Kent Nelson, also known as Doctor Fate, is one of the three deuteragonists (alongside Hawkman and Adrianna Tomaz) of the 2022 DC Extended Universe film Black Adam.
He was a kind academic and one of the founding members of the Justice Society with his magical abilities and the Helmet of Fate, he used to transform into the powerful mystical sorcerer known as Doctor Fate. Traveling to Kahndaq with the team to stop Black Adam, Doctor Fate would speak with him on the potential fate that was for the country. When Sabbac attempted to take control and release the legions of Hell, Fate sacrificed himself and encouraged Black Adam to become Kahndaq's hero.
He was portrayed by the legendary Pierce Brosnan, who also played James Bond in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, Thomas Crown in The Thomas Crown Affair, and Chiron in Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

Kent Nelson was born around the 1920s to unnamed parents in England, and during the height of World War II, knew of the fates that held of the soldiers that were sent off.
Becoming Doctor Fate[]
At some point in his adulthood, Nelson encountered the mystical being Nabu, who gave him the Helmet of Fate, granting him magical abilities and the title "Doctor Fate". Staying with Nabu and the Lords of Order, Kent spent his time learning spells and becoming familiar with the helmet allowing him to see potential futures. After his training, Doctor Fate protected the world from numerous demons, and later married a woman named Inza. At some point during his heroics, Fate met the heroes Hawkman and Atom Smasher, and co-founded the Justice Society to stop threats. However, the group broke ways for unknown reasons, and Kent returned to the order to learn how to not rely on the helmet.

Kent Nelson is a kind man. Despite the nature of his work in combatting the world's evils, he has not let them jade him as when conversing with Teth-Adam, Nelson described the world as "glorious". Doctor Fate is able to forgo all emotion to envision future outcomes, conjure terrifying illusions and bewitch his opponents with power that outmatches even the powers of the gods.

- Precognition: By wearing the helmet, Nelson could see all potential futures, allowing him to predict what was coming before it did, and if necessary, give him a way to avert it.

- Pierce Brosnan was inspired to take the role from seeing Benedict Cumberbatch's performance as Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- There was a post-credits scene that hinted Doctor Fate's return, but it was scrapped.
- Dwayne Johnson has stated that the character will return in some capacity. However due to DCEU's reboot by James Gunn, this is likely to not happen.
