Dmitri was formerly a Russian prison guard stationed at Kamchatka who assists an imprisoned Jim Hopper in finding a means of escape, until he himself is imprisoned for his treason and is forced to work with Hopper and his friends Joyce Byers and Murray Bauman to defeat the Soviet Union.
He is portrayed by Tom Wlaschiha.
Dmitri is approximately 40 years of age. At some point, he married and had a son named Mikhail. His uniform indicates that he is a member of the Soviet Ministry of Internal Affairs, and holds the rank of "starshina", a senior enlisted man roughly the equivalent of a sergeant major in the U.S. Army.
Dmitri is described as "smart and charming" and has a dry sense of humor. Despite being a prison guard, Dmitri does not seem to be entirely loyal to his government as he was willing to help Jim Hopper escape from prison in exchange for money. However, Dmitri does seem to be loyal to his country's people and his family as evident when he confronted Yuri Ismaylov by explaining how Vecna and the monsters from the Upside Down would kill their loved ones if the they did not stop them. In addition, Dmitri does have a positive streak and is willing to take opportunities and risks, showing he is a brave man. He also has a sense of honor as he was impressed with Hopper's determination and kept his promises with him while calling Yuri out for losing his sense of dignity.
