Dmitri Cimber is a major protagonist in the 2018 horror film The First Purge and the overarching protagonist for the rest of the series. He is an ex drug lord that was previously the most powerful one on Staten Island, but decides to change for the better when the NFFA start murdering everyone in his neighbourhood during the Purge, going as far as to kill several of their members to protect innocent people and founding the Anti-Purge Resistance to keep people safe as long as the Purge is continuing.
He was portrayed by Y'lan Noel, who also portrayed Troy Marshall in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Biography[]
Before the very first Purge began, Dmitri was a drug lord that ruled the criminal underground of Staten Island ruthlessly and efficiently, gaining the loyalty of many of his members as he did so. Unbeknownst to Dmitri, Capital A, a member of his gang resented him deeply and waited for an opportunity to usurp his position for himself. Dmitri also dated a woman named Nya before they eventually broke up for an unknown reason, but he still cared about her regardless of their past.
When the Purge was announced, Dmitri let his men know that they were not going to kill anyone during it and they should just sit it out so he can protect his stash of drugs that he believed rivals would try and steal. Capital A was annoyed at this, as he wanted to use the Purge as an opportunity to go on a killing spree but Dmitri pinned him to the ground and threatened to kill him if he decided to use the Purge for that purpose, intimidating Capital A into not going along with it. When the Purge finally started, Dmitri was enjoying the company of two prostitutes brought to him by 7&7, but it turns out that they were assassins hired by Capital A to murder Dmitri. Despite this, Dmitri manages to overpower the two of them and interrogates them for information. He learns that Capital A sent them to assassinate him and so, takes his men and the assassins to Capital A's location to take revenge.
Capital A is momentarily satisfied upon seeing the assassins, believing Dmitri to have been successfully killed, but Dmitri and his employees appear from the darkness to ambush Capital A and his gang. Dmitri then monologues to Capital A about how he cannot use the Purge to murder him, before putting a bullet through his head, ordering the deaths of Capital A's loyalists and telling his gang to let the assassins walk, but to remember to never step foot on the island again. Dmitri and 7&7 then get in a car crash and notice a group of thugs murdering people. Thinking quickly, Dmitri gets out of the car, snaps one of their necks and then uses their gun to kill the remaining members. After this, Dmitri decides that he and his gang need to arm up and protect the innocent as he believes the government wont help them and they need to take matters into their own hands. subsequently saving a group of survivors from a squad of KKK members. Dmitri and his gang are ambushed by drones with machine guns on them. Dmitri thinks fast and gets underneath the car for cover, but everyone else is either killed or nearly dead. After the drones back off, Dmitri gets a call from Nya that a group of NFFA soldiers are inside her apartment block and killing everyone. Upon hearing this, Dmitri proceeds to arm himself, tells Nya to stay strong and gives 7&7 one last fist bump before going off to save as many people as he can.
Upon arriving at the apartment block, Dmitri decides to cut the power so he can use stealth to take down the NFFA members using a knife. Dmitri then gets into a brawl with three of them in a stairwell, killing one with an assault rifle before fist fighting the other two, eventually killing one with an assault rifle and strangling the other one. After shutting off the power, Dmitri slits the throat of one of the terrorists, stabs another one in the throat and then kills some of them with an assault rifle after ambushing them He then makes his way towards Nya's room, saving her and Isaiah from one of the soldiers about to shoot the two of them in the process. Dmitri then comes up with the idea to set a trap for the rest of the soldiers using the C4 that he brought with him, asking the others to hide inside the closet inside Nya's room but Nya insisted on helping him, which he agreed to. The NFFA eventually find them and attempt to kill them all with an RPG, before Skeletor shows up and kills some of their members, distracting them long enough for Dmitri to shoot the C4 and kill everyone, despite getting shot in the process. Dmitri then shields himself and Nya from the incendiary by using a mattress and the Purge officially ends. The survivors then assist Dmitri with movement after getting shot and he is thanked by everyone in his neighbourhood for saving their lives. Dmitri then decides to create the Anti-Purge Resistance to keep people safe from the Purge until it eventually ends, taking in several members to make it possible and inspiring others to take a stand themselves and not allow themselves to be controlled by their oppressive government, leading to multiple other Anti-Purge squads being created throughout the series to protect the innocent themselves.
Personality[]
Dmitri was a calm and ruthless man that wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty in order to get what he wanted, building up the biggest drug empire on the island and being respected by many people as a result. Despite this, he still had a good side to him, shown with his desire to protect those he loves and deciding that he and his gang need to protect innocent people from the government because no one else will do it. He also showed fierce determination, going as far as to take on a whole group of military trained terrorists at the end of the movie single handedly in order to protect his loved ones and attempting to convince Nya to get to safety so he can burden killing the rest of the soldiers by himself despite the odds already being against him.
