~ Description from the official website. |
Diluc Ragnvindr was born into the Ragnvindr Clan, an ancient and noble family based in Mondstadt. Mondstadt was a realm under the purview of Barbatos, the Anemo Archon and God of Freedom, and is one of the seven nations on the continent of Teyvat. Though Barbatos, who placed supreme importance on the freedom of his people, was an absentee ruler, Mondstadt still flourished as a peaceful and carefree realm under the governance of the valorous Knights of Favonius. The Ragnvindr Clan notably traced its lineage to a noble warrior who aided Barbatos in defeating tyrannical aristocrats who controlled the nation a thousand years ago.
Diluc Ragnvindr is the son of Crepus Ragnvindr, the late owner of Dawn Winery. The bulk of Mondstadt's economy comes from its wine industry, of which Dawn Winery is by far the most successful business. Dawn Winery products, particularly "dandelion wine," are exceptionally popular all over Teyvat. As a result, the Ragnvindr Clan is exceedingly wealthy and holds unrivalled political influence in its home nation. The family never used its wealth and power poorly however, instead only using it for the betterment of Mondstadt. Diluc was raised in the Dawn Winery Manor, his father's personal residence far from the capital.
When Diluc was around twelve, his father adopted a boy named Kaeya Alberich. Kaeya's father had abandoned him on the roadside of Dawn Winery, and so Crepus decided to take the boy in. Diluc and Kaeya quickly grew close, becoming best friends as well as brothers. Crepus, who had failed to become a member of the Knights of Favonius during his youth, hoped that Diluc would be able to succeed where he had failed and become a protector of Mondstadt. Ragnvindr trained rigorously to fulfil his father's expectations, honing his body and learning how to wield a sword. Eventually, Diluc's ambition was recognized by the gods and he was gifted a Pyro vision that allowed him to channel Pyro elemental energy.
During a banquet hosted at the manor, Diluc was forbidden from drinking by his father. Choosing to disobey Crepus, Diluc convinced Kaeya to help him sneak into the wine cellar and steal some wine. Adelinde, the head housemaid, caught them in the act and reported to their father. Crepus was furious when he found out and gave each of the boys a separate punishment. He tasked Diluc with tending to all of the barrels that needed cleaning in the wine cellar. There were over a dozen large barrels for Diluc to complete, but Adelinde and Kaeya helped to finish the job for him.
Alongside his brother Kaeya, Diluc passed the entry trials and joined the ranks of the Knight of Favonius at an exceptionally young age. Diluc quickly gained notoriety as a paragon of the Knights, even earning the praise of Grand Master Varka who considered him the pride of the knights. Before long, he was promoted to Cavalry Captain and placed in charge of the cavalry of the Knights of Favonius, being the youngest person to achieve the rank in history. He was also somewhat close with Jean Gunnhildr, a subordinate Knight who looked up to him a great deal.
After the celebration of Diluc's 18th birthday, he and Crepus left in a wagon, which was, unbeknownst to them, targeted with a Fatui device. However, Ursa the Drake was attracted to the scene by the Fatui device and subsequently attacked the convoy. As the monster slaughtered many people, Crepus used a Delusion to suppress the monster in order to protect Diluc. However, the delusion's power backfired on him, and Diluc was forced to kill his father to end his suffering.
The corrupt inspector, Eroch then attempted to cover up Crepus's death as an unfortunate accident in order to avoid "tarnishing" the reputation of the knights. Furious, Diluc resigned as a knight and left the country. He went on a 3 year long sabbatical wherein he dismantled many Fatui strongholds and eventually had to be chased out of Shneznaya by the Fatui Harbingers. As the heir to his father's estate, Diluc became the owner of the Dawn Winery upon his return to Mondstadt. At the same time, he continues to protect the city as the mysterious vigilante known as the "Darknight Hero".
Personality[]
Kaeya calls himself and Diluc "anti-heroes with attitude problems". He decided to take matters into his own hands by becoming, to his dismay and embarrassment, the "Darknight Hero" to protect Mondstadt's people.
Diluc was once an ideal young man, dedicated to his work with Knights of Favonius. After his father's untimely demise as a result of using a Delusion, along with Inspector Eroch ordering Diluc to cover up the incident, his faith in the Knights shattered and he left the organization. Even after Eroch was purged from the Knights for being a traitor, he still holds resentment towards them. He claims that the Knights take too long to get the job done, although he still appreciates those who put the effort in, such as Lisa and Jean.
When he was a member of the Knights, he adored his father, Crepus. Being praised by his father made him happier than fame and anything else, and Crepus told Diluc to be faithful in his duties. After his father's death, he has been suppressing himself. Despite coming off as cynical and disinterested, he is gentle, tender, and modest nature. In his childhood, Diluc had a lighthearted and happy demeanor, rather to the contrary of him now.
Despite being the owner of Mondstadt's largest wine industry, Diluc is not fond of alcohol, as he does not like its taste and that it clouds his mind when he tries to work. He prefers non-alcoholic drinks such as grape juice and apple cider, which he had ordered developed upon his return to Mondstadt. This does not appear to be well known by many, however, most likely as a result of him being the current owner of Mondstadt's largest wine producer. He even expresses surprise when he learns that Diona also loathes alcohol, having initially believed that he was the only bartender in Mondstadt that did not like alcohol. He also tends to part with the possessions he no longer needs, such as his father's private residence.

Diluc is well honed in the use of his Vision, using it to infuse his weapons with powerful flames and conjure giant waves of Pyro energy.
