated and confined between various countries. Denji and the others are shocked over this but the former still resolves to join Makima’s mission to fully destroy the Gun Devil. Outside, Aki realizes that even after they killed the Gun Devil, the body would merely be collected by the Japanese government, continuing the cycle of global hostilities whilst also meaning the Gun Devil can never truly die. Denji expresses confusion, believing that the Gun Devil must be mortal, or else Makima would not have promised him a wish in return for killing it.
Later at night, Aki learns from the Future Devil that in the distant future, he and Power will be killed by Denji, and that Pochita will make his return in the following time. Denji remains at Aki’s apartment with Power and Meowy while Aki and Angel visit Makima at a beach. Makima then takes full control of Aki and Angel, and battles 20% of the Gun Devil sent by the U.S. using various Devil contracts and powers.
Makima manages to defeat the Gun Devil and forces it to inhabit Aki’s body. She sends Aki back to his apartment to kill Denji and Power. After the attack ends, Denji receives a phone call from Makima that the Gun Devil has inhabited a corpse and is waiting outside the door. Hearing the sound of knocking, Denji checks on it, only to discover Aki, now transformed into the Gun Fiend. The Gun Fiend then begins attacking Denji and Power, destroying their apartment in the process.
Throughout their battle, Denji desperately begs Aki to snap out of it and tries to bring him back to his senses. Aki, however, visions his battle against Denji as a playful snowball fight, not realizing what really happened to him. However, none of Denji’s efforts work with Aki continuing to wreak havoc and chaos as he continues destroying the neighborhood around him.
Eventually, on the behalf of various civilians, Denji is left with no choice but to stop him. Denji manages to finish off Aki by impaling him with both of his chainsaws. Left broken and traumatized even further, Denji slumps down as he silently mourns over the loss of Aki Hayakawa.
Control Devil arc[]
Denji and Power are left alone with half of Aki’s money in a new apartment, spending it on food to cope with Aki’s demise. One night, Denji goes out on a walk but is unable to fully process the fact that he killed Aki as he vomits. Makima approaches him and decides to take him to her apartment. From there, Denji spends time with Makima and her seven dogs in an attempt to move on from Aki’s death.
However, Denji also wants to be treated like a dog when Makima reminds him that she owes him for killing the Gun Devil. Makima reveals that she invited Power earlier and tells Denji that she plans on killing her once he opens the front door. Denji complies with Makima’s orders despite Pochita’s voice telling him not to open the door. Upon doing so, Denji sees a terrified Power holding a birthday cake for his seventeenth birthday. Before either have the time to react, Power is immediately killed by Makima obliterating her entire body.
Denji freezes in shock, unable to speak as Makima closes the door. Still shaken, Denji wonders if this is a dream, to which Makima begins laughing hysterically as she starts to show her true colors as the Control Devil. It is then revealed that Makima had deliberately planned to provide him with a family unit and various sources of happiness, only to rip them away in order to break him. She also had looked into his past, discovering that Denji had repressed the truth that he killed his father.
By unlocking the truth, Makima gaslights Denji into believing he doesn’t deserve to be happy after causing the deaths of Aki and Power. This causes Denji to completely shut down as he enters a catatonic state. In addition, this ultimately breaks his contract with Pochita, allowing Makima to gain access to the Chainsaw Devil and his ability. The next day, Makima takes the despondent Denji with her in preparation for Pochita’s return.
Out of nowhere, Kishibe and his team launch a full-scale attack on Makima, refusing to let her accomplish her plans of conquering the world. Makima manages to bring out Pochita, who now reappears in his original form through taking control of Denji’s body. However, Pochita wants nothing to do with Makima’s plans and instead focuses on trying to bring Denji back to life. When Pochita is incapacitated by Makima, Power emerges from the Chainsaw Devil’s body thanks to Denji’s earlier action of drinking her blood. Despite being overwhelmed, Power’s memories of her bond with Denji causes her to resist Makima’s control. She escapes with Pochita to a nearby dumpster, allowing Denji to be revived much to Power’s relief.
