The Diamond Cutters are a team of freedom fighters dedicated to opposing the Eggman Empire. The original version of the team was made up of mercenaries that fought during the Eggman War until they were mostly eliminated by Shadow Androids. Another version of the Diamond Cutters was eventually formed as a rapid-response team for the Restoration.
History[]
Original Diamond Cutters[]
The Diamond Cutters were a secret mercenary team dedicated to fighting against the Eggman Empire. It was comprised of Whisper the Wolf, Slinger the Ocelot, Smithy the Lion, Claire-Voyance the Howler Monkey and Mimic the Octopus, all of whom resided in a secret base in the middle of the Clove Sea. Each of them wore a mask, which allowed them to see through the others' point of view and communicate with each other and with Wisps. They also carried a specialized Wispon designed by Smithy and were partnered with a Wisp to use said Wispon.
During the beginning of the Eggman War, Mimic claimed to have found a way to disable an entire coastline of enemy Badniks by taking down one of Eggman's bases. Apparently, the whole team was required at the base to succeed, but Claire-Voyance asked Whisper to keep watch outside as she had a bad feeling about the mission. When the Diamond Cutters entered the facility, they became suspicious over how smoothly their mission was going and sent Mimic to scout for an ambush while they investigated a room full of stasis pods.
Unfortunately, they realised too late that they have lead into a trap when Shadow Androids suddenly emerged from the pods and overwhelmed the team, killing them. Outside the facility, Whisper witnessed the demise of her teammates through her mask and learned that Mimic had betrayed the Diamond Cutters to Eggman in order to save himself from the doctor's wrath. When Mimic came to eliminate her too, Whisper hid atop a tree branch and watched Mimic take her abandoned Wispon to trick Eggman into believing she had been disposed of rather than hunting her down. Although the loss of her friends traumatised Whisper, she continued to fight for the Diamond Cutters' cause and would eventually avenge them by imprisoning Mimic with the help of Tangle the Lemur.
Second Diamond Cutters[]
A second incarnation of the Diamond Cutters was eventually formed by Lanolin the Sheep as a way for the Restoration to quickly respond to any emergencies that might occur. This version of the team, consisting of Lanolin, Tangle, and Whisper, accompanied Sonic the Hedgehog in infiltrating Eggperial City to do some reconnaissance. However, their first mission hit a snag when the entire team fell through a portal and was sent to another plane of existence. They were unable to call their allies for assistance and could not interact or be seen by anyone around them, but after assuring themselves they can handle their predicament, the Diamond Cutters used their current situation to spy on Dr. Eggman. They managed to reach Eggperial City's control room where they overheard Eggman talk about how the city runs on unstable Chaos Energy, and learn that without his central computer keeping everything under control the energy would tear the city apart. Before the Diamond Cutters could inform their allies of this information, they began to materialise back into the physical plain which causes Lanolin and Whisper to be captured by Dr. Eggman. Luckily, Tangle evaded the villain as she was in a intangible state and worked together with Sonic to save her teammates while shutting down the city's central computer, leading to Eggperial City's destruction.
Back at Restoration HQ, a cat named Duo applied to join the Diamond Cutters when they decided to recruit new members to the team. Unbeknownst to them however, Duo was actually the shapeshifter Mimic who was hired by Clutch the Opossum to infiltrate and spy on the Restoration. The Diamond Cutters also recruited Silver the Hedgehog before one of their training sessions at Green Hill when he expressed concern in his abilities. During their training, Duo tripped Silver as he was using his ESP to levitate a large pile of rocks over to his teammates inside a ravine. This causes the levitating rocks to fall towards them as a giant Badnik suddenly breaks into the ravine and floods it with water. Tangle was able to swing Whisper and Lanolin out of harms way before they got to higher ground while Silver fell into the giant Badnik's jaws and tries to have Duo pull him to safety, only for the cat to do nothing as he is almost crushed between its teeth. Silver managed to break free from inside the Badnik when the girls arrived just in time to damage it.
