Doctor Ovi Kintobor is the overarching protagonist of the Fleetway Editions Sonic the Comic series.
He once was a kind human scientist on Mobius who wanted to rid all evil on Mobius, until he transformed into the evil Dr. Robotnik during a laboratory accident. Before that, he was a good friend of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Biography[]
Sonic the Comic[]
Doctor Ovi Kintobor was a kindly scientist who somehow came to Mobius from Earth and sought to rid the world of evil. He built an underground laboratory in Emerald Hill Zone where he constructed a machine called Retro-Orbital Chaos Compressor (or ROCC) using Golden Rings to gradually draw in and gather all the planet's negative energy so he could safely contain it by utilizing six Chaos Emeralds he obtained. Kintobor soon befriended a speedy brown hedgehog named Sonic and made him a pair of Power Sneakers that enabled him to move so fast that he broke the sound barrier, turning him blue in the process. With Sonic's help, Kintobor tried to acquire a Grey Emerald to stabilise the ROCC's energy transferral, but then discovered an alternative method of achieving this when Sonic failed to obtain the emerald. Before working on this method however, Ovi opted to have some lunch and only found a rotten egg that had been in the fridge for six months. Kintobor returned to the ROCC with rotten egg in hand when he accidentally tripped on a wire while looking for some salt and onto the machine's control panel, sending a surge of energy through him and the egg. Afterwards, Sonic discovered Ovi Kintobor had been transformed into the tyrannical Doctor Ivo Robotnik.
The accident caused an explosion that scattered the Golden Rings used in the ROCC's construction, with one of the Rings having an imprint of Ovi Kintobor's mind burned on it. The Ring was found by Sonic and used to create a Kintobor AI to assist him and the Freedom Fighters battle against Robotnik's rule of Mobius.
Appearence[]
Kintobor's appearence is similar to his Robotnik form, though he was a lean and slick man as apposed to obese, he even had an oval shaped bald head, he also had a long strip of ginger hair behind his head, resembling his moustache. For attire, he wore a white labcoat and white gloves and silver pince-nez sunglasses.
Personality[]
Kintobor was a very kind and nice benevolent, albeit clumsy scientist, helping people in need and saving sick and poisoned animals, and using his talents to benefit others rather than himself. After his transformation into Robotnik, he became a monstrous tyrant that only cared about himself, and would do anything to destroy Sonic the Hedgehog, even going to extreme lengths to fulfill his dream to conquering Mobius for himself.

Trivia[]
- His name is Robotnik spelled backwards.
- While the Western designs of Dr. Robotnik don't often have white gloves and especially glasses, Kintobor in Sonic the Comic is seen wearing pince-nez sunglasses and white gloves likely nodding the ones from his original Japanese Eggman design, however he lost the said attire when he transformed into Robotnik. Despite this, Robotnik is however seen wearing his white gloves in the first issue of Sonic the Comic with the likes of the US promotional comic, until they suddenly vanished in the second issue.
- Its unknown what region he comes from on Earth, though its possible he is an American or British citizen, hence he appears to be an anglophone. London and England are also shown in Sonic the Comic when Earth makes an appearence which he may have come from before he came to Mobius.
- Despite this backstory of Dr. Eggman being well recieved by some fans, claiming it makes him a more tragic character, and explaining as to why Sonic never kills him, thinking he still wants to believe he can one day get his friend back, the early North American Sonic canon was slowly abandoned throughout the 1990s. This culminated in the Sonic series' 10th anniversary, in 2001, with the release of Sonic Adventure 2, which scrapped the Kintobor backstory entirely. No mention of Dr. Kintobor and the canon he came from has been made ever since.
- Dr. Robotnik's appearance in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictutes is a bit similar to Kintobor, as both are lean and slick men along with their ovalish heads.