Denji tells Power he doesn’t have the will to live anymore, to which Power rebuffs that claim. During her final moments before vanishing, Power makes him form a contract to find her again in Hell. With Power gone, Denji grieves over the loss of his new family, only to be approached by Kishibe. Kishibe questions if Denji is still himself and offers to help him escape from Makima. Denji shows Kishibe that he is still himself by tearfully throwing a peace sign back at him.
Hiding away with Kishibe and Kobeni, Denji admits that although he is physically fine, he is an emotional wreck, and is coming to terms with the fact he'd lived his entire life in subservience to others, never making any significant choices of his own. Kobeni makes Denji realize that a life filled with hardships and struggles is indeed normal just as he sees a broadcast of people celebrating over his actions as Chainsaw Man.
Seeing all the praise and love from so many people, Denji regains the will to live and resolves to still be Chainsaw Man out of a selfish desire to chase his dreams. He then plots with Kishibe on how to handle Makima and her army. Denji temporarily separates Pochita from himself as part of his plan to ambush Makima at the right time. Donning a Public Safety uniform and a chainsaw made of Power’s blood, Denji heads out to confront Makima for the final time at a graveyard. While Pochita goes all out against Makima and her brainwashed Hybrids, Denji blends in with the other brainwashed servants. Sometime afterward, Denji sneaks up behind Makima, who is resting during the aftermath of her battle with Pochita.
He then swiftly uses the blood-themed chainsaw to strike Makima down the chest. Makima begins to bleed, unable to recover as Denji explains how he was able to outsmart her using Pochita as a decoy. Kishibe pulls up behind Denji with a van, and Denji apologizes as he shreds Makima to pieces, collecting her remains in separate boxes. Arriving back at his apartment, Denji tells Kishibe that he is prepared to enact his final act to defeat Makima for good.
Once Kishibe leaves, Denji begins to cannibalize Makima’s remains until she is completely consumed. During that time, despite everything Makima had done to him, Denji realizes that he still likes her. After Makima’s demise, Denji meets with Kishibe and explains how he managed to kill off Makima for good. He also discovers that Makima had reincarnated into Nayuta, who is placed under his care by Kishibe. Once that is done, Kishibe leaves Denji with Nayuta.
Denji decides to adopt Nayuta and the two head home with their dogs and Meowy. Later that night, Denji has a dream with Pochita, who tells him to grant the Control Devil's dream by forming an equal relationship with her as a family. He then leaves Public Safety and starts attending high school while continuing to be Chainsaw Man. Denji also continues raising Nayuta following this point while trying to reveal his identity over time.
Academy Saga[]
Justice Devil Arc[]

Denji rescues a cat
After the battle, Denji saves a cat from falling off a building and becomes a media sensation. While a news broadcast covers his heroic actions, Denji tries to reveal his identity and phone number, only to be interrupted. Hirofumi Yoshida then approaches him, revealing over coffee that he’s been assigned to keep Denji’s identity secret. However, Denji remains determined to go public.

Denji tells Asa he's Chainsaw Man
Still hoping to get a girlfriend, Denji asks Yoshida to set him up with someone desperate for a boyfriend. Yoshida introduces him to Asa, believing she fits the bill. Unfortunately, Denji’s attempt to impress her fails, as Asa walks away unimpressed, seeing him as a loser. Later, when Yuko transforms and attacks Fourth East High School, Denji confronts her in an effort to reveal his identity. He swiftly defeats her, but before he can boast about being Chainsaw Man, Yoru calls out to challenge him. Denji is distracted by a girl he just rescued and tries to reveal his identity to her. At that moment, Yoshida intervenes using the Octopus Devil, pulling Denji to safety and reminding him that he won’t hesitate to use force. Denji is later shown asleep with Nayuta and their pets after the fight.
Dating Denji Arc[]

In March, Denji agrees to go on a date with Asa to the aquarium, unaware that she plans to turn him into a weapon. The Death Devil, under the name of "Fami" orchestrates the return of the Eternity Devil, trapping them and members of the Devil Hunter Club. She then turns the aquarium into a spear and defeats the Eternity Devil.

Denji and Asa watch a movie.
