Desmond is the first ever verified customer of Smiling Friends Inc. and the titular supporting character of the first episode, Desmond's Big Day Out, in which the friends try to stop him from killing himself and find joy in life. He eventually succeeds in finding happiness after discovering he liked to kill bliblies, prompting him to start his own pest control company called "Desmond's Bliblie Control," now a charismatic businessman.

He is voiced by Mike Stoklasa.

Appearance

Depressed

Initially, Desmond appeared with a large, bulbous head with deeply etched wrinkles. His skin appeared pale and mottled with age spots, and he had droopy, heavy-lidded green eyes. His overall posture was slouched, and he held an oversized revolver against his temple at all times.

He was bald on top, with thin, wispy hair remaining on the sides, and his double chin blended into a thick neck. His torso is corpulent, with a noticeable potbelly pushing out from beneath a tight, short-sleeved brown polo shirt with a dark stripe that barely fits over his rotund frame. He wears a pair of light blue and white striped boxer shorts that hang loosely around his legs, and walks barefoot.

After finding his calling in life, his face became much cleaner, losing all of his wrinkles and blotches that he had previously. He now sports a full set of neat, brown hair combed to the side, and his eyebrows grew in. He now wears a formal, purple suit, matching pants, a white shirt and a yellow tie.

Personality

Desmond starts off with a deeply nihilistic view of the world, convinced that life is entirely meaningless after the abandonment of his wife and kids and the death of his dog. He is consistently depicted holding a revolver to his head, teetering on the brink of suicide. Desmond believed that the pleasures people seek are merely temporary escapes from life's harsh realities and eventual end, and even on his "big day out," he saw the activities he enjoyed as fleeting blips of happiness rather than truly fulfilling. Despite his bleak perspective, he was open, polite, and welcoming to the Smiling Friends, genuinely giving them a chance to bring some joy into his life, but generally spoke in a monotone and enthusiastic tone.

Everything changes for Desmond after he shoots and kill a bliblie. This act brings him an unexpected sense of fulfillment and helps him discover a new purpose. Embracing this newfound passion, he transforms into a confident and charismatic entrepreneur, founding his own pest control company and thriving in his work.