Afterward, Denji walks Asa home and asks for a second date, which she accepts. Suddenly, Yoru possesses Asa and tries to turn Denji into a weapon by touching his head and saying, “Denji Spinal Cord Sword.” Denji, confused, thinks it's a strange goodbye and walks off. The next day, Denji and Asa plan a movie marathon at his home due to ticket prices. Denji warns her to follow strict house rules or face deadly consequences. As they watch the movie, Denji warns Asa not to make out with him in front of his roommate. Asa denies any romantic interest and says she hates him. When she pushes Denji away, Yoru takes over and kisses him. Nayuta returns home, calls Yoru a thief, and turns her into a dog using a magical chain.
Denji begs Nayuta to revert Asa, but she lays out two conditions: daily ice cream and no more befriending Asa. Torn, Denji chooses to prioritize Nayuta. She alters Asa’s memories, making her believe Denji stood her up.
Falling Devil Arc[]
One night, Nayuta detects a “foul devil scent” and urges Denji to investigate. Denji, depressed and uninterested in being Chainsaw Man, says Nayuta hinders his chances with women. Nayuta counters that Chainsaw Man gets more love than any ordinary guy. Denji finds the Falling Devil and engages in battle. She recognizes him and asks for a truce, revealing her goal is to drop Asa into Hell. Denji refuses, wanting to protect Asa. She uses her powers to trigger his trauma over Aki and Power’s deaths, causing him to float in despair. Denji cuts into his own brain to resist and continues fighting.
After being torn apart, Denji is revived by an unknown person who offers their blood. Renewed, Denji chases after the Devil and rescues Asa, grabbing a railing mid-air. As Asa rants about her miserable life, Denji encourages her to think happy thoughts, halting their ascent. When she asks how he copes with life, Denji candidly says he wants to have sex, which disgusts her. They argue until they are dragged into Hell. After briefly clashing with the Justice Devil, Denji finds the Falling Devil blocking their escape. Just then, Chainsaw Man doppelganger slashes her and advises Denji to keep Asa safe until morning. Denji and Asa are then knocked back to Earth.
Wounded, Denji is revived by Asa's blood. As they flee, Asa points out a motorcycle. Denji hesitates to steal one from a woman, so she suggests another from a man. Unable to ride it, Asa transforms it into a “Super Chainsaw Motorcycle,” letting them cut through devil attacks as they escape. During the chase, debris blinds Denji, and they fall into the Justice Devil’s mouth. Nayuta saves them by forcing it to vomit them out. They return home to resume normal life.
Chainsaw Man Church Arc[]
Following the Falling Devil incident, Denji is captured by Yoshida. Yoshida detains him, informing him that Nayuta and the pets are also in custody. He tries to convince Denji to stop becoming Chainsaw Man by showing him riots sparked by his actions. Denji refuses and shouts to the crowd to kill Yoshida, only to stop when he hears Nayuta’s voice. Reunited with Nayuta, Denji seemingly agrees to Yoshida’s demands to protect her. Still, Denji is disillusioned—especially when he learns an imposter Chainsaw Man and Asa are taking credit for his feats. To distract him, Yoshida pairs Denji with Fumiko Mifune, a Public Safety agent assigned as his bodyguard. Fumiko enthusiastically sings at karaoke while Denji fends off thugs. However, Denji grows annoyed by her incompetence. Later, Miri Sugo—the Longsword Hybrid—approaches Denji and offers him a place in the Chainsaw Man Church. Though Denji initially declines, he changes his mind upon hearing there may be romantic opportunities.
At the church HQ, Denji is disturbed by its cult-like atmosphere, conspiracy theories, and forced marriages.Barem Bridge, the Flamethrower Hybrid, confronts Denji, threatening to ruin his life if he doesn’t become Chainsaw Man again. Frightened, Denji flees. Later, while spending time with Nayuta, he reflects on his future. She reassures him that she’ll always be there for him. The next day at an amusement park, Fumiko shares why she wants to protect Denji, despite Chainsaw Man failing to save her family. Barem appears and announces that the Hybrids have begun massacring civilians. Public Safety counters by deploying familiar foes like Katana Man and Quanxi. Denji tries to leave with Nayuta, but people around them begin transforming into Pseudo-Chainsaw zombies.
Barem reveals that is currently January of 1999 and that "Fami"’s true goal: to prevent the Death Devil from destroying humanity in the next six months. Nayuta confirms this and is targeted by the hybrids. Quanxi intervenes to protect them. As they flee, Nayuta forces Fumiko to leave and Denji pleads with her not to join the devils. Touched, Nayuta agrees and returns with Denji to their apartment—only to find it burned down, with Meowy and the dogs presumed dead. Enraged, Denji is tripped by Barem, who mocks him. Fumiko is taken hostage, and the other Hybrids restrain her. As Barem tries to strangle Nayuta and declares his hatred for Denji, Denji finally snaps. He transforms into Chainsaw Man and unleashes his rage, brutally defeating several Hybrids. After the fight, Denji collapses from his wounds. The crowd turns on him, attempting to kill him. Fumiko flees, leaving Nayuta to seemingly sacrifice herself to save him. Public Safety later recovers Denji’s unconscious body.
Aging Devil arc[]
Denji wakes up in a hospital and immediately questions Yoshida about Nayuta’s whereabouts. Yoshida admits he doesn’t know and explains that Denji’s refusal to follow Public Safety’s orders means he can no longer protect his normal life. Mid-conversation, Yoshida sedates Denji with a syringe, causing him to collapse. Denji is taken to the Tokyo Devil Detention Center, where he’s dismembered and stored in separate containers.
Meanwhile, Asa Mitaka and "Fami" infiltrate the facility to rescue him. Along the way, they recruit allies like the Devil Hunter Club trio, Katana Man, and the Nail Fiend. They eventually reach Denji’s fragmented body, reassemble him, and Asa finally confirms that Denji is indeed Chainsaw Man.
Before they can escape, Quanxi and Division 7 agent Takagi confront them. Quanxi backs down after seeing Denji’s severed head, which reminds her of a promise to Kishibe. Takagi is killed and consumed by his Pseudo-Chainsaw wife, allowing the group to escape with Denji. Denji later wakes up at "Fami"’s apartment, noticing Asa is missing an arm. Before he can collect his thoughts, Katana Man and Yoru punch him in the groin, demanding a rematch. Denji insists on finding Nayuta first. They return to his apartment only to find it destroyed. Though Yoru believes Nayuta is dead, Denji refuses to accept it and continues searching, despite being exhausted and starving. The group boards a bullet train toward a cheap sushi spot to feed Denji. On the way, Denji confides in Asa that he can’t return to a normal life. Asa vows to save him anyway. Samurai Sword, annoyed by their sentimentality, takes them to his brothel—only to discover it's been burned down in the Fire Devil’s attacks. Despite his focus on Nayuta, Denji finds his mind drifting toward sex. Yoru offers to cut off his genitals in an alley, and when Denji tries to back out, she forcefully kisses him without Asa’s consent. Shocked and confused, Denji is left alone afterward, unable to process what just happened.
At the sushi restaurant, Denji reflects on whether he truly felt happiness from Yoru’s earlier actions. Barem suddenly appears, comparing Asa to an animal and revealing he knows where Nayuta is. When Denji reacts violently, Barem tells him to do what he always does—save others. Barem reveals a disturbing truth about Pochita’s powers. Before Denji can respond, everyone is horrified to see Nayuta’s severed head on the conveyor belt. Denji snaps, transforms, and kills Barem. As he loses control, Pochita reemerges and fights Public Safety agents outside. During the battle, Pochita gains the upper hand against Yoru, only to be critically wounded by her Gun Gauntlet and Gun Goddess weapon. The Aging Devil arrives and traps Denji, Asa, and Yoru in a timeless world where no one can die. Asa regains consciousness and finds Denji comatose. Yoru, furious, blames Denji and strikes him.
When Denji wakes up, he breaks down and says he deserves to stay trapped. Yoru abruptly kisses him again, but Denji pushes her away, calling himself hopeless. Asa regains control and punches herself via Yoru, then shares her grief about her mother’s death and her desire to live. Moved, Denji vomits up the Snow Devil, bringing snow back into existence and remembering a snowy boat ride with Aki and Power. He continues to purge devils from his body—next is the Bitterness Devil, which prompts him to dive into a lake to clear his head. Underwater, he recalls memories of Reze, Nayuta, and his old pets. A vision of Pochita swims to him, and Denji realizes Pochita consumed devils to preserve Denji’s happy memories. Asa pulls him out of the water, and he regains his will to live. Realizing the devil head he vomited didn’t come from his own body, Denji concludes he’s linked to Pochita’s body in the real world. Determined, he devises a plan: starve himself until he can eat and refuel Pochita. With an axe forged from the Bitterness Devil’s tooth, Denji hacks open a tree-shaped human, drinks its blood, and pulls his cord to revive Pochita.
Denji keeps feeding and activating Pochita like a perpetual engine. After freeing him, Denji instructs him to vomit useful devils. Unexpectedly, Denji pukes up Yoshida. Shocked but adapting quickly, Yoshida proposes a temporary alliance. Denji reluctantly agrees, letting Yoshida and Yoru channel their powers through his body. With help from the Octopus Devil and Fumiko, they drag the Aging Devil back into its realm. Yoshida offers it a deal: send everyone back. Denji adds that since only he can stay behind, they’d be stuck with him forever. With no other choice, the Aging Devil agrees. Back in the real world, Denji and the others eat at a café, ignoring the chaos of the ongoing Pseudo-Chainsaw conflict.
Current Arc[]
In June, while eating, Denji recalls how "Asa" defeated Pochita by flattening Tokyo with the Statue of Liberty. When Denji notes something strange about her, Yoru reveals herself as the War Devil. Denji is stunned as Yoru gleefully recounts the deaths she caused using Asa’s body. Denji then awkwardly asks if it was Asa or Yoru who gave him the handjob.
Yoshida changes the topic, reminding them that the Death Devil is nearing and urges Yoru to weaponize Denji. Denji tries to shoot him but finds the gun unloaded. Yoru mocks humanity while wasting their dessert and dragging Denji outside to "have fun." She yanks his cord and forces his transformation.
Instead of carnage, Denji takes her to eat potstickers on a rooftop. When Denji asks about the Fire Devil, Yoru says he’ll appear once the Death Devil arrives, and the Control Devil might return—though not as the same person. Denji, remembering his promise to Power, tells Yoru she’s one of the few friends he has left. As he expresses joy, Yoru teasingly sits between his legs, prompting Denji to ask if she hates him.
To his surprise, Yoru admits both she and Asa like him romantically. Overwhelmed, Denji tears up. Yoru kisses him again and offers a deal: defeat the Death Devil, and they can have sex. If he fails, she’ll turn him into a weapon. Cautious of Yoru and unable to sleep, Denji cooks for them. After eating, Asa regains control to speak with Denji.
She points a finger gun at him and then her own head, Asa breaks down, admitting she wants to die to stop Yoru from committing an unknown atrocity but is too afraid. She begs Denji to kill her, saying Yoru’s plan to kill the Death Devil is too horrific to describe—worse than extinction.
Denji confused and nervous, attacks her with a chair in response, which she dodges. She accuses him of being a murderer, but he reminds her she asked him to do it. Asa breaks down in tears, overwhelmed by guilt and helplessness. Denji tells her that while he’s died many times, he’s never gotten used to it—and that she clearly doesn’t really want to die either. He promises to take on the Death Devil first, then deal with the aftermath.
Later, Asa and Denji briefly speak on the current situation where she decides to not think about negatives and lets Yoru regain control. The two rampage through ruined Tokyo on a stolen bike, killing Pseudo-Chainsaw People. However their fun is interrupted when the Fake Chainsaw Man blocks their path and causes them to crash. While criticizing Denji for not acting like a "Solitary Warrior from Hell" and approaching him with murderous intent, he responds that Fake Chainsaw Man got his backstory wrong, dodging his initial strikes and cutting off one of his arms.
After cryptically threatening Denji, the Falling Devil returns and manipulates gravity, causing civilians to fall sideways. Denji saves a woman, but the Fake Chainsaw Man criticizes him again for only helping women. Denji asks for help from Yoru, but she blasts off the woman’s hand for fun, revealing her cruelty. Denji, angered and disgusted, prepares to fight her, but Yoru surprises him by shooting the imposter instead, creating an opening. Denji cuts off the doppelgänger’s arm.
Fake Chainsaw Man accuses them of faking their argument to distract him. Denji however denies this and explains that Yoru is plain crazy. Before they can finish him, Pseudo-Chainsaw People shield the fake, fusing with him to regenerate his limbs. When the civilians revert to their human forms, one expresses relief at being saved by the "real" Chainsaw Man. But the fake brutally injures them, enraging Denji.
Denji struggles to counter without hurting civilians. One suggests targeting the heart. Denji sees the ripcord but hesitates when the imposter uses a civilian as a shield. This gives the fake a chance to punch Denji into a six story building. Yoru arrives and tells him he won’t win by sparing the civilians lives, though Denji argues that if he kills them, he'll have fewer fans and less to no people left that will like him. Yoru reminds him that even if he saves people, he’ll be forgotten, just like Asa was prior and then asks if she can help him kill Fake Chainsaw Man. Before Denji can make a decision, the Falling Devil lifts the building they are in to drop it on nearby civilians along with the Famine Devil.
However Yoru makes the building her property and transforms it into a sword as Denji catches her in the middle of a free fall. Yoru then leaves to fight the Falling Devil, while Denji is left to deal with the Fake Chainsaw Man that approaches him near a cross walk. Denji reluctant to harm innocent people, makes a plea to that he will spare the fake's live that if he sets the civilians in his body free. Fake Chainsaw man ignores Denji and lunges at him, which springs Denji into action as he proceeded to decapitate the fake. The fakes body makes one final attempt to strike Denji, so he vertically bisects his body, killing the fake and setting most of the civilians free at the cost of some casualties. Following Fake Chainsaw Man's death, the Fire Devil emerges from the corpse complimenting Denji's strength. Denji questioned if the Fire Devil would fight him next but they deny this and instead asks Denji if he remembers Fake Chainsaw Man's human face. Denji admits he does not so the Fire Devil goes on to explain that the man was a student at Denji's school that alongside his younger twin brother idolized, and that the pair saved them while it was mortally injured. Fire Devil further explains that it granted contracts with the twins and others that shared their vision of justice and was proud seeing the twins use their powers to save others.
However, They point out to Denji that on the day he fought the Cockroach Devil a year ago, and chose to save a cat instead of the lives of the elderly and a young man, that the young man who died was Fake Chainsaws twin. Realizing what this means, Denji stares at the decapitated in head in silence as the Fire Devil continues to criticize him for his betrayal and disregard for Fake Chainsaws twins and for the fact he cant even remember the faces. Denji asks if the Fire Devil wants him to apologize but they flatly deny it, and instead reveal they are going to make Denji choose between two options and urges him to not make the same mistake again.
Confused, Denji asks what mistake as building collapses behind him, he then spots Yoru trapped beneath the rubble. While claiming she hasn't lost yet, she asks and pleads to Denji to save her and responds accordingly while the Falling Devil confronts him. Not remembering the Falling Devil, Yoru angrily reminds him shes a devil and to save her first before fighting such a powerful devil. Falling Devil shockingly agrees with Yoru and opts to let Denji save her, explaining she is merely here to follow Death Devil's orders by plunging humanity into an abyss of terror. As she summons more buildings to drop on civilians Denji attempts to stop her, though he is caught in her gravitational guilt ability. With his Chainsaw's retracted, Falling notes that Denji hasn't changed at all since their last encounter and that his chainsaws are ineffective against her.
Denji is then shown an apparition of Fake Chainsaw Man in his human form, telling him that he should be all too aware of how it feels to lose a loved one. He continues angrily shaming Denji for being the cause of his brothers death as he splits apart and combusts into flames, causing a frightened Denji to apologize. In the real world his body floats upwards as he continues apologizing, though Asa manages to regain control of her body and rushes to grab hold of him.
